Mr240z Posted December 14, 2008 Posted December 14, 2008 Hi all Zed car members, This zed car website is my favourite site on the net As of this point I have spent 9 days 3 hours and 32 minutes logged on to auszcar. Talking to one of my mates about websites and cost, he told me, there is alot of time and money that goes into keeping up a site and maintenance to keep the site running smooth, So i went to the HOME page and found the PayPal Donation part and donated some money so the webmasters can keep it going for 2009 So what do you boys think about putting your hand in your pocket and throwing some hard cash there way I would like to say a BIG thanks to the main guys Gavin, Sulio and Lurch (i think its craig) if i,ve left anyone out sorry. And lets hope for a good safe new year. Paul Mr240z p.s I know alot of the member's donate already Quote
Toecutter Posted December 14, 2008 Posted December 14, 2008 Thanks Paul. Gav will update your avatar to reflect your a donationg member soon. At some time in the future we hope to have some info up showing the costs of running the site. Currently all donations made via the front page PayPal button go to site hosting although I think Gav tips a bit in from his own pocket also. Craig and I have started a Vic fund via a raffle at the last Vic BBQ meet, I think we raised $70.00 and gave away some nice prizes including Z wall clocks, (Thanks to Bruce Traralgon, (Spamaster240) for donating them some time back, they came in handy). Our aim is to try and keep a couple of hundred in the kitty for things like BBQ's and possible future venue hire. We would be pleased to assist other state Moderators in getting organised if help is needed re promoting local cruises etc just get in touch via PM with myself or the other fella's. Thanks Again, Sulio Quote
sydney mike Posted December 14, 2008 Posted December 14, 2008 Onya Pauly, May I suggest PM'ing on request a bank account number for donations because I know that paypal is a rip-off in commissions? I would be happier knowing 100% of my donation is going to running the site. Also maybe not everyone has a paypal account. Quote

I do have a Paypal account as well but they do rape you with their fees Paypal should supply you with a lubricating jelly when you sign up.... Quote
C.A.R. Posted December 14, 2008 Posted December 14, 2008 Yes, I agree. But I don't have PayPal either. Need those bank account details so I can finally donate... Quote
Toecutter Posted December 14, 2008 Posted December 14, 2008 Good idea re showing bank account details. We were holding off on the Vic account until we had a few more dollars as things like $5- monthly fees eat away our rich's but we might be able to sort something out. As far as the main account for hosting etc, thats soemthing I'll discuss with Gav. Cheers, Sulio Quote

Administrators gav240z Posted December 15, 2008 Administrators Posted December 15, 2008 Forgot to mention also, that I made about $120 AU in Google Adsense revenue (Google Ads on home page). So that helps bring the gap between Donations and Hosting costs down. Thanks for the donations guys, when I get home later tonight I'll see to it that your status is updated. Quote
nizm0zed Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 i have allways wondered, with those google ads, does it generate a tiny amount of income when we click on an add? If thats the case, would it be worthwhile if we all clicked on a few links, then closed them each time we logged on here? help increase the income from the ads? Quote

If thats the case, would it be worthwhile if we all clicked on a few links, then closed them each time we logged on here? help increase the income from the ads? As publisher (website owner with ads on it), yes I make a small amount of money everytime a user clicks on it. As an advertiser I'm charged by impressions (amount of times ad is shown). There are other models in place, but this is the most common. I wouldn't recommend clicking on lots of ads randomly, too many from the same IP / address / computer and it will be detected as click fraud and the advertiser will be reimbursed for it. If you find the ad relevant click on it, if not don't . They are more there as a supplemental income, to help cover costs. I dont' like intrusive ads on websites so I try to avoid placing them all over the shop. As a publisher I can't click on them myself, its against the t&c's. I considered placing them above or below the forum pages, but I didn't want to annoy the users of this site. Not sure how much income potential it would boost. Might pay for hosting all together, would have to test it out for a couple of months though. Quote
