Just a quick one. I have a 1974 260Z that has a standard RB25DT engine fitted. It is registered (just got the pink slip and paid for 6 months). The car is pretty ordinary. It needs paint. It needs to get the rumble out of the tailshaft. Apart from that it's mechanically pretty good. Most of the bits that wear out have been replaced. Does anyone have any idea what this car is worth? I'm reluctant to spend money on a paint job etc if it doesn't make much difference to the worth of the car. If anyone is interested I can be contacted on 0414496972. I'll try and take some photos and make a list of the good the bad the not so ugly. BTW the car is in Sydney NSW. If I sound ignorant perhaps I am. It's my son's car but registered in my name. He asked me to sell it.

Hi Graham

Fresh paint on the car could actually be a negative as people would suspect rust etc hidden beneath the nice new paint. These cars are very very prone to rust and it usually a bit like an iceberg, ie what you can see is only the start of it.

Insofar as a value hard to say without knowing about the rust or lack of rust.

Detailed photos would certainly help to work out a value

Cheers

PB

If the paint is rough and the interior is rough.

I would think with the 25 fitted with a roadworthy and mod plate / engineers report , you could get 7 or 8 thousand for it.

Being a 2+2 detracts a lot from the price.

no mention of engineering though.

The blurb on blogspot does state that it is blueslipped and the engine is on the rego papers.

Engineering: I ran all this past the RTA at the time. Probably because the engine is the same size as the original I'm not sure but they told me to get a blue slip with all the new engine details. I did this. The motor however does meet all the environmental requirements for a car with that motor as original. (A Nissan Skyline 1991). The exhaust system is all new with catalytic converter.

I hope the new owner is around here, I would love to see what happens to it. I would have loved to purchase it but I was just a bit low on funds. Congratulations on the sale though :)

Sorry, I can't see why a 2+2 would be worth less than a 2 seater other than a matter of opinion or bias, the market in my opinion does not reflect a lesser difference however some asking prices do, selling prices are very similar from where I sit. Lynton

Opinion and bias has everything to do with it, more people want 2 seaters than 2+2s and there are less of them. I can't think of any sports car where the 2 seater version isn't more highly regarded than it's 4 seat counterparts.

It's to do with the people that buy them too. Most people buying a classic sports car don't need them to be practical and I will bet that most 2+2 owners on here own them because they are cheaper. I owned a 2+2 as my first zed and i bought it because i wanted to be able to drive my mates around when I was 17. When I got to know zeds all I wanted was a 240Z.

If you like 2+2s better, good for you you didn't have to pay as much.

I would have to agree with decoy. I own a 2+2 and my reason for it getting it was because my daughter was just born (looked at  it 11 days after she was born) and I have visions of taking her to car shows in it one day when its finished and have it as something we can both enjoy. I dream of owning a 2 seater and one day that will happen but my vision for the 2 seater is more the car for me to drive and have the time to myself.

:( Well the Ebay auction turned out a fizzer. The highest bidder called to make arrangements to pay and then disappeared off the planet. Doesn't answer messages or his phone. So by the time I gave up on him I got in touch with the second bidder. He bought another car in meantime. The third bidder didn't respond. So I'm a bit pissed off. I have re-listed the car on Ebay again but I'm wary of anyone who bids without seeing the car.

OK so the Ebay buyer was a fraud. I can't understand why people bid when they have no money or no intention of buying. So the car is still for sale. Anyone who can put $7500 on the table gets the car. You can message me on 0414496972. But please only if you seriously want a car like this and have the money.
