DOOM Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I would like to buy a full set of L28 headbolts and washers. I would prefer them in good condition not too rusty, non damaged threads etc. Im located in South Australia, I'm happy to pay for shipping. Quote
ZED83 Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 I have a full set! Great condition been kept in a plastic box for 2 years, left the oil on them so no rust. Only thing is missing 2 washers! If your intrested let me know ;-) Quote
peter t Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Just threw a full set in the bin. Better to use new ones than risk a bolt snapping off. SWM has standard and ARP sets in stock. Quote

theremm Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Try Nissan; you would be surprised, they can till get a hold of most genuine parts Aus wide or from Japan. Albeit you pay a slight premium Quote

Albeit you pay a slight premium Yeah I did end up asking Nissan, and they were after $2.15 per washer, $13.25 per long bolt and $18 per short bolt. Thats a total of $258.35 I mean you may aswell go ARP headstuds. Quote

Administrators gav240z Posted January 7, 2015 Administrators Posted January 7, 2015 I've got a set you can have for free from the L28 out of my gold car, but I wouldn't use second hand ones myself. Cheap insurance getting new ones. Quote
dat2kman Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 If you know their history, ie factory torque settings only, and they are clean, rust free etc, they are perfectly fine! The damn things are made of very high quality steel, ie, proper Japanese steel, and are over-engineered to billy-o. It's when ham fisted lunkheads torque them to 30+ ft/lbs, ver recommended max, that they may elongate,,,,, by 1 or 2 thou!!! Yield strain to failure is way way higher. You are not boosting it, you are not revving the tits out of it, re-use them. If anything, the alloy head, under the hardened headbolt washers, will show very very slight deformation. Thouroughly clean out holes, and a little oil on threads, and under head of bolt, will ensure more accurate torque settings.. Dont be hamfisted, another 5ft/lb wont hurt. Oh, and use a new head gasket, plus for better sealing skim both head and block to a surface finish of 40RA ( machining shop talk, they will know, if they dont, go elsewhere) Quote

Cheap insurance getting new ones. Thanks Gav, but Zed83 already donated a set to me which was very nice of him. Thanks for your generosity and advice. The L28 im rebuilding has been into the machine shop and will get a new gasket set the engine will be N/A amd fairly standard. Quote
