Sirpent Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Get it re-vacuum covered by the Dash Doctor. All 260Z dash's are the same, no difference between a 2 seater and a 2+2, that goes for all structual, equipment and features from the firewall forward. Quote

Is it possible to just strip the dash to its bare plastic form, like without any foam/spongy material and just paint over the bare skeleton - and use that? What are your opinion's on this idea? Sirpent Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Wont work The foam actually makes up the skin shape. Only way to do it yourself is to do as RBZ did and re-finish it that way or reskin it. That polyfoam actually is held onto a metal skelton or frame with self tappers. Quote
nizm0zed Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 the S30 dashes are one of the hardest dash boards to reskin to a factory appearance. pretty much every upholsterer will tell you that. Thats one of the main reasons why its so expensive. Alfa Fibreglass do a fibreglass replacement dash, you could allways buy one of them and paint it in the Tautflex paint to imitate the vinyl pattern. Quote

gilltech Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 As Nimozed says, the Z dash is probably the most complicated dash the re-skinning man will ever have to deal with. Hence the cost, they take a fair amount of time as there is usually much re-shaping & crack filling work required with the foam substrate before he even thinks about applying a new skin, & he has to do all that perfectly & stand by his work. Put it this way, re-skinning something like a Lotus dash is easy by comparison. If your dash is badly cracked in that the crack edges have curled it's very hard to doctor it up to look even halfway decent, a few have succeeded but many have failed or given up. You could either get hold of a dash cap, they can look fairly convincing if installed really really carefully, or purchase an overlay dash mat (carpet) - I've seen them on eBay. If you're strapped for cash I'd go for the mat, & have the dash re-skinned at some later date when you're feeling flush; then keep using the dash mat to protect the renewed dash for general use & just take it off for show days perhaps. My 2c worth. Quote

K&H although I don't like a lot of their gear do make an excellent bumper bar primer filler, I have used it and was very impressed. It dries hard, is designed to spray onto PU plastics, is heat tolerent flexable and sands fairly easily wet and dry. I will try and find a link to the product. Cheers John Quote
