Bolts Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 I would enter this in a heart beat! Also there doesn't seem to be a problem with entering priceless classics. Here's a link to the setup for a 240z which competed. ( not the one shown) http://www.carscoops.com/2016/05/whats-it-like-to-drive-jacked-up-datsun.html gav240z 1 Quote
PZG302 Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 A guy up here in Queensland is doing the rally again with his brother in an old Volvo, from the facepalm post they seem to have enjoyed the first time so much they are back again. Not sure what the total costs would be, but wouldn't be real cheap, but I reckon worth it for a once in a lifetime experience. Quote

Administrators gav240z Posted June 12, 2016 Author Administrators Posted June 12, 2016 I once drove from London -> Paris -> Spain - Morocco - but the car was a banger we got for 200 GBP on eBay UK. It was 1 of the best things I've done. My sister kept going all the way down through Africa in it until the gearbox nearly fell out of it and it got a punctured sump. They managed to get it repaired a few times before giving up on it somewhere in Ghana I think. It's 1 of the most fun experiences you can have, and driving through places you really get to see all the hidden stuff and meet people who don't usually see a lot of tourists. I'd love to do it in an S30Z that would be a dream! Bolts and locklock 2 Quote

AndBir Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 At the half way point Australian entries are running 1st, 4th, 6th and 7th with 240Zs in 2nd, 5th and 6th positions - still a long way to go though. Quote
1600dave Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 Not sure if urban myth or not, but I read somewhere that Gerry Crown in the P76 had to get his navigator to drive some sections of a previous Peking to Paris as the Chinese govt deemed him too old to drive. Quote
260DET Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 The Gainers are having a bit of a rough drive this year, broke a front compression rod, got back up to second but now back down to 6th. That Crown bloke is amazing for his age, there's hope for all of us Quote

Yep, apparently in the event in 2010: https://www.smh.com.au/sport/motorsport/board-game-king-rolls-genteel-race-rivals-in-aussie-battlers-car-20101017-16p51.html "......The roads in Kazakhstan were like they had been bombed. They just build them and that's it. They don't have the money to maintain them,'' he said. Mr Crown, 78, the oldest driver in this year's race, started the event in the passenger's seat after Chinese authorities refused to give him a driver's licence......" EDIT : Found this in the regs (link in post below): 8.2 Any crew member over the age of 70 years on 1 June 2019 may not be permitted to drive on the Chinese sections of the route. With the cost of an entry into the rally being ~$100,000 and then the prep work to have your car improved so it would survive the rough roads in the first 18 days it looks like this is a dream for most of us : https://peking2pariscar96.files.wordpress.com/2019/05/regulations-peking-to-paris-2019.pdf Quote
