44014 Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Z engine , Z seats , Z gearbox , Z steering wheel , Z wheels .... But it is not a Z. http://www.japan-vintage.com/stocklist/detail.php?stri=37345&stci=1090 Quote
dat2kman Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Mechanically much cheaper, in Japan, than having to manage with Mercedes Benz mechanicals. Rims are Falcon 5 stud. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted March 14, 2015 Administrators Posted March 14, 2015 Now that's a Mercedes I'd like to own haha. Quote
gilltech Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 There is a tenuous connection between the two - the L series engine in SOHC 4-banger form came to Nissan from Prince Auto, who supposedly obtained the design from Mercedes when the latter went to DOHC form. Something like that, so I've read. I have heard of people putting a Mercedes engine in a Zed, but not the other way around. Fits nicely, as you'd expect. Quote
Gyra Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Cool! But even cooler is the datsun dc3 for sale on that site... Can anyone translate? Quote
theremm Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Awesome!! Yeah I read that the L series block design was based on a Mercedes Benz engine Quote
zzzzed Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 There was an old 64 merc for sale here in australia a year or so ago. It was also sporting an l28. Quote

I believe its more like Prince had a licence to use certain Mercedes Benz Patents, not whole engine designs. I.e, Prince weren't producing copies MB engines under licence. Nissan later varied the designs of their new L series engines so that no patent licensing from MB was required. Put a price tag of $60k on it and deduct the tax loss. What more could you want? Quote
gilltech Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Put a price tag of $60k on it and deduct the tax loss. So how might that work in a dealer's favour? Double the purchase price? I don't understand tax write-offs if that's what it is. Quote
44014 Posted March 18, 2015 Author Posted March 18, 2015 You make the car a depreciating asset. Then use the depreciation as a business loss to reduce the amount of tax you pay. Eventually you get a free car. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted March 18, 2015 Administrators Posted March 18, 2015 I was having a bit of a joke but.. "You get a car, you get a car, you get a car, you get a car!" haha. Quote
