Heya NuclearZ,

Just wondering what central locking kit your used?  I am looking at a Rhino one for 70$ from eBay but i dunno... Do you remember what you used / where you got it?

Cheers :)

I have a bosch alternator on the car, and since posting that it was dodgey I have had it rebuilt...

As with all things old, i fix the laternator because it wasnt charging properly and guess what happens next... The wiring to the alternator that "stimulates" it into charging (the warning light circuit) has gone bad somewhere.... so my newly rebuilt alternator isnt doing shit!

Now I have to stick my head up under the dash to fix it all.... Except, I dont know whats gone wrong... Definately am going to install a volt guage to find out what the hell is going on....

i thought slitting my wrists might be more fun :) Then I realised that if do that, the job will never end... At least once I find the problem it will be solved :)

indeed, then again, for a big fat bastard like me, crawling under the steering wheel to look at electrics is like climbing into a straight jacket, i cant move ;)

Back on topic:

I have found out a way to excite the alternator into charging! You use a test light and clip the end onto the positive (charge) outlet on the back of the alternator... Then, you touch the tip onto the warning light connection on the back :) This makes it feel all warm and fuzzy, then it starts winking at you and charging :)

*forgive the rant* Giving blood makes head go weak...

Problem solved!  ;D  Put wriggled off connector back onto charge light and it works :)

On another note, I bought a new gear shift gaiter and am going to finish off my centre console (I hope) in the coming week or two...

Major Progress!!!!

I have finally pulled my finger out and finished my centre console. I am reasonably happy with how it turned out. I must admit I rushed the end stages a little more then I should, but I was terrified I would get stuck for time and wait another almost 5 months to finish it.....

Let me know if people are interested in a write up about how I did it, but I think its pretty straight forward.

here is some progress and final pics... I will be adding my new leather shift boot and reinstalling the alloy trim and ash tray this afternoon and will get some more pics for people then.

Thanks for all the comments guys! And girl  8)

I don't know what the longevity of this fix will be like, I would do a whole lot different if I do another. Suprisingly it probably only took 5 hours work, though I did rush the final stages more then I should have.

For those on a tight budget or scared of he silly money good condition consoles are going for, this may be an answer, it probably cost me $75 bucks of materials :)

I should be able to put together a how to tomorrow, if anyone has suggestions I'd love to hear them! :)

Next thing to do interior wise is fit the aircon system I have bought (mainly the heater atm), and find some nice black leather sports seats to go in... That and a sub into the passenger rear guard (molded fiberglass box)

Posted

Not sure. I dont know what seats will fit, havent done any searching at all...

Thinking some nice leather mazda rx7 (series 6,7,8) seats, or maybe some GTR seats and have them re-trimmed... I would like to keep it nissan based but expense...

Maybe even go down the recaro/cobra/sparco/bride seat road, but again, big money there.

r32 gtr ones would be nice but still fetch good money. plus retrim end up costly.

my favourite seats are Bride but again like GTR can be exy.

btw the car looks so much better now and great work on the console. im going the same path for mine just need to find time to do it.
