Administrators gav240z Posted May 17, 2011 Administrators Posted May 17, 2011 Hi Guys, Just caught this on Youtube and thought you might also be interested: I particularly liked the restoration process. I'm not a huge fan of building so many replica's of them out of the poor old girls, but if I could own 1 of these I wouldn't say no . Quote
Scoota G Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 That process is what was going to happen to the one i'm working on currently as well as the fitting of an RB26 but as soon as it was veiwed the owner said it stays as is. Eleanor Kits on ebay are $5000. Quote
RBZ 260 Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 nice find Gav. yeah 'im not sure if i could do that to a fastback (not even to a notchback for that matter) well i wouldn't pay for the kit. i rather have it looking stockish. its a phase due to the movie but its wearing off in mustang community. And RB26DETT in mustang conversion AKA Tokyo Drift Mustang is one of most hated Mustangs within Mustang community in OZ. They believe it was only a movie stunt and the car doesn't exist Basicaly if aint a BIG Ford V8 with some monster Holley carby on top or supercharger it aint a mustang and its not worth anything. Words like 6Cyl or Turbo shouldn't be mentioned alone. in one sentence u get death by stoning. Ive been contemplating fitting a Barra 4L turbo in mine or Late 5l EFi with twin turbo or late Boss 260 290 motor. all fairly unpopular mods. since possible future sale of my car and not restricting it to younger peeps with no money got to go old school some big Dino V8 351 W or C or maybe a Boss 302 spec engine with " Some HUGE" holley carb and few shiny ford racing bits so they can see their reflection in it. it will cost me more double to rebuild an old clunker to get 3/4 of the Hp that I could get out of a turbo'd engine. Maybe once i sell it and get my fastback that i wont sell and build it the way i want it. Quote
Scoota G Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Here's a wedding car pair on ebay for hire. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Eleanor-Mustang-Shelby-GT-500-E-Wedding-Car-Joyride-/270748108027?pt=AU_All_Services&hash=item3f09d844fb And this website was just one of the best i found for info. http://www.mustangmonthly.com/howtoguide/index.html Some or the rust repair step by steps are really cool. RBZ 260 Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 cheers Scoota thank god i don't have to do any rust repair on mine. been done full rotiserie and blast job. just strip the paint (don't like the colour/finish currently on) realign few panels that im not happy with and new coat of paint. Quote
sexual_sushi Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 I think in one of the seasons of 'Rides' there was an episode on a shop in America that makes 800+hp Eleanors. Was a pretty good episode form memory. Quote
Six_Shooter Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 My GF's '65 will not (likely) have a Ford engine in it, if it does get a Ford engine, only the block will be Ford, the Head will be from a different brand. Yes, I said head, as in singular. leaning towards a turbo 4 cyl currently. I love the Tokyo Drift Mustang, the fact that the engine was an import engine in a domestic car (for me), is perfect. For all those same people that scoff at the Tokyo Drift Mustang, 99% of them would say it would be fine to drop a domestic (Ford/Chev/Dodge) into an import chassis. Quote
gilltech Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Yeah I've got a '67 FB A-code GT too, I've restored but with Shelby-style fibreglass scoops etc. The Eleanors were nice while they lasted & I did like them at the time but am rather "ho hum, not another one" & over it by now, personally I'm not a fan of the colour scheme. Mr Camouflage Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 And RB26DETT in mustang conversion AKA Tokyo Drift Mustang is one of most hated Mustangs within Mustang community in OZ. They believe it was only a movie stunt and the car doesn't exist Oh no, it was real, but apparently regular V8 powered mustangs were used for the drifting scenes, if you can believe wikipedia. They should be more angry that they destroyed 5 mustangs in making the movie. I think the RB powered one was the only one that didn't get destroyed. Although I can understand the skepticism, check out this Movie "R34 GTR" Quote
gilltech Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Well, perhaps a fading fad, but I will concede that the Nick Cage Gone etc movie (which was a re-make) certainly lifted the profile of Mustangs & the 67/68 fastback in particular; once upon a time convertibles were the most expensive body style, but now it's the fastbacks. The original GISS movie was made in the 70's & used a '71 Mustang fastback; & has a far longer chase scene than the Nick Cage re-make one. Worth watching for the pre-special effects chase & crash scenes. Quote

I loved your Shelly the colour - perfect, it was/is a credit to you - shame it is nolonger in NZ but I guess on the plus side for the Ozzies is it Australia now. Quote
nizm0zed Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 as a serious question, if it were suitably muffled, and you didnt open the bonnet for a decent period of time, how many in the bogan v8 community would know there was something different under the bonnet? Seems like if you could get past that hurdle, you could get the car known as good looking, nice sounds, killer performance ect ect, before opening it all up. Would be kinda funny to see how many would change their minds about it once they knew though.... Quote
