I've always been looking forward to wearing an eye patch ;) Should give me a new aura :P

Nah, I'm only kidding, the docs have tried flushing it out, my mum flushed my eye aswell with a syringe and salt water...

The docs reckon they couldn't see anything... (They used their special eye apparatus/light+magnifying glass thingy majigg...)

Also, the darn fibreglass filler didn't harden  >:( Now I gotta scoop it all up with a plastic knife, make a new mix with 3times more hardener just to be sure and apply that....

Fiberglass / epoxy resins that require 50/50 mix can be difficult in really hot or cold environment.

Before you get mad and scrape all the goop out and start again, try brushing a very thin layer of only the hardner over the surface. Wait 24 hours and see if it works.

I have found that sometimes it is successful. Also don't do it late in the evening and leave it over night in the garage. Too cold at night and it doesn't 'go off'.

For painting it black, I have experimented with a spray can of paint for outdoor plastic furniture over fiberglass parts. First use the clear primer then the black coat. Product is called Plasticote and I got it at Bunnings for $15 a can. I was surprised how good it worked out for a cheap alternative. If you want to try it, use it on the inside of the dash and see what results you get first. Sprays on glossy but drys to a matt finish. For 30 bucks, I thought it was ok.

Good luck.

I had that same prob once with the resin not going off due to it being too cold.

Standing there with a hairdryer for 20 minutes seemed to work a treat.

Dont cook it too quick though, it sets off the reaction too fast and it expands/warps/cracks ect.

I wouldn't reccomend doing that with anything structural though, just saying.

I very briefly used my heatgun for about 5mins and it didn't seem to do anything....

I purchased a 2Pac primer & filler in a can from super cheap - thats the gold color output on the dash as you can see in the pics.

For black, I purchased Satin Black Vinyl paint from super cheaps aswell.... Its from 3M so it should be ok... My old man's got a compressor with all the required painting tools, but I just don't have the time atm to go that far (And I'm pretty certain using Viponds Tautflexx would've been the best option looking at RBZ260's result)....

But If I don't like the color, I'll just rescrape the whole lot and get plasticote :D

If your doing anymore filing or sanding of glass, get a parrot.  It won't help with the sanding, but looks good with the eye patch.

I've cut my eye (a 3mm cut in the cornea) and it hurts like heck for a couple of days.

But really get a parrot and teach it to say "fully sick bro'".

Hey bro,

I decided to sell the dash I restored; my dad and also another mate of mine recommended I use the one I purchased off Lurch with the dash cap on instead.

A guard? Really? It couldn't have been me bro, my car's body is completely, 110% rust free since 3 months ago :P

Maybe its another Sam with another 2+2... I wanna meet him now

Yeah I thought so!. He said he's repairing a car for a guy called Sam and he's from meadow heights..which is  near you. I mentioned that your cars painted and he said "it was all done but he was driving and the wheel fell off..long story" I didnt ask any more.

Wonder who it is?? not many down our side of town.

I've seen a burgundy 2+2 parked in the street opposite the church at Meadow Heights... Maybe its his?

Do you know what natio the guy was???

Posted

Not sure. The panel beater was like middle eastern and because its meadow most likely Turk, lebanese, syrian or something lol.

hehehe thanx Peter and Benny :D

My auto-elec put them on 2 weeks ago... BEFORE EVEN INSTALLING THE SPEAKERS!!! LOL :P

I'm just wondering though Peter; Is it worthwhile turbocharging the original L26 motor? Even if it runs on 7psi or something.

Also, do you know a mechanic named Vince who works at Nismo???
