    The Datsun 1200 coupe again: -Owner- me (Simon P) -Driver - Jordan Cox -Tailem Bend International Circuit -A12 turbo 237Hp -AO50 Mediums -2.05.2 -2.05.95 (official lap record) Unfortunately, the engine let go before the final.

    Wakefield in the A12 powered 1200 coupe. Wakefield. 1.03.4 Had a mate Jordan cox having a steer, and that.... He can! This lap was a 1.03.8 I think. AO50's and about 240Hp, 1171cc

    I bought the car as is, 10 years ago. All I do know is that it has 50mm throttle bodies and early 2 Group Motec. When I changed the gearbox I saw that it also has an ally flywheel and Sachs clutch. It also has an external feed to the side of the oil pump and a big Harmonic balancer. Internally, I don't have a clue. The head will have to come off soon to replace the gasket as it has a slight water weep out the side. I'll know a bit more then.

    Thanks heaps for that. I'll remove the head and measure the gasket thickness. I didn't build the engine and are not sure of valve to piston clearance or comp. I've been happy with the MLS on the A12, but 1mm might be a bit thin once I get the head skimmed on this one. I'll measure it and get back in touch. Might be a couple of weeks before I get to it.     Finally got club reg on the Z, I'd love to come for a drive and meat some Zeders. Unfortunately the only weekend I have free in March is 21st/22nd. Is that the one after the GP? EDIT, just checked .. it is.

    Hi guys, I've just noticed a head gasket weep between cyl 4 and 5 plugs. It does have some old staining from when the car was last run 8 years ago. It this a common thing? Maybe a head corrosion problem? And can someone recommend a good gasket for a hot engine? Its making petty good grunt now, so want to keep it sealing. Thanks again, Simon

    Hi all, I've just had the Z put on Club rego and its missing the LH wiper. Does anyone have one they would be prepared to sell to me? Im also needing to get the hand brake working again. I need the "U" shaped cable guide where the cable doubles back, and also the adjusting rod and clevis that goes to it. Basically the bits between the cable and the tunnel mounted pivot bit. I hope that sort of makes sense? Thanks heaps, Simon

    Hi Mickboy, I want to keep the old gearbox and tailshaft, just incase I get the box rebuilt one day. I ended up getting a new shaft made from scratch for mine. I'm sorry I cant help you out.

    Finally had a tail shaft made. Just ran it up on the dyno as it was. Needs work, but its a good feeling to have it driving again. Just a short youtube clip.

    I bought this car about 10 years ago It has an L28 with very early motec on it. I started the car 2 days ago for the first time in 8+ years and I had fogotten how good it sounds. Next step is to get a tailshaft made or found and check the tune. Hopefully club rego some time in 2015 and catch up with some of you on a cruise or two! Ill put up any pics, vids or progress that may be of interest.

    Wakefield- 1.05.6. Nov 2014. Datsun 1200 coupe, AO50's, A12 turbo. My first time to Wakefield and it took me a long time to find my way around. I was still learning at the end of the weekend! Good fun tho

    Hey Gareth, Ive pulled most of the vids off youtube, but this is one of the Datsun 1200 club dyno day at my place. Mine is right at the end of the vid(incase you want to save a bit of time). No track action, but a bit of a look at the car anyway.

    Na, slicks and wings would be cheating lol. It's an Improved production car, so has AO50's and a 125mm rear spoiler. 1171cc pushrod engine(original A12 engine) w a turbo. I was a bit disappointed I couldn't replicate that time in one of the races, cos then I would have had the U2lts lap record. The record is currently 1.46.5 I have to wait till April to have another crack at it.

    I took the A12 powered Datto 1200 back to Philip Island a couple of weeks ago. New PB, 1.46.2. Fitting a Watts link has helped heaps, but it still has issues. I`ll raise the rear roll center or stiffen the springs before I play again.

    I've had a few people telling me not to sell it, and after washing off 8 years of dust today I'm now having second thoughts about selling. The colour can't have been too popular when they were made, or people hated it that much that they changed it! I don't mind it.
