73 240Z Sold

Just picked up 2 240z's and only have room for 1 so this 1 is for sale. Make no mistake this is very rusty some accident damage and is missing a lot of parts. car is located in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Not sure on a price yet so will think over on the weekend, feel free to PM any questions though.

Chassis number will reveal all.. Remember back in the day many owners upgraded to 260z rear lights. 240z was old hat back then...

 

What is the chassis no on this?

 

Hope the other s30z looked better than this 1? ;)

The inner door stampings are 240z, as is the dash, no indicators on front guards, small brake booster and the fuses mounted on the console, even the centre number plate thing between the tailights is 240z.

Yep its a 240, I think the chassis is 101508, someone has put 260 tailights in there. The other 1 is rusty as well with front and rear damage, chassis is in the 900's, interesting that the 900's chassis has holes for fender mirrors, an early console but no vents in the hatch, it has the qtr panel vents. Just thought I'd put this one out there first to see if anyone is interested otherwise I'll cut it up and sell the parts.

 

I knew what I was buying but waking up this morning a little buyers remorse has set in remembing how hard it was to restore my orange zed  ;D

Mark it's a 71 240z, was it 907 Green originally? It looks like it. The fender mirrors were used up until late 71. If you look at the early girl bingo thread you'll see a Blue 240z (HS30 01428) with fender mirrors remounted on the doors. So I expect it was toward the end of the 71 model life that the fender mirrors were used in Australia. The early console is due to the 71A transmission and the rear vents in the hatch were removed after HS30 00500.

 

In terms of buyers remorse, that will wear off after you get a couple more paychecks. Then you'll remember it's not a sprint, it's a marathon and there is no rush to do it. You have the space and you've done it once before.

 

Shame about the accident damage.

 

However early 240z's like this are quite rare now, if you read the Early Girl Bingo thread it's my estimate that maybe 300-350 (maybe 400 at a pinch) of all 240z's delivered to Australia still exist.

 

If you can share the exact chassis numbers of both I'll add the early one to the Early Girl Bingo thread and if we at least have a record of the 73 we can keep track of it's situation in future.

 

PS: I recall seeing your car and you telling me "never again" in terms of restoring an S30z. LOL.... I've said similar things to myself. It's easy to forget how much work it is, but it is rewarding and satisfying.

No paychecks for me Gav, I'm a stay at home dad, was easy to spend while doing the orange zed when I was working...and no kids!!  I remember saying never again too, and it has stayed there too just in the back of my mind.   ;D   The early one is chassis 918 the 73 is 101508.

It's a shame HS30 00918 wasn't painted Kalahari Tan, that would have been a cool coincidence if they did that! :).

 

Ah yes I forgot you're stay at home dad now, at least if the little ones can be put to sleep you can put time into it. It seems in life if you have time you have no money and when you have money you have no time.

 

Thanks for the details on it. Look forward to seeing the project progress. Even if it is ever so slowly...

By the way I may have a windscreen scuttle panel I can donate your way... Will have to double-check but if you're missing 1 I'd be happy to give you 1 (just need to double-check I won't need it myself first).

 

By the way perhaps we can split the thread? But I'd love to hear about how you found these 2 at some point.

Thanks Gav but i have a scuttle already. The plan was to restore one over a long period and sell it to pay off some off the mortgage, if that didn't happen then cut them up for parts to make some money, either way I'm not fussed. As I'm not working I was thinking of ways to make a bit of cash on the side (the roofs should be worth some decent money?) 

 

I wouldnt be opposed to selling them both together as long as the price is right. (ie, I make some cash!)

Ahh that's a shame, would make restoration more worthwhile, although matching numbers is perhaps not that important if you consider that some markets didn't have the engine number stamped on the ID plate.
