Hey Folks,

I decided to sign up today, not 100% sure I'll make this happen yet, but figured the first step is entry.

I did a similar Rally across Morocco a few years ago and it was 1 of the most fun things you could do with a cheap old banger/bomb.

Turns out 4WD's are banned... So no more Nissan Patrol or Toyota Landcruiser from the 80s.. In which case I'm thinking something agricultural with spares everywhere and cheap like a VN / VP / VR Commodore?

73 Valiant.

Would be the worst val around for under a grand!

Hi

A mate and I have been tossing around the idea of doing this.

Agree that an old Commo or Falcon would be a good and sensible choice.

A more adventurous one would be an old Benz or Volvo.

Having said that, if I was to do it would probably go with an old Camry wagon ;)

Cheers

Me and 2 Mates are about to do something similar for my bucks party but not an organised event. We've booked one way tickets from Gold Coast to Adelaide. Buying a car for under $1000 and driving home along the coast via the great ocean road and probably sell it when we get home. Fly out in 16 days, haven't picked a car yet but can't wait!

Maybe we can sell it to you Gav, that way you know its tried and tested for a long trip and not far from the Brisbane start line  ;)

I looked to do the SB rally a while back and it is a great fundraiser and outcome - looks a lot of fun. I stayed with trek4kidz (www.trek4kidz.com) as the SB rally loses the car (or you buy it back) at the end. We are off again at the end of August for the trek week rally - Nowra to Renmark, then Renmark to Forbes and supporting Starlight Foundation. Using the zed (www.car240.com.au) and really looking forward to it. There are similar events throughout the year, so jump in to any of them, you wont regret it.

Thanks, am looking forward to do it again. All my sponsors are on board again and added another one so aiming for a good result for the Starlight Foundation again.  Re the zed, has been a long time happening due to work and other commitments, and still putting it together (this weekend and next to finish) but all sorted, straight,m repainted and prepped. Hopefully with a few days and late nights will be ready for the 19th scrutineering and 20th start at Nowra.
