bluerat Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Howdy, My name is Hodgo and I thought I should introduce myself, after reading how much people take this bit seriously. Anyway I live on the NW coast of Tasmania and am a shift worker at he local paper factory, for the time being as the old girl is looking shakey at the moment!! I've been racing/rallying a 1600 since 1990 until now, I also, up until recently navigated in the Tas Rally championship in the ex Cody Crocker 05 Aust championship winning WRX, Rally Tas in my good mates HQ Monaro (the fab miss Molly) and club rally events in a VN Commadore (your right, but its fun and cheap). I was president of the local CAMs car club for 5 years earlier this century and am the the clubs rep on CAMS state council etc etc etc. I have a 1970 240Z which has a great rally history and was owned by another mate of mine. Its being rebuilt after it was pulled apart around 7 years ago. I've had a lot of fun tracking down its past owners, and collecting photos and info on it. The plan is to having it up and running for the clubs 'Black Tack' series first round, a hillclimb, in Feb 2010 and will keep it on the bitumen. Things are well underway, with the suspension back in, and the brakes are next on the list. We've rebuilt the 4.4 R200 Torsen diff, picked up a 2.9 first 260Z box and plan to run a mild L28. I will post some more stuff up when it starts looking like a car again. Quote
Mr240z Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 +1 Hi my name is paul, and I own a Datsun 240z......... .......................DONE...................................... Quote

xa1973 Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Hello Mate Welcome Ill be keen to see the rebuild pics Cheers Quote
bluerat Posted March 12, 2009 Author Posted March 12, 2009 Thanks guys, She should be a good thing, 40mm Drummond built Bilsteins with shorted adjutable platforms, Volvo 4 spots all round with a pedel box with Falcon vented discs, Log booked Alloy cage, Velo seats, rose jointed front end, newish heavy duty rails with extra engine bay bracketing and seam welded, Torsen 4.4 (ex r31 touring car) . Engine is a 86mm L28 with LD crank, L24 rods, ported P90a head, ITB's, 76 degree cam. We have to work out pistons and balancer, and are hoping to run 11.5 to1 on avgas. The ex Fury Stanza option 1 and Haltec computer/wiring have gone, but we will work around that......Oh yeah chassis no is 00030. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted March 12, 2009 Moderators Posted March 12, 2009 Wow! early one there! Sounds like a excellent mix of goodies. Should put up a youtube video of it running; would love to hear it... Quote
Scando Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Nice car, will make an excellent tow vehicle for Boofs trailer Quote
zed240au Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 well good to see you officially introduce yourself hodgo great to see as many tasmanian here as we can mick Quote
bluerat Posted March 13, 2009 Author Posted March 13, 2009 LOL, A turbo or Chev powered Zed would be better suited to towing a large, hoofed, grumble bum like boof. Funny you said that Scando, I 'sponsered' a hundred bucks worth of diesel for her race this weekend, and she left her car empty.... Mick, Two red Zeds at events will make a great sight, we will have to talk Grunge into doing some more race'n and make it three.... Dont get too carried away Zedman, the only noise coming from the engine for a while will be Lathe on flywheel, or me gumbling about trying to save money!! LOL. I might spend some of Kev's free money on one of those 'Hero' cams, they look the goods, so i'll post something up when it happens, hopefully over winter. So whats the hot ticket with harmonic blancers?? BMW sounds like what everyone uses? SWr quotes $480, is this the sort of money I should be expecting to pay? He also said there is another one out of the US for around a grand? Quote
mossy Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Try robco for the balancer, I'm pretty sure he does them as well. Robco Engineering. Factory 2, 40 Titan Drive, Carrum Downs Phone: 03 9775 1413 Quote
Scando Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 So whats the hot ticket with harmonic blancers?? BMW sounds like what everyone uses? SWr quotes $480, is this the sort of money I should be expecting to pay? He also said there is another one out of the US for around a grand? Mick got me one when he got his. They were $170 each I think? Although I think Mick has mine again now cause he destroyed his when his throttle jammed! I never bothered with it cause I don't rev mine hard enough. Quote
bluerat Posted March 18, 2009 Author Posted March 18, 2009 Thats cheap Shane!! do you know what they are off, which model, not a 535i?? I know they rev to 6500.... I'm happy to pay the big bucks if they are a better thing!! I'm not keen on them failing, as there seems to be a XU-1 at every clubday/hillclimb sidelined with a broke one!! Anyway things are moving along nicely, all the suspension is back in after sandblasting and painting, new rims ordered, fibreglass bumpers ordered, steering rack back in after a clean up and birthday. Next is to get some caliper kits and hoping that the brake pistons are ok..... Quote
Mr240z Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 fibreglass bumpers ordered, Hey Hodgo , Where and how much where they.. Paul Quote
Scando Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Thats cheap Shane!! do you know what they are off, which model, not a 535i?? I know they rev to 6500.... haha, does Sonia know that 535i's rev to 6,500rpm or is that a secret I'm not sure which model they're off. Best to give Mick a call cause he sorced them (from the US I think?). I'm not sure how good they are. Mick did destroy one but that was when his throttle stuck on and it pulled enough revs to destroy the engine too! Quote
bluerat Posted March 19, 2009 Author Posted March 19, 2009 She's a bigger hoon than me Scando!! Shes planning on running it at the Kart track lap sprint and the Symmons clubday in the BM, I worried that it will eat the 1600 at Symmons, whats a man to do.....get the Zed going!! The fibreglass came from the good people at Alpha fibreglass, they can do anything for a Zed, and are just in the proccess of updating/redoing there Zed moulds. Cost is around $155 each. Quote
bluerat Posted March 20, 2009 Author Posted March 20, 2009 Crikey, when did you enquire Lurch? Im sure they were that price in 07 when I enquired for my 1600? Quote
Scando Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Rumor has it somebody will be seeing Targa Tas from the passenger seat of the 0 sweep car? Have fun mate, should be a blast!!! Quote
bluerat Posted April 24, 2009 Author Posted April 24, 2009 Were in a.....Mazda....So I was trying to keep it quite!! Well at least it's not a Wankle!! or an MG. Quote
Scando Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Ha, I am with ya on that Bloody wankles. The sound of them makes me want to stick something sharp into my ear. Although there was a 20B powered RX7 that ran last weekend which changed my opininion slightly. It screamed instead of the normal buzz and boy did it go!!! Quote
bluerat Posted April 24, 2009 Author Posted April 24, 2009 You rangg....Ease up on the Tassie Bashing....... Quote
