acdc-5 Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Hey all, Just picked the zed up today which some of you may have seen in on ebay last week. Its a late 73 260z (RS30 010007) which i purchased to use just as a track car. It currently has Fibreglass gaurds, bonnet, doorskins, front spoiler and inspection flaps. It also has a cams approved half cage which will be replaced with a full 6pnt cage i recently bought from bond roll bars. The paint is pretty poor at the moment but im not too fussed at the time being as its only a track car. Ive got a stock RB25DET im putting in it. But first things first i need to fix up the engine bay. It has the usual rust in the lower section of the radiator support, and the po has cut alot of bits out to run intercooler piping. Its all a bit of an abortion so ive got a bit of work to do. We've only just had our new shed delievered so i wont be doing alot of work till thats up. Here's some pictures and ill post up any progress i make Cheers Quote
C.A.R. Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 I thought it didnt include any suspension/wheels? Good luck Quote
acdc-5 Posted July 5, 2009 Author Posted July 5, 2009 He ended up leaving the suspension and wheels on so i could get it home, i'm on the looks out for front struts if you know of any. Cheers Quote
xa1973 Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Good one Mate, needs a little bit of work..... Look forward to your work in progress pics........... Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted July 5, 2009 Administrators Posted July 5, 2009 I'm surprised it was allowed to race with rust like that in the radiator support. Good luck with the project. She definitely needs some TLC. Quote
MickyG Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Tyres aren't stretched enough. See if you can squeeze some 175's on there... Quote
lightmaster240z Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 I just love those pipe good luck with the rebuild regards Bruce Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted July 5, 2009 Administrators Posted July 5, 2009 I'm gonna get crucified for this, but I kinda like it like that. Quote
RB30X Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 I've got some front strut assemblies from a 280zx that look like they'll fit the earlier models. Pulled em out of the ones I had before they went to heaven. You should put bonnet pins on it and sell me the locking mechanism. Sure looks tuff sitting in your back yard. Quote
acdc-5 Posted July 19, 2009 Author Posted July 19, 2009 I cleaned all the crap out today and removed the carpet to find 24236487326 bits of steel plate welded on the floor pans on either side. I believe these are available from rare spares, so ill have to order some up soon. Also found a bit of rust under the seal for the hatch at the back and some more at the front when i removed the headlight buckets. I removed the fuel tank aswell to fix up the dodgy installation and replace the tank with an rci cell id allready purchased. Some people just shouldnt try and fix cars...... Quote
xa1973 Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 It is a shame when others butcher what should be a straight forward repair... At least you know what your up for.....keep em coming Quote
waxhead Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 It was listed as a special lightweight boat I guess it was due to the rust huh Quote
acdc-5 Posted July 19, 2009 Author Posted July 19, 2009 i'd say so. There's bog in places it doesnt need to be haha Quote
stewk240 Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Kev, I am looking for a half roll cage...second hand is fine for me to put in a 240Z car. Is your's bolt in (hoping it would also fit 240z?) and if so, do you want to sell it since you are fitting a full cage in? Stew (Melb) Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted July 20, 2009 Moderators Posted July 20, 2009 I've got a pair of front struts if you still need a pair. Just no hubs or discs and no tops (the part with the 3 studs that bolt to the body). I think they are called insulators? Quote

The rear bars are welded onto a plate that bolts to the shocker tower, and the main hoop is welded to a bracket which is welded to the floor. The bracket is just a piece of 3 or 4mm steel bent 90 degrees. Its a cams approved cage. As far as i know it will go straight into a 240z. Pm me an offer if your interested. Cheers Quote

acdc-5 Posted July 20, 2009 Author Posted July 20, 2009 I actually wrote strut TOPS not strut Braces. But i do have a front cusco strut brace. It was about $250 i think?? if you after any cusco stuff or anything from japan for that matter, email this guy www.jessestreeter.com He's an aussie living over in japan and he will source whatevers it is you need and arrange to have it sent to you. He's pretty cheap and very helpfull too. Quote

Cheers One thing you might need to check with this is whether the cage would still be CAMS approved when fitted to another car. Reason for saying that, is that for example aluminum rollcages are now not CAMS legal, however cars which already had them fitted and approved before this rule change remain CAMS approved. But if the alloy cage is removed from one car, I understand it can't be fitted to another car, as it is treated as a new cage. So if the specs (bracing, angles whatever) have changed since that cage was built, you may not be able to get it CAMS approved in a new car. Only an issue if using the cage for open races under CAMS control, of course, for club sprints etc shouldn't be an issue. But if you are doing open races, and want this cage, best to double check with a CAMS officer that it will get approval before you go sticking it into your car. Quote
acdc-5 Posted July 20, 2009 Author Posted July 20, 2009 Thats a good point. I know a bloke who does the cams logbooks so ill ask him when i see him next. Quote
stewk240 Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Thanks Kev, if you could ask him from your end and I will ask around from my end...I am not in the market to pay a lot for it so I understand if you want to post it for sale...I guess around $100 depending on condition/fit etc. If it is not cams approved it would not be worth putting in...it would just be for regularity, but as you may know, regularity can turn into racing one day....appreciate it.
