hello fellow zed fans, I am a new club member and have been a zed fan for about 3 years as im am only almost 17! yes growing old I know  ;) I own a 1975 260z with the standard l26. my zed isn't yet on the road. Its fairly neat but it isn't what I want it to look like. I do like the standard 240-260zs with the front lip but im thinking of making mine look a little more tough. front lip, duck tail spoiler and very broad flares with deep dish rims to go along 8) bringing out the "muscle" in this slim muscle car.

id like if people could share their 240 and 260s that fit to this description to get some ideas. colour recommendations would be great but I think I have that worked out. I was thinking white with black details.

I apologise if i have done this wrong or posted it in the wrong topic, somewhere near Antarctica ;) if i have please help.

i haven't found anything on the app store but there is a phone app for auszcar?

G'day!

There's a couple on here that are down your way!

Watch out for that Hodgo fella,,,,,

Nah, he's good, keep an eye out for any Tassie get togethers, you guys are blessed with some good roads.

Hi Mate,

Search in google images "240z stance" and that should bring up a lot of cars that fit your description. I'd embed some pictures directly on here but this forum has a funny habit of not being able to resize pictures hyperlinked.

While that sort of look isn't my cup of tea personally it's great to see a young bloke into classic cars & I'm of the attitude of "it's your car do what you want with it"

Plenty of info on here & a lot of members are a wealth of knowledge, just gotta trawl through the forums to dig out the info you need

Thank you Yo-Yo and dat2kman.

I do understand why people don't like to change the zed and that's fine that look great how they are. But I'm not planning to change it very much just the comon lip and the flares maybe the spoiler but I'm not sure?

Thank you I'll search that up!

Welcome, before you take angle grinder to your fenders consider that a non-flared S30z can look quite stunning also. Whilst the flares look cool you may change your mind in a few years time and wish to a retain a more 'original' look. It all depends on what floats your boat, upload a picture of your Z so we can all gawk at it. :).

No Viczcar app yet, but we might have a more mobile friendly theme in future.

No flares ;)

I had a similar state of mind 12 months ago when I was 22 and searching for a 240. After just missing out on closing the deal on one I was looking at I finally bought a different 240 only 6 months later; and I must say I was surprised how during only that 6 month period my thoughts regarding flares completely changed (and that was before even purchasing the car!). Moral of story, there will come a time when your likes and dislikes change, and with something like flares this is in many ways an almost 'irreversible' decision...

In my opinion, cars without flares will hold their value better and will always appear to a wider scope of potential future buyers, as well as onlookers who just appreciate the car. Not to mention by having flares you will also need very wide wheels so that it looks good, which in turn means stiff coilovers and a very unpleasant ride for the large majority of street conditions...obviously I prefer without lol.

Lol stiff coilovers for wide wheels? How so, Wats fit with stock suspension. Why do you want crappy soft factory suspension anyway? Onlookers don't appreciate flared cars? Red flared 260Z in the forsale section can only get $45k?

You guys and your flare hate, they were a factory option at the end of the day.

Not hating, just hard to reverse like a sunroof. So better be sure it is what you want before doing it is all I'm saying. I just wish people who did the flares went the whole way and did the ZG conversion for the 'proper' factory look. :)

Each to their own, some people like to restore an old car, some people like to modify their car. Personally I like S30s with wide wheels and flares, and that's why my car has them :)

OP requested pics of said description, and I happen to have a pic of a car that did so...

With the reproduction panels you can now get, reversing flares isnt a big deal anymore. I repaired my 260z's 2-seater 'cut' gaurds using a section cut out of a 2+2. Not any harder to do than the usual rust repair section. Actually it was easier and nowhere near as difficult as fixing a roof. On my 240z i kept the peices i removed for flares and will sell it with the car if i ever do.

As Phillay says 'each to their own' otherwise this forum would be 100 people with  near identical cars.

I'm quickly discovering Z-G conversions are expensive and hard. Parts alone are nearly $2k, then add on painting and finishing and that's just for the nose with headlight covers! Are watanaabes allowed in the proper look? Because i sure as hell arent going to put cheese cutters and hubcaps on it!

As stated no where near as bad as a sunroof!

Here is my flared wat'd Z-G contribution:

We already all put the same wheels on them lol.

Yeah that car looks pretty good Jake. Do you think it would scrub the tyres much??

I guess by colour coding the flares you can almost imagine they aren't there. ;)

i would disagree, similar style wheels would be more accurate. rotas, superlites, wats are different  8)

With base adjustable coilovers you can set them so that the shock bottoms out just before it scrubs, that is the whole point of them. A circuit car only needs 50mm of compression travel for the suspension to work properly with the appropriate spring rate installed, so no I don't think the tyres would scrub. With the shape of the flares, the right offset wheels and slight stretch on the tyre, it all is the same shape so you can get the tyre right up under the flare. The car I have done actually was touching the cut in the guard before it touched the flare, so another part is test fitting and trimming as much metal out, while keeping the flare mounted as low as possible.

My car will be equally as low as that one when it is done.

Now that otomoto are selling them there seem to be  a lot of real ones going around unfortunately :/ I remember a time when you just didnt see flares and genuine wats on zed driving around.

Thank you everyone for your replies and infornation! If I owned a 240z not a 260z I wouldn't touch those guards! Id like to flare my 260 it without damaging the panels but I'm not too fussed with the flares. You have to have a good paint job to suit them though! Has anyone seen the itàlian flag styled zed?

Hello Jackson,

I emailed you some time back when you had a add on gumtree but I have even forgot what it was for.... maybe wheels.

I'm in Tassie as well and not long joined this site as well, there is a lot of good and useful info on here though just be careful you don't get swamped with information overload as Rome was not built in a day and you have to remember most the guys on here have taken or taking years in getting there car to where they are now and want them to be. And at the end of it all you still want a car that's going to be a pleasure to drive and not a pig. Have some goals and slowly work towards them, sometimes less is more.
