Aaron Neubauer Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 According to "Haynes", a 260Z 2+2 has a turning circle of 11.3m to the left and 10.6m to the right with 2.9 turns lock to lock. One could assume that one direction having a larger radius would result in less turns needed to reach lock. BTW, nice use of eye and hearing protection.......... Quote
Dingo Dave Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 remember bog absorbs moister. just a hint. who ever did my front quaters didnt know and it was all rusting out under it. Had a few car through my workshop like that. but the best was seam welds from where someone cut rust out and welded new sections in and then just painted over the top. (bad welds too) Its good to see a young person getting into it. I hope you have a lot of pacience and a lot of time and money. although work is a good substitute to money. Tell your mate the pannel beater he is a good man for helping you out with this. some just dont seem to care to help. (unless they get paid). anything you need you can pm me. and im sure we can try to help each other as im in the same prosess. Quote
Michael Posted August 12, 2008 Author Posted August 12, 2008 Hey guys another update! We pulled off the front fenders and headlight buckets and found not one bit of rust! But we did fint that overall The passenger side was 35ml Lower then the drivers side, So may mate did a heap of hammering and jacked it up on a hydrolic jack, And let it down onto a car Stand and a bick that worked Perfectly at the end of about 3 hours work and a night sitting, It ended up with only 2 ml Difference! We reckon with just some Fitting of the front guards it ll end up spot on =D Anyway it rained when i got home so only got one pick from the back "i know" But i got a pick of the valve cover, I still gotta sand the top lettering back to metal then polish it up, But overall looks really good ^^ whatcha guys think? ^^ Quote
Michael Posted August 13, 2008 Author Posted August 13, 2008 Hey guys, Just a quick post of my Painted and all Fancy valve cover ^^ From old to new cost me 25$ Just needs a quick polish till its finished ^^ What do you guys think? ^^ Quote
Brabham Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Hi Michael that is some rapid progress! Just wondering how did you sand the car back to bare metal as I have a few spots that need sanding on mine. I am also fixing up a 2+2 in almost the same color as yours, manual as well! Did you use an orbital sander and what grades of paper? Like the RC car too man I am into them as well that LRP Vector is one maniac motor. Cheers. Quote
Michael Posted August 15, 2008 Author Posted August 15, 2008 - Thanks heaps Angelus! ^^ Im am absolutely stoked with it, Found a scrape of metal polish lying around and the tiny bit i did looks incredible If i do say so myself Brab - Thanks mate! yeah im in a real rush (not so fast that i skip things) Kinda mood at the moment Trying to get it back on the road so i can drive it to my mates year 12 social - Mate i just sanded the bare metal nback on the underside of my bonnet useing 100 grit Followed by 240 grit Then i think 400? Dont use a Really rough sandpaper if you can avoid it, Using paint Stripper will help alot aswell, Basics ive learnt is 240 grit is a good base you could paint on, But i would go down personally to 400 grit or so If you plan on"Not" doing a bare metal respray Sander i used is a Makita Random orbital sander, Im sure many others would be good, But i brought a random orbital so i could use it for polishing aswell, ( Heard bad things about not random orbitals Burning paint) Note: Experiance is only personal, Some professional Spray painters might have a better idea of grits Such/such _ rc, Yeah i know xP I only need to buy a battery to get it running properly But As always Z Comes First ^^! Oh Progress right! While i was at work today a Nice fello In a Wrx Delievered me a Very Nice Front spoiler ^^! Pics to soon be added on test fit! Quote

Michael Posted August 31, 2008 Author Posted August 31, 2008 Last few ^^ *Note, Back flares were positioned a little low i think but was just a rough guess at the time between showers to get a real rough idea of the look ^^ Quote
Brabham Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Hi Michael. How are you attaching the flares? Are they just screw in? Quote
reverendzed Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Hey Micheal, great going man, you are plowing through your rebuild...TOP EFFORT Yeah you definitely had your flares a little low at the rear, it may take a little playing to get them just right. I attached mine with pilot holes, hex head self tappers, a little sikaflex to stop movement and went to clarke rubber and bought some channel which made a nice neat seal. Keep going! Quote
Toecutter Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Hi Michael, Making good progress! Wheels tend to be the make or break factor on the ZG flares...just wondering what your planning on fitting? Sulio Quote
Michael Posted September 1, 2008 Author Posted September 1, 2008 Ah, Well sulio, Im Definently looking at some Rb-r's, I have about 2 weeks before i can afford to snag a set, Only issue i have is Thinking about a color and What thickness/ Specifications i should get ( not sure about offset/such such other then pcd =P) Im thinking either staggered 9" Front 9.5" Rear 17 inch "Big" In either Gunmetal grey or Hyper black, Since im spending $1000+ on wheels I sorta want to show em off a little (Never been a real fan of commodores with production aftermarket wheels such such But yes! Definently the Rb-rs ^^ (banana Shaped ones) And Rev, Very interested in your 2+2 at the moment as im using it as kind of a guide on a few things / Flares looks/ Carbs such such, And also very interested as if you were still interested in doing some cutting/welding Still? As I really dont have the courage to cut my own car up =P Anyway, Must find out more about this service ^^ a the few rusty bits are all thats holding me back from painting the car xP Anyway Off to bed Gotta leave at 4 for work zzz Night! Definently the Rb-rs ^^ (banana Shaped ones) Yer those RB-R wheels are unblvble value. 9 front and 9.5 rears is the way to go. That will really set the car off. There seems to be so much confusion on the RB-R's in the bigger sizes mentioned above. Don't worry about cutting the gaurds. To get it sitting low enough you'll need to. Good luck! Sulio Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted September 1, 2008 Moderators Posted September 1, 2008 Thats the beauty about the 2+2's..You can fit the biggest rubber in the rear. Your car with the flares and big dished wheels will give people sore necks with them trying to keep staring at your Zed! Its looking great Micheal.. Quote
Michael Posted September 2, 2008 Author Posted September 2, 2008 Thanks guys ^^, Its good to know some That other people are finding its Moving along alright wereas most people dont understand ( Not running? Not a car") such such, but yeah ony thing im having trouble with atm is the metalwork as is welding in new patchs so i can finish prep/paint then chuck the engine back in, =D - Checked bushings/Drums/Caplipers and disks, All look brand new! ^^ Only Extreamly minor rust on the outside edge of the dish And all the Bushings are red and still seem to have that greasy coating on them, the drums in the back Had a reciept when i got the car saying they were cracked, But have since been replaced the just asnt a reciept for when they replaced them ^^ Quote
