2010 Apollo Bay Run - Oct. 23rd.

When: Saturday, Oct 23rd

 

Meet at the outbound servo at the Westgate 9:30am with departure at 10:00am sharp.

We will then travel via the Deer Park bypass, then on towards Ballarat (boring hwy drive section). ETA at Ballarat 12:00pm. Then Lunch at Ballarat?

Travel south from Ballarat to Colac: ETA 2:30

Then through Colac - Deans Marsh - Lorne - Apollo Bay. ETA AB: 4:00 - 4:30pm

I've taken some liberty's with the timing, so Ballarat guys feel free to chime in about the best route to take & the time in which to do it, please?

 

Accommodation TBA, for those staying.

Can I suggest the Big4 park at Wye River.  Good Pub, Good little restaurant and beautiful and quiet and ....  it's just good and gets us out of Apollo Bay!!

Hi Guys,

 

I was looking into our usual date for this one, late Aug/early Sept however it seemed to be a bad time for so many of the regulars that got back to me. So October sounds good Lurch. The usual run through Lorne to AB has worked well previous years. We know the accomodation is nice enough also. Once we work out a date I'll rehash last trips itinery.

That's not a bad drive.  I drive from Horsham to Apollo Bay a couple of times a year.  Normally turn off at Beaufort, but it's the bits well south of there that are interesting.  Also a lot less GOR traffic.

Excellent idea. Another photo opportunity and there's a couple of ways to go (dale will say no because there's a Zed hiding up that way) but count me in.

Not at all, I have done Lukes Run in the Zed for the past 4 yrs and in one day done the loop.

 

Ballarat - Geelong - Apollo Bay - Lavers Hill - Apollo Bay - Ballarat

 

Fun roads make the time go quick.

Maybe just a day Cruise would be good it can be hard for people to find the dollars to do an overnighter...

See i've been to apollo bay so many times it's stupid but i love the drive there, but then again going to Thredbo... I'm +1 for ditching this one and going to Thredbo.

I'm keen subject to a suitable date & the Z running happily.  If this goes ahead & people don't want to spend $ on an overnighter it's not a massive stretch to drive back to Melbourne in one day anyway.

I'd be an ovenighter, after all that driving I always look forward to a shower, a quiet drink at the hotel and then off to dinner. But it's close enough for all to have the option of a drive back hope at the end of the day for anybody that would not prefer to stay the night.

 

This is a template plan from yeasr prior:

 

Meet at the outbound servo at the Westgate 10:00am with dep at 10:30am sharp

10:30am to 12:00 - Melbourne to Bells Beach approx 100km (1 hour 20 minutes), 30 min stop to stretch the legs and maybe walk on beach

12:30pm to 1:00pm - Bells Beach to Lorne, approx 25km  (30 minutes), 1 hour stop for lunch

2:00pm to 3:00pm - Lorne to Appollo Bay approx 50km  (45 minutes depending on traffic)

3:00pm  Check in. For those that are staying the night check in to Apollo Bay accomodation, if weather is good go for a spin out to Lavers Hill and be back in time for drinks and dinner

Lurch keep in mind the best stretch of road for that trip is the 55km run from Lorne to Apollo Bay. Colac to Lavers Hill to AB will niss the best part of it?

Yer I'm too fussed with the route and it would be good to chnage it just for the sake of seeing new roads but we really should try and keep that stretch of road in the journey up as it's 55km of driving bliss.

 

Anyhow you determine the route as you've been and we'll have to talk about accomodation between us soon.

Still looking although I have found a nice original 240 with original faded paint but very clean, minimal rust. Thats another story for another thread though. Will see how it goes. In the mean time the wifes car got hit our the the front of the house whilst parked. Looks like a ride off, will know this week so must find her a car now.
