List of every Japanese car?

Does anyone have a list, or know where I can find a list of every japanese car made from the late 50's through to 1985?

 

I'm building a website to cover all these models and I know alot off the top of my head, but its the ones that are rare like the 140J and 160J and C10 skyline that I want to include and make sure I've covered.

Nice that is all the cars in the Nissan Heritage collection here is what I think he is looking for

A chart of the Nissan/Datsun that have been built Now just need to find the same for Prince, Toyota, Suzuki, Mazda, Subaru, Isuzu, Hino, and all the other smaller companies that have now long gone.

Thanks guys, this is a start to say the least. I didn't have Hino covered, I'm ashamed to say I didn't even know they made cars - thought it was just trucks. I guess I always have Wikipedia thank god for the Wiki.

Hi Lurch,

Yep it will definitely be a first, the best thing will be the new system I'm using. Its so flexible and powerful that even though there will be so many forum discussions and the like going on, I should be able to keep it organised through tagging and other categorization techniques.

 

Being a moderator shouldn't be a problem, I can use all the help I can get. The new site will be a worldwide based website - not just Australian. So I'm hoping it will take off.

 

Yes we do have Mitsubishi's Gotta cover the old Starion / Sigma Turbo's and Galant's . My only concern will be server space as we start to grow larger and larger.

Forum SW? Not sure what you mean?

 

Some of the differences will be:

 

- Each member can start their own blog (kinda like the project journal here) except a bit more user friendly in that each post will be allowed its own comments and it won't be confined to the one thread.

 

- I'm not 100% sure yet, but I might have the classifieds section separate from the actual forums. This way old ads will expire on their own and I can restrict comments in the classifieds if that's an issue.

 

- Users will be able to comment on articles and rate them, currently not possible on Auszcar.com

- Anonymous visitors will be able to add comments (although they will need to be approved by Admin).

 

- Users can tag and categorise their posts - this is an excellent way to categorise the website.

 

Lets say I tag a post Mazda, RX3, 13B engine, Misfiring

You will then be able to click on links to any of those words and find similar posts on the site.

 

- Search feature on the website will be more integrated and hopefully return better results.

 

- Users can subscribe to our email newsletter and manage their subscription easily. eg: unsubscribe at any time.

 

- Users will be able to add their own how-to's - much like our Manual Conversion article on this site, except that other users may be able to add / edit / revise and improve these articles. Kinda of like Wikipedia.org anyone can edit and provided admins approve it can go live, or you can review older revisions of the same articles and see what's changed etc..

 

- There are many other features that are possible with the system, but I have to review and decide on what I think works best. I'm still learning the system as I go, so there are many things I still don't understand.

 

From an administration point of view the system is great in that I can manage everything easily from the 1 place. If all goes well with the new website - I may consider porting all the data from Auszcar.com to the new platform (although still keeping the websites different). Just to ease future management of the website and make my life easier, plus give Auszcar all the same features.

Software is a lot different.

 

The comments system is very much like youtube.com in that you can reply to the original post or to someone else's comment.

 

The forum system will be alot different - perhaps more simplified in many ways.

 

The permission system will be alot different so I can basically create a role for say a site-wide admin or just a forum admin. Its very granular.

 

I don't think you'll have too much trouble with it. .

Don't fret, there will be deinately be 280zx cars covered. The current website www.vintagejdm.com is a place holder and nothing more. When the site finally (goes officially) live you will see you have been looked after .

 

My biggest task at the moment is organising the website, and doing some final layout changes. I'm very anxious to go live but for a number of reasons over the last couple of weeks have not been able to spend as much time on it as I would like.

 

I also have another front page article for Auszcar.com to still put together.

That's exactly the point the info is scattered and often the websites that have the info move or get deleted or are so old now that they look like websites from 1996 - because they are! .

 

My biggest challenge is organizing the information and making the site user friendly. I will definately let everyone know when its launched but I'm hoping it will be word of mouth and search engine traffic that finds my site as oppose to, too much advertising - I have no budget for that .

 

If things go well I'll consider hiring a few writers to put articles up on the site.

of course, every note on each car will be accompanied by pictures of the said car. where do these pics come from? random internet downloads? if so, try to get actual examples too and in varying conditions. so say youre writing up the piece on the first celica, well internet pics and then if you knew someone with one, put her pic up too. even if shes not showroom. maybe that would be good too, standard, immaculate and crap pics of cars to show their varying states.

 

im not telling you what to do, or "suggesting strongly", i hate when people do that. you can wipe your arse with this post if you please. i was just thinking, thats all!

Yeah I agree with what you are saying completely. The site will be more user generated in terms of content, but it will need some pages that explain each model in detail and provide images of said car. I'm hoping that when users upload photo's I'll have a huge collection to choose from, but we will see how we go.

 

I managed to do a little more work on the site last night, but only very little. Slowly I'm getting there though.
