260DET Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Panel shop owner has a 240Z he wants to sell, apparently it's pretty good body wise but I've yet to check this myself. He is thinking of doing some value adding by painting it but I'm not so sure, the market seems to be split between those wanting a nice runner or a restoration project. Minimum price as is, unregistered, would be in the low 20's. What do you all think, as is or new paint? Quote
d3c0y Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Surely you want something with half decent paint for the $20s probably even registered to be honest. I'm saying teens for project that needs paint and unregistered. Quote
PeterAllen Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Like houses, the days of 'handyman specials' are, by and large, long gone. People now prefer debt to a dream. While a significant number of members here might be interested, particularly in something needing mechanical repair, there is a much larger market for a freshly painted car - if it's well done! Quote
dat240z Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 I agree with the above comments and sentiments 100%. There isn't much of a middle ground Quote
oldmates260z Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 +1 for sub $20k without paint, +$20k with paint....if he's a panel guy hopefully he would not put too much on for paint Quote

260DET Posted July 31, 2015 Author Posted July 31, 2015 Thanks blokes, so what colour then? Blue? Quote
theremm Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Thanks blokes, so what colour then? Blue? As long as it is original Nissan paint code for the 240z should be safe whichever way Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted July 31, 2015 Administrators Posted July 31, 2015 I personally would much prefer to know what I'm buying and buy a car that hasn't been painted recently than buy 1 with a fresh lick of paint and wonder how much bog is under it. That's me though.... I get suspect when people sell cars with fresh paint jobs. Quote
260DET Posted July 31, 2015 Author Posted July 31, 2015 That's one of the reasons for the question Gav, I guess as PB260Z said plenty of before and during painting pics would be the go. Quote

Gidday Pictures that tell the story, and show the repairs performed can provide fantastic reassurance to a potential purchaser that the work is of a quality that is acceptable to them. The car I am buying off Lurch is an example of that. Thanks blokes, so what colour then? Blue? I am big fan of Blue, but what is the original colour of the car ? Another consideration is what colour is the most popular ? Quote
d3c0y Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 There is a reason that most 240Zs are red! If it's to sell it makes choice easier. That or the factory colour for the car if it's not a crap colour. Most people, particularly the ones that are paying $20k+ (not you lot) want get in turn key fun. Quote
