Hi guys I haven't posted for a while but OCD is starting up again. What I wanted to know is whether there is a great difference in driveability and performance between the pre 1976 ADR coupes and 2+2 and those made after. Also as there were only 98 1977 coupes sold in Australia, how many of you have one.

I know at least one guy on here has a 77 Coupe. Emission gear post July 76, would be better if you can get a pre emission. Needed no emission gear on my 302 Cleveland Powered 1975 260Z. Flat top carbs are not favoured.

I wonder out of 98 1977 coupes how many have survived. In Sydney in the last 5 years I've seen a light green one for sale in the Hill District, and a light blue one in the Northern Beaches. Both were automatics and both had a bone white door trimming and velour seats.

I also know of a manual yellow coupe around Killara and a Silver automatic at Thornleigh area in last 10 years.

The reality on the road for general performance is nominal between a 2+2 & coupe however the feel of a later 260z with pollution gear on it feels like a slug choking as if it doesn't have enough oxygen. I have owned from new a 75 2 seater coupe which I sold in 83' & a 77 2+2 with all the pollution gear on it I have since put 240z carbs & electronic ignition with extractors & a 2.25 exhaust system, the difference is quite noticeable with a free-er revving motor substantially better fuel consumption and a great exhaust sound however if you go for an l28 fuel injected motor they are super smooth and a little more grunt from the 280, the series2 has the flat top pistons and is the best choice engine if you have that choice. Thanks Lynton much appreciated, incidently I'm interested in whether your 75 coupe had exhaust fume problems when it was new and was the problem there with the 77 2+2. Also at the time when you sold the 75 coupe did you sell it to get the 2+2 and what were your impressions of the 2 models at the time. What colours were the cars and did the 77 have air con. Thanks once again

Have a '77 two seater here. Very 70s color scheme... champagne gold with poo brown interior  ;D

Here's a list of colors for each year:

And here's a list of colors including pics of cars in that color:

Unfortunately doesn't list interior colors that could have gone with the 260z's.

Not sure what I'm gonna do about the emissions gear  as I'm preetty sure I'll need a full roadworthy... Meh, cross that bridge when I get to it.

Thanks Thriller, the colour and trim lists are very interesting. Would love to find an original late model with air. Also have seen one light blue 2 seater with a bone white vynyl roof but it was a 76.

Suprisingly there have been quite a few 77s pop up for sale and on the forums in the past few years. There are at least 4 in canberra that I know of.

Also checkout the Waz register website for listings.

You must judge potential cars by their condition and not what year it was made.

You know the best way to avoid the fumes? Keep the car well maintained.

Or drink a cup of concrete, it really isn't that bad.

duck tape on the rear hatch also helps ;D , my dec 77 2+2 was not the best with pollution gear added ( it actually failed the smog test )once disconnected it passed with flying colours much to the mechanics shock, once you put a good set of carbs on them they go dam well
