DoctorZ Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 I've owned Datsun/Nissan cars for the past 15 years but nothing has been as special as owning a Z car. Firstly I owned a 76 120Y, then I bought a second 120Y as a sr20DET project but it never went anywhere. Then I bought an SII bluebird and then a 1990 Skyline GXE. Getting Married and having kids put the brakes on sticking an RB25DET in that car, but when I saw the '75 260z 2+2 come up for sale in my area, well... all logic went out the window. I drove her home running on 5 cylinders, bad synchro on 2nd gear and enough petrol fumes to ruin my taste buds for a day, but I didn't care, I was blinded by love! (hope my wife doesn't read this) Quote
Glen Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Nice buy mate i like that colour. Which state you in? Quote
DoctorZ Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 I live in SA. The paint job would have looked awesome when it still had the clear over it, unfortunatelly it was a botch job by a previous owner and most of it has peeled off. I'm pretty sure there's an illegal amount of Bog in some of the lower panels also. I took the car for it's first "non-backfiring" drive today after sorting out some issues with the Carbies. I bought this car a year ago so how slack am I! Quote
oldmates260z Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 There is true Datsun blood in your veins, no hope for you Quote
C.A.R. Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Yep, your stuffed Welcome to the forum! Quote
DoctorZ Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 I admit I'm severely addicted to Datsuns, epsecially Zeds. Perhaps someone should start a Datsun Addicts Anonymous forums somewhere. Anyhow, here's some more photo's of the car just after I bought her. After finding what looks like an old rego sticker in the center console, I have a feeling the car used to be somewhere in Western Australia. If there's anyone out there that recognises this car, or maybe you used to own it then give me a shout, I'd love to know it's history. Quote
Add Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Hey doc, welcome to the 2+2 club. Nice Z, what colour is it by the way. From the photo angle is it dark silver or black? Quote
DoctorZ Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 Guess you'd call it gun metal grey. It has a flec in it but the effect is lost without the clear coat over it. I want to keep the colour but It will need a respray once the rust and bog is removed. This is going to be one hell of a learning experience, just hope I can stick to it. Quote

Add Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 I can just hope that its previous owner was better than mine was. Still pulling out large amounts of bog and fiberglass, it gets a little discouraging in places. I was looking at heading a dark shade of silver also. Good luck mate. Lurch the first step is to admit you have an additction. Quote
DoctorZ Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 Well, after sticking a screwdriver through some of the subframe and the floor like it was cardboard, I have a feeling they tried to cover up some serious structural rust before sale. I was discouraged when I first discovered it but after seeing what others have done to fix their rust problems I'm not shaking in my boots quite so much. I think I'm just scared to get started. I can drive it at the moment and ejoy it, but when I begin this project the car will likely be out of action for 12 months or more. Quote
Glen Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Hey doc, welcome to the 2+2 club. I like the sound of that Quote
lightmaster240z Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Happiness is a New owner of a Z just before he look for the rust but seriously well done. I look forward to see your progress regards Bruce Quote
C.A.R. Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Makes me want to buy a 260z :'( Join us in the Dark Side, Luke... Quote
DoctorZ Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 Thanks for the welcome to this site everyone, feels like home sweet home!! Quote
Add Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Doc, I regret not driving my 260 around for a bit. Instead went for a short drive around the block (5 mins - big block) and resto began. Luckily I have a 280ZX as a daily so it keeps the hunger at bay. Add Quote
Dingo Dave Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Welcome mate. Once you start your first resto you eather stop at one or go on and do a lot more. I have only met a couple of people who stopped at 1. I have met a lot that finished ! and said never again and 2 years later there in their garage stoop the next project. Good thing about sites like this is there are plenty of people to suport you and help you out. I noticed on this site even though they have their own cars in progress they still end up in my shop with my car. Well. We hope to see some progress on your car. Hope to see some on mine as well lol. happy restoring. Quote
DoctorZ Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 I thought I'd upload an inspiration photo. This is something like what I want her to end up looking like. I'm no genius with photo editing so it's not exact. I hope the original owner of this 2+2 doesn't mind me "improving" his car a little! Quote
Mr240z Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Can someone tell me how to upload the large picture's like DoctorZ has done above. Quote
Dingo Dave Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Mate thats looks awsome. Dont worry about the owners of the past. they let the car go. Its now your turn to do what you want to it. Quote

Do you think those guards have been rolled out or have they been added on? Quote
DoctorZ Posted February 15, 2009 Author Posted February 15, 2009 I've edited the photo, the original picture had those screw on flares. I just blended them in to the body so they looked like one unit Quote
