Agno Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Hey chaps, Going to Winton on the weekend, does anyone have a decent idea what times I should be aiming for on the long track? My car is stock engine, triple 40s with coilovoers and 4 pot front brakes. I was thinking a 1:45 is an ambitious but doable time in the dry with a few things going my way... Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted May 29, 2013 Moderators Posted May 29, 2013 What tyres? Semi's or street? I was thinking anything below 1:40's is good. Quote
Riceburner Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Yeah 1.45's is a wet track time, on semi's with triple 40's. Quote

Datsun 1200 coupe A12 turbo 160 Hp Sandown 1.24 Philip Island 1.49 Winton 1.33 (mate driving) I'd love to see a bit more info and pics on the 1200, it's awesome! Sprint at Sandown with the WRX club yesterday, did a PB 1:18.88. Finally cracked the 18's! Wow, Thats darn quick Sinsha. What made the difference? Quote
redrbzed Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Hi Gareth, Making the car quieter made the difference. The way this works is that I don't get sent home after 2 runs for being too loud! Which means more laps and better times. cheers, Sinisha Quote
Agno Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 1:47.7 at Winton today. As previously mentioned it's got triple 40s, coilovers, discs all 'round and 4 pot fronts on street tyres, 94rwkw. Quote
luvemfast Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 Don't feel you need to justify anything. That's a good time. I think my best is 1:46 I've given up trying to catch the likes of Gareth. Lol But did you have fun? Quote
Agno Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 I had a ball Simon, although I do have to say I'm not 100% happy with the time. I'll do a bit more of a write up in my build thread when I get a chance (pretty interesting weekend even excluding the track day lol), but with more practise and some minor suspension tweaks I could definitely see myself heading for the 1:45s. Moderators Zedman240® Posted June 3, 2013 Moderators Posted June 3, 2013 Alex, you have to invest in a good set of tyres; street tyres just won't cut it at all... plus you screw them up after a good day of running. Quote
luvemfast Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Alex, you have to invest in a good set of tyres; street tyres just won't cut it at all... Semi slicks are street tyres Quote
Riceburner Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Many Z's turn out at winton alex? 1.47 is a good time considering you only had street tyres! Alex, you have to invest in a good set of tyres; street tyres just won't cut it at all... plus you screw them up after a good day of running. +1. I ran with street tyres at the 07 nationals, they were cooked in 1-2 laps and understeer was definately an issue. Good semi slicks will give you about 5 seconds a lap over street tyres. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted June 3, 2013 Moderators Posted June 3, 2013 Big difference betweem street tyres, like your Nankangs, Wan-li's compared to DOT approved semi's. Anything with small blocks designed to last for 300,000 kays and disperse water while taking the kids to school, is best kept for the public road while the semi's with larger main blocks with some grooves to let water escape and only last maybe 10,000? kays are good for the track. You should know that Simon... Quote
luvemfast Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 I read street tyres as street legal. Which semi's are. Alex. Do you not have semi's? Why not! Quote
Agno Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 I have actual "street tyres" (Toyo T1R). Why no semis? Because With some minor tweaks and more practise I'm aiming to have another second or so off that time, just so when I do get the semis I can keep you all honest! Also Gareth no older Zeds there were a few 350Zs. They were all running semis, or forced induction, or both! There was a very nice looking supercharged 350Z doing constant 1:35s all day Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted June 3, 2013 Moderators Posted June 3, 2013 What size rims are you running? It pains me to say but a "good" set of second hand semi's may be a good option. If you have 16"'s, Lawrence "Lgee" has some Dunlop's for sale at around $400 with lots of life left. He has sets with various amounts of wear at different prices. Problem is don't know how many heat cycles they have been through and how hard they have been worked so its a bit of a gamble. The R1R's look like a good wet weather tyre but are just still a performance road tyre. Quote

PZG302 Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Little bit late for the update, but on the 15th July I took the hairdresser car out to Lakeside. In the morning whilst it was still dry I got down to a 67.0677, so very happy with that for a car that has a 220,000 km motor in it with only extractors and exhaust modified, plus some cheap BC street series coil overs. The rain arrived just before lunch, did one run as the rain started and put the car away for the day, Lakeside isn't fun in the wet and the risk isn't worth it. A wise decision as we had on car come off at the kink at the end of the day, driver was all right, but the car had every panel hit and looking very sad after hitting the tyre wall on drivers right and then spearing across the track into the tyre wall on drivers left. The car is now getting a set of replacement panels including rear quarters to be grafted on, so will thankfully live to play again. Next track day for it will be at QR on the 9th September, so should be able to drop a second or so off the times I was doing out there as I get braver with the car. At Qr there is low risk high reward so I should be able to shave some time off chasing the right guys around. I would hope to be in the 67's for the clubman circuit if the weather is good. If I get the race seat and harness fitted, I would expect another half to one second quicker off the times again as I am held in the car and not hanging on and bracing myself as I try to drive. Quote
Vic Dyno Hire Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 I took the A12 powered Datto 1200 back to Philip Island a couple of weeks ago. New PB, 1.46.2. Fitting a Watts link has helped heaps, but it still has issues. I`ll raise the rear roll center or stiffen the springs before I play again. Quote
Gordo Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 That's a fast time. What capacity engine is that, and are you using slicks? Still fast times Simon. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted December 18, 2013 Moderators Posted December 18, 2013 I'm expecting pics of a small sports sedan 1200.. Quote
Vic Dyno Hire Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Na, slicks and wings would be cheating lol. It's an Improved production car, so has AO50's and a 125mm rear spoiler. 1171cc pushrod engine(original A12 engine) w a turbo. I was a bit disappointed I couldn't replicate that time in one of the races, cos then I would have had the U2lts lap record. The record is currently 1.46.5 I have to wait till April to have another crack at it. Quote
