kck Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 In losing the ongoing battle to keep the rust at bay in my 76 260, purchased and freshly painted two doors.Yay so excited. My hubby and another mechanically minded mate removed the old doors, struggled fought and swore to get the new you beaut passenger one on and Viola' Crap! Door doesn't shut! Didn't realise some silly person changed the design half way through the year. Mine is a March model. So cut out part of the door arch and now have it permanently closed with a ratchet strap. Any brilliant ideas would be greatly appreciated. Sunday drives arent as cool as they used to be when one of us has to climb over centre console to the passenger seat Quote
Sirpent Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 In the words of another famous Queenslander "Please Explain?" Sorry but I read that a dozen times and Im still trying to connect the dots. Quote

kck Posted December 25, 2013 Author Posted December 25, 2013 No havent been on the egg nog Apparently there are slight differences with early and late 260z models. They are a slightly different shape and the strikers are totally different. Maybe I am wrong and was sold wrong model doors altogether which would have been an expensive mistake. Quote
zzzzed Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Ahhh so you are trying to put 74/75 doors on a 76. Yes they won't fit. The strikers are completely different and the shape of both the door shell and door jam are also different. I have a pair of 76 doors I could have done a straight swap if you was closer, as I am after. Set of 74 doors. Quote
Sirpent Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 To my knowledge there were only a handful of design changes in the 2 door door versions between the 240z throught to the last of the 260z's First was inner door frame mount points for the pull handle and trim mounts between the 240z and 260Z Second was the introducion of a revised lock mechanism in the last of the 2 door 260Z's built towards the end of 1977 when they were last sold in Australia Otherwise, the outer skins and the actual door frames retained the same stampings up until that lock revision meaning they are all identical. Could it be one of the following that has caused this problem. A: The slam pillar on your Z was modified (Rust repair section) previously which altered the profile? B: The door you have hung was modified (Rust repair section) previously which altered the profile? Cheers John Quote
zzzzed Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Not sure if the op has a 2 seater or a 2+2. But I have a 74 and a 76 2+2 sitting here and both the latches , door frames and door James are different from one and other. Quote
zzzzed Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 I am in Murray bridge post code 5253. Doors have minor rust. Very easy fix. But arleast they will fit properly I can take photos if you like just to make sure they are what you are after. Quote
Six_Shooter Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Why wouldn't you just put the old door on once you realized there was a difference, instead of cutting the door jam? Also there is definitely a difference between early and late S30s, when it comes to the latch/striker mechanism. 240Z/early 280/60Z: Late 280/60Z, if you look closely at the latch area of the door you can see that it uses a different latch type than the earlier S30: Quote
zzzzed Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 The doors I have are like the lbottom pic. I need the ones in the top pic Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted December 25, 2013 Moderators Posted December 25, 2013 I was going to say it'll be good for everyone to post pics so there is no confusion.. Latches changed after October 76. Many different Nissan's use that later catch. Quote
Agno Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 My 75 has the later latch mechanism as well Quote
nizm0zed Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 My May/75 has the early latches. Surely somewhere (probably nowhere we can access it) is a definitive cross over date/chassis no. for genuine ADM vehicles? But then as mentioned previously that can go out the window depending on repairs over the years... Quote
