Toecutter Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Hi Guys, We're looking at who might be interested in an overnight cruise to Mt Buller during the period of the Sprint Event. Last year we drove up the moutain 1 week after the event and had the place to ourselves however this year we have been thinking about driving up during the event and staying for potentially one or two nights during the course of the event. At this point this thread is to assess interest. Accomodation might be the sticking point so it will need to be booked soon if we decide to stick to the weekend of 1 to 3 Nov. I'm not too sure of the event schedule but I believe a drive up Sat 1 Nov, stay for the night coming back Sunday would be easiest. Any body that wants to stay for the Monday could do so as many would have it off due to the 4 Tues being Cup Day. It might be possible to drive up Sat morning watch some cars going up and I believe there is a 1 hr break at lunch time during which the raod is open. We could drive up check in and settle in for the second half of the day. This is just an idea based on some quick discussion with a couple of members. The other option of course is to do it a week or two after the event should that be more popular. I'm still unsure of my commitments for that weekend but I felt I better post this as the date is nearing. Opinions, suggestions? Sulio Quote
mayhem Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 well der! im in im not missing out this time !!! lol :D Quote
620Z Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Hi Sulio, I am keen to head up to watch the Buller Sprint and stay over one or two nights. I have been to 3 of these events and it is a great weekend. Normally we watch all the cars (120) leave from the ticket area at the bottom of the mountain in the morning at 1 minute intervals. Drive up at the lunch time break. Then find a nice spot on the grass next to our esky to watch them race up the hill again in the arvo. Normally I think they race in at Mansfield on the Saturday so the Sunday / Monday is probably the best option. In the vallage they have plenty on with a carnival atmosphere, bands etc during the day not to mention the nightlife. As a side issue I have also been to the Tuesday Mansfield Horse racing which is another hoot/option as well. There are two options for accommodation. One being cheap, a bit out of the village and won't be booked out or the other bit more expensive in the heart of the action. (Same as last year Mt Buller Challet). http://www.mtbullersprint.com/ Quote
Toecutter Posted September 9, 2008 Author Posted September 9, 2008 Yer I'd be happy to run the Sunday coming back Monday as just realised I've got a wedding on the Friday at a winery in Red Hill so Sat would be recovery for me. I think most people will take the Monday off and i should be able to organise that also. Sulio Quote
620Z Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 Ok we intend booking a room in the next week. At present we are still trying to work out if we are going up for one or two nights. Either 2nd and or 3rd Nov 2008. Accommodation for 4 people is $470- the luxury Mt Buller Challet. $118- per head obviously. Like I say there is cheaper Accom available if you want it. Anyway respond to this topic if you are keen and we can pencil you in. Otherwise feel free to come up for the day or organise your selves to suit. Cheers Quote
Hunter Posted September 29, 2008 Posted September 29, 2008 I have a Mine Rescue Competition on at this time, otherwise I would join ya's. Maybe you could ring an accomodation place and ask if they would give AUSZCAR club members a discount at their establishment for a GROUP BOOKING. Quote
Toecutter Posted October 11, 2008 Author Posted October 11, 2008 Nah, most likely will be delayed so we have the mountain to ourselves like last year. Most likely be a December event but I've just got way too much on to set any dates atm. See how it goes over the next few weeks. Sulio Quote
benny Posted October 11, 2008 Posted October 11, 2008 i think maybe some of the guys could organize some cruises for the vic guys before dec its a bit crazy, nsw sounds like theyre having a ball.... there is no reason that the guys cant get together and go for a casual cruise, would be stacks of fun. Just my 2 cents Ben Quote
mayhem Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 tell me about it !!! lol im out every weekend Quote
reverendzed Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 Mayhem, how about you and I put our heads together and try and organise a drive/meet in the next few weeks and just see who can make it. Rev. Quote
Glen Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 Why dont some of you join the NDSOC and then start hitting the track for some sprint days. Myself and mik are heading in that direction before this year is out. Would be fun to get a few 240/260 Z's involved. Quote

Moderators Zedman240® Posted October 12, 2008 Moderators Posted October 12, 2008 Next event for the MSCA is at Sandown on the 19th of October. I will be there but not running as yet. Car is being dynoed this Tuesday and funds don't allow me to run at that event :'(. Still need to enter the event and renew my CAMS licence! ($300ish). Any members here planning on going for a visit? Quote
zedls1 Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 I was so looking forward to the meet especially after a buzz at the P.I sprints, a few weeks ago but the Sandown sprints clashed with around the bay in a day bike ride which i've paid for and i've been riding my ass off to not do it. Plus the Z needs a retune and dyno'd, have it running better for P.I sprints 29th & 30th Nov, i should be there. John Quote

620Z Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I will probably be heading out to Sandown for a look on the 19th. Drives are what you make them guys. Anyone is free to organise one any time. If you look we have had little or no response to the Buller Drive so it is almost cancelled. Sulio & I have been talking about a drive up to Sugar Loaf Reserve near Yarra Glen. Great place for a BBQ and not to long a drive. Melways page 273/274. Worth a look. I went up with the family about 3-4 weeks ago. Speed humps aren't bad either for those low cars. Maybe we should throw around some dates for a drive something like that? I am starting to also think that since not much of a response for Buller that I might be wasting my time trying to organise a 4 day trip up to Thredbo. I still might start a thread and see what happens with that one as some ACT & NSW people might be in that. Cheers Quote
Scoota G Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 What about a Bathurst trip 736 Klms from Melbourne. Imagine the footage aged slightly with all these Z cars running around the Mountain. Quote
620Z Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 I just got back yesterday. But a bit far to drive my Zed in one go, 8.5 hours. Quote
zedevan Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 i am up for anything after november - final assignments are due so am to busy to even go for a nice drive (not that i have a car to take for a nice drive :() Quote
XRQTR Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Speaking of Bathurst what about the masters on the Australia Day weekend, might be worthwhile as it's still a fair way off (3 months) so gives everyone plenty of time to get their shit ready. As for Buller I'd be in but may not have the Z ready but would love to take the XW. This thread should remain the Buller thread, I think too many suggestions have been made and it's lost course, maybe open another for suggetions for further cruises or weekend trips then run a seperate survey style thread to guage interest. Having just a simple survey at the top quickly lets everyone know exact numbers without having to read through all the posts and having to translate whether people are going or just having a chat. Quote
Toecutter Posted October 19, 2008 Author Posted October 19, 2008 Yer, Rev's sorted a cruise day for the 25 Oct so that should be great. Still unsure of this Buller trip as I'm in Bali an not back for a week. Good to see the Melbourne guys organising some add hoc drive's that's what these forums are about, keep it relaxed and "unnoficial" ! Sulio Quote
