Hi all

Have a standard radiator in my Fairlady Z. I am looking at losing some weight and getting something in there a bit more modern. I am running a L28 EFI motor.

Does anyone have advice on what radiators work well to give good cooling and reduced weight? Tried one from a mate that was from a Silvia.... nice and light but a bit small and running a bit warm.

Any advice to make it easy appreciated

Maynot be what you're looking for, but in mine I run a VL turbo radiator, 3 core.

In my opinion the older motors seem to run best with the older style radiators, ie not the new aluminium ones, plus the older styles radiator is generally cheaper and easier to repair.

I run a stroked L28 with turbo log, standard injectors and electronic dizzy controlled by Haltech F9 computer. I get just under 150 rwhp and a mountain of torque, 640lb according to the dyno sheet from 3000 to 5250 rpm. The car runs an electronic fan that I only switch on when sitting on the dummy grid waiting to go out. Once moving it doesn't get hot at all, but then I'm not sitting in traffic.

I find the time taken to get to temperature can take a little too long for my liking in winter, but summer isn't a problem.

Mate if you want to lose weight there are heaps of better and cheaper ways to lighten your car. Radiators don't weigh that much. Obviously an Alloy one would help. But if it is simply to lose weight I would start throwing things out of the car first. Or put less water in your radiator.  :D That was an attempt at humor.

But seriously 2kg won't make any difference to your car even on the track. Only serious weight loss will do the trick.

Maybe start a thread on how to lighten your car. (Would be an interesting thread) I will bet you can lose 20-40kg with ideas from people on this forum as most of us have done it. Cheers

i used R32 RB20DET. and seesm to do the job quite well on 43C plus temperatures in traffic.

have 2X12" electric fans

that silvia one was it turbo or non turbo?

Turbo ones are almost twice as thick in core even thought the tanks are same size. R32 RB20DET and S13 SR20DET radiators are identical.

need slight trimming on the radiator to fit in the later 260z body.
