stewk240 Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Just got my front spoiler completed on my 240z. It was purchased from All Z Parts in Sydney and is Urethane. It was installed by my mechanic and was apparently a pain in the you know what to fit perfectly. Urethane being so flexible needed heat moulding, support brackets and a tiny bit of cutting before any painting. The paint also needed a good amount of flexible agent so it does not crack which is a little more expensive. As seen below (hopefully pic came out) I am stoked with the result. Would I have preferred Fibreglass?...Maybe easier to install by just cutting, but hopefully this will last longer if I hit anything. Stew. Quote
sexual_sushi Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 wow that looks hot. very nice car, I would love to see more pictures Quote
620Z Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Nice so are we going to see it in a few weeks at the Jag Club Stew? Quote
S30Mike Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 The PU is much more forgiving and easier to fit then the fibreglass ones. i mean at least the PU ones are flexible. i fitted mine myself, and it was also from warren at zparts and i had no troubles lining it all up fantastic results you got there but, looking very nice. stewk240 Posted April 22, 2009 Author Posted April 22, 2009 I guess you can get lucky if it lines up well...all cars are different I guess...especially with a full ground up restoration I will bring it to the Jag Club if I make it...99% in though. Quote
stevo_gj Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Maybe you got a dud batch, but I bought the same air dam as you last year and it fit quite nicely, only modification was drilling the holes to mount it. As for fibreglass, all I know is that they are a lot more likely to crack and break, and that if they don't fit well they are a bastard of a thing to get into place. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted April 22, 2009 Moderators Posted April 22, 2009 Don't forget though, I think almost all zeds were hand made and most of the panels had to be "made" to fit; some mods had to be done to fit guards, bonnets etc. If the part didn't fit they would become spare parts! Try taking a guard off one original car and fitting it to another...they are always out a tad. I'm not talking inches, just enough to make it hard. Looks good there...when I'm all cashed up I'll have to look into one of those! Quote
stevo_gj Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Off topic, but I thought the 240s had horizontal chrome bars on the front with no vertical bits.. Is that a 260z bumper bar? Quote
sexual_sushi Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 No they all had the overriders but a lot of people take them off for a "cleaner" look. I'm doing this to my cars but at the same time a nicely straightened and chromed bumper with new rubbers and overrides does look mean. It completes the lines of the car at the front. Replacing those rubbers can be expensive... Stewks picture is a good example of how good it can look with them left on Quote
sco_aus Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Yeah, I agree. I am jealous you were able to paint your PU bar. We didn't have any flexing agents to add to the paint or whatever when my car was being painted, so it is just standard. We have tried a few different things to shine it up (I want it gloss black), but nothing really successful yet. I still have the paint, so i might get a mate to paint it. Good work mate, yours looks fantastic. Quote

Good work mate, yours looks fantastic. Hey man at the Nationals some friendly bikers gave me can of silicon spray to use on my PU air dam (it was still black then) and it came up looking gloss black. It's the same sort of stuff that you use on tyres and I found it to be brilliant. Had to be careful not to get any on my acrylic paint though. Quote
Toecutter Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I prefer those poly spoilers. I've got the same one from Allzpargts and it replaced a FG one. I hope you have braced it down low in the front as the wind at high speed will push it down and out of shape and it will eventually stay down like a boxers nose. If you have'nt braced the front I'd do it before the paint cracks, I know it;ll flex but why push it!? If you're curious about the barcing doa search and you'll find a thread with that exact spoiler braced to the radiator support. Mine as well as a couple of oyher members here. Sulio Quote
stewk240 Posted April 22, 2009 Author Posted April 22, 2009 Yep, I figured the most important part of the operation was to have a good brace. One that will bend if I hit something, but strong enough that it won't move at high speeds. It also needs to be properly braced before paiting. If you are coming to the Jag club you can check it out. I think it is perfect. I saw the other brace from the other post and found that it was a little overkill. Quote
