Factory Paint or lack of it plus more questions

Hi just after some clarification on paint and methodology.

Noticed an absence of paint on the air tubes and the body work under the wings (is this bare metal or is there a a very thin coating?)

Should the plenum chamber be painted in primer/undercoat appropriate to body colour

Is the scuttle panel painted in situ with the plenum masked (it seem that the line between the body colour and the grey is indistinct) retainers not painted?

The matt black round the door apertures  is hand painted? (original?) how about under the 1/4 panel windows.

Wings bolted on when painted ?

Hatch hinge brackets not painted?

Bonnet hinges painted but not the bolts holding the bonnet on?

Hard to work out what should be on a car that's had 3 resprays and several touch ups

Should be stone chipped and painted body colour.

Yes, it's grey paint (NOT Primer).

We normally paint ours off the car.

That is not original. It should all be body colour.

Yes, but remove the engine bay bolts when you apply colour.

Hatch hinge brackets not painted?
Yes, they are painted body colour from the factory.

Bonnet hinges painted but not the bolts holding the bonnet on?
Nissan plated the hinges and bolts, THEN painted over them in body colour.
Personally I just re-plate them in gold and leave them like that.

That is not original. It should all be body colour.

Beg to differ on this one. I believe that the poster is referring to the inner sill panel under where the carpet/inner black scuff plate is. I have seen hand painted black matt paint in this area as original.

Around the door inner aperture sorry for confusion 

Under the 1/4 lights you can just make out the brush stroke. the paint here appeared original matt black-body colour-dark grey-red oxide

one could see where the masking had been from the later resprays

The grey in the plenum and the undercoat looks to be the same.

this is where  I intone "Albrecht von Goertz father of the Z Car" and wait for the genie to appear

Hi Nick thanks for providing the photos. I have it on my car aswell which hasnt been painted on the inside; ie it is original paint.  I wouldnt bother with Albrecht von Goertz.

Nick was not clear on this. But yes, this is correct.
There is also a big black circle above the rear strut towers...

Whilst from an early 260Z, mine has hand painted black paint on the seat mounting areas adjacent to the doors.

I guess the black is just there so you don't see the body colour if the fit isn't 100%

Just some clarification on bolts holding panels are they all painted from factory

No, they are unpainted.

Are the engine bay bolts something different ?
M6 Narrow hex head bolts. Button headed phillips screws for the rubber guides.

Ditto what AndBir and others are saying about black paint on the seat brackets and anywhere which isn't covered by carpet or trim of some kind. All so no body colour shows through. Pretty basic black slop it is.

As per my early RS30 too, the black circles above the strut towers are behind the ventilation perforations in the plastic trim panels.

There was a discussion thread earlier this year in which HS30-H and others clarified which panels were secured to or sitting on the shell, and which ones weren't, when the shell was painted.

IMO Nissan did the minimum required and the easiest/quickest to suit them. We can do far better with repaints as those such as C.A.R. and others on this forum are demonstrating.
