Gtv240z Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 (edited) I have an e88 head from a skyline I presume, with fuel injection.. I have seen recently these heads seem popular, why is this, are there different variations and what are they worth? Edited March 11, 2018 by CraigZ Quote
d3c0y Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 Close combustion chamber, which is better for making a high compression engine. Gtv240z 1 Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted March 11, 2018 Administrators Posted March 11, 2018 They are worth about $300 which I'll happily give you. ? Quote
Gtv240z Posted March 11, 2018 Author Posted March 11, 2018 (edited) Interesting so I should remove it from the block, check straightness, corrosion and valve guide wear and if serviceable put $600 on it? ? Edited March 11, 2018 by CraigZ Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted March 11, 2018 Administrators Posted March 11, 2018 Haha, yeah. I've seen a few people asking $1000 for them, but at a certain point you should just reweld an earlier E88. They are desired by SC racing guys I think because you're allowed to remove material from a head but not allowed to add anything. So a good starting point. AndBir, hmd and Gtv240z 3 Quote
TOO60Z Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 Remove it from the block and determine if it’s closed chamber to start with. Injected e88 had an open chamber variant as well. Gav how much to weld a head? Quote

Gav how much to weld a head? To get the chambers and injector ports welded up and then then required work on each chamber and valve seats etc. (grinding and cc'ing) by someone who knows what they are doing you are looking at around $1000. TOO60Z Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 Sounds a bit cheap does that include hardening/normalising the casting, pressure test, machining all faces then full service? Quote

I would speak to Les Collins racing, I can't say how much exactly because I've never actually had it all done. My E31 cylinder head repairs (required some welding) along with new valve seats, reground camshaft, water blasting etc.. cost me around $2k all up. But E31's are getting so hard to find now that it was worth saving in my opinion. These E88's make sense if you can get them at the right price. I believe they might not quite have the same short side radius as a P90 though? But I tend to view them as the high compression version of a P90. But the real value / desire is for SC racing folks. Administrators gav240z Posted March 12, 2018 Administrators Posted March 12, 2018 I have no immediate plans to race any of my cars at this stage. But if I was going to race in any category it would be SC I think. I'll be happy to just get my cars on the road again at this stage. OdinZ 1 Quote
