GongZ Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 Hi all Have we got anyone attending the Nationals (http://ndn17.com)? I'm really keen to go but terrible timing over Easter weekend. Ben Just re-posting the link because the question mark broke it http://ndn17.com/ Quote
260DET Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 Having the track events at Sydney Motorsport Park is a big plus, is anyone from Q other than Scott heading down? The event has received virtually no internet publicity at all so it's a bit under the radar. Quote
d3c0y Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Wow the marketing is so good this is the first i've heard of it. Quote
Moderators PB260Z Posted February 9, 2017 Moderators Posted February 9, 2017 Wow the marketing is so good this is the first i've heard of it. I thought I must have been living under rock, but No, there is at least one other who has not heard of this event. Cheers PB d3c0y 1 Quote
scott Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 i only heard about it last week through someone at sdc. i havent seen any advertising for it either Quote
BennyZed Posted February 9, 2017 Author Posted February 9, 2017 I somehow stumbled across it a few weeks ago and registered for updates. Easter weekend means I'm 50/50. Quote
260DET Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Easter is the usual long weekend for nationals, allows for travelling time. Of course you have to be keen to make it a priority Anyway, reading the little info that is available, the track events may not be worth it for me eg a normal sprint day there gives you 5 or 6 runs @ 8 minutes a time. d3c0y 1 Quote
Chassis254 Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 I will be there in my early girl. I am hoping a few other SA guys will go as well. gav240z 1 Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted February 23, 2017 Administrators Posted February 23, 2017 Yeah promotion of this event has been a little lack-luster. Subscribing to thread. Quote
1600dave Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 (edited) Anyway, reading the little info that is available, the track events may not be worth it for me eg a normal sprint day there gives you 5 or 6 runs @ 8 minutes a time. The track event will be pretty much the same format as the NSW supersprint rounds - 5 groups / 8-10 minutes per run. There is a "cruise" planned when the normal lunch break is on where cars other than those competing can do a few laps (at a "sensible" speed...). Turn 1 at Eastern Creek on the GP circuit is right up there with any other corner at any other track in Australia. Personally, I find it the scariest corner on any track I've been on (with the possible exception of most corners at Lakeside......). Get in and give it a go and see what you think ! And for a bit of a change, the wet skidpan is running as well for some sideways handbrake motorkhana fun ! Edited February 23, 2017 by 1600dave 260DET 1 Quote
Riceburner Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 8-10min session on the track, that's a bit poo! I would've thought 15-20mins would be the norm. Sounds more like a time attack event, 1 out lap and 1 flyer. Quote
1600dave Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 10 mins on the GP circuit should be enough time for an outlap and 3-4 timed laps. Its a shorter / quicker lap than, say, Phillip Island. The NSW Supersprint Championship specifies "minimum of 3 laps per session". Yes it is a short-ish period but the challenge is to post one good, fast lap in the time you have. Not sure if its just me / my car setup / tyres / fatigue / inability to concentrate for longer than 10 mins / something else, but I always find that my 2nd or 3rd lap is quickest - no matter how much longer I stay on the track or how much harder I think I'm pushing, I can't better the times I set in those first few laps. 260DET Posted February 23, 2017 Posted February 23, 2017 Thanks for the info Dave, 8 to 10 minutes is good as it's basically time attack not racing. Quote
1600dave Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 (edited) May be slightly different, but that is the current intention as I understand it. Time attack is just a glorified supersprint with less on-track traffic and more hype anyway...... Edited February 24, 2017 by 1600dave Quote
dat2kman Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 Thanks for the info Dave, 8 to 10 minutes is good as it's basically time attack not racing. You just dont want to be embarrased with all the "gunna be da fastest" talk! Btw time attack is purely one single flyer, after 1-2 warm ups, at least in a Supersprint, you can pretend you'll be racing,,,,,,, Quote
260DET Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 Nothing beats the racing you used to do Jason, in those old putt putt cars that would get owned by any decent road car these days Quote
Moderators PB260Z Posted February 24, 2017 Moderators Posted February 24, 2017 (edited) Nothing beats the racing you used to do Jason, in those old putt putt cars that would get owned by any decent road car these days Plenty of fun to had in getting the most at any car (or bike) it is not always about absolute speed. dat2kman Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 Said old putt putt certainly nails your fire breathing highest hawspowah EllEss engined spurts seedan! 2.57's at Bathurst were we! ( cue excuses,,,,,) Ahh Richo, we all know you're a gun driver, and car builder too! You just HAVE to show everyone how, at NDN17 The track with the fastest corner, now, in the country! You make sure to nail them putt putt road cars, this time! ( Surfers Paradise used to be the fastest corner!) Quote
260DET Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 Me a gun driver? Lol, nah, my next Bathurst ambition is with the Z behaving itself to go through the Kink flat, without lifting. Might add though that the more powerful the car the more of a challenge it is to drive. Quote
1600dave Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 Kink at bathurst is easy. Come to Eastern Creek and try turn 1 ! Quote
dat2kman Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 He wont do it! Its too fast, and the ballet tutu will get messed up! Seriously, you should go, you wont get other opportunities to have a play in a relaxed surrounding. The cost road down and back is far quicker now as well. Quote
260DET Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 No one goes through turn 1 at EC flat you stirrers So what do I do? Stop work on the project car and fix up the 280ZX? We'll see but sprints are on there regularly. Sounds like there are not many takers for these Nats from Q, maybe Challenge Bathurst is the new nationals. Quote
