ol_skl_jp Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Hey guys i want to invest in some illuminas. I know some of the guys on here use them. Just a few questions, does it really improve comfort and with a turn of a screwdriver turn the car into a cornering machine . I found these on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=005&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=150237752759&rd=1 which i think is a really good price, but im comparing to MSA. Do they sell them here in OZ? Any members experiances with the illuminas would be greatly appriciated Quote
620Z Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 I have a set of Koni adjustable shockers. They are externally adjustable from the top of the shock towers. Easy to adjust and definately feel the difference when you wind them up. Keep relatively soft on the road and firm for the track. I presume these are the same style. What spring rates are the coils? I don't know the brand so not sure how they perform. The front shockers should be shortened in length to allow for lowering of the car then you will avoid bottoming out the shockers and blowing them to pieces. Ask them a few questions first to clarrify and read some ebay sales results on the same item. Quote
mossy Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 I can't comment on how good the shocks are as I haven't installed them yet but I just bought some illuminas from this seller and they arrived within 2 weeks. Have a look at this thread on Hybridz regarding the springs. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=121496 Quote
luvemfast Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 I have Illumina's in the front and normal Hp's in the rear of my 280ZX(2 seater), lowered 40mm on King Springs. I haven't done much driving in it since they were fitted. I'm hoping to have my car back on the road this weekend as it has been up on blocks for a few weeks while I replace all the steering components. I got mine from HybridZ in the USA. Since found them a little cheaper (can't remember where though), but happy with service I got. I can let you know what I think of them soon. Simon Quote
ol_skl_jp Posted April 23, 2008 Author Posted April 23, 2008 Cheers guys theres a bit more reading before i purchase it. Mossy do you live in melb? When are you planing on fitting them? Cheers Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted April 23, 2008 Administrators Posted April 23, 2008 I have Tokico Illuminas, you will definately feel a difference on a setting of 4-5 compared with 2. I set mine on 2 for the street, otherwise its a very rough ride. Having a firm set of seats helped alot too. Before I put Recaro's in it was alot less comfortable. First night I had the car out was a Dandenong Mountain cruise with Lurch and a few other Viczcar.com members. They made an amazing difference to my worn out and shot Koni's. Very firm ride, but much better handling. Quote
ol_skl_jp Posted April 23, 2008 Author Posted April 23, 2008 Gav are you using the tokico springs? right now that is what im concerned about as mentioned in hybridZ Cheers Sach Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted April 23, 2008 Administrators Posted April 23, 2008 Gav are you using the tokico springs? right now that is what im concerned about as mentioned in hybridZ Cheers Sach No I'm running King Springs (unknown rates). I plan on changing them. I'd recommend buying the kit of Tokico Shocks and Springs as its properly set up for those rates shocks, plus I believe they are a variable spring rate. Quote
PZG302 Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 The Illuminas are a good shock, and for local supply try Warren at All Z parts in Hornsby Sydney. I used them in the circuit car for a few seasons until they wore out, set on 5 for dry and backed off to 2 or 3 for the wet. Springs used were Lovells and the rate around 400 lb/inch. I have dropped the spring seat to get the ride height I need so I can get full travel on the spring and shock. I now have Koni adjustables in the car and am still playing to get the best setting for different applications, ie hill climbs I set the car up much softer than on the circuit. Quote
Toecutter Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 I've been looking at these and thinking about buying the Illuminas over the coming weeks. My issue is I have a 74 260 2 seater (series 1) with the lower strutt housing in the rear. So do they offer a series 1 set? Surely theres a diff? Sulio Quote

ZED660 Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 If you are looking to buy shocks from the US including Illuminas, try this site they are usually one of the cheapest around and speaking from experience their service is very good. http://www.shox.com/ Quote
Toecutter Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Cool thanks, I've sent them a RFQ. E-bay has them offered at USD$413, not sure how much for delivery waiting for that question to be answered. Sulio Quote
