luvemfast Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 That's a pretty good price I don't know anything about Dellortos. Scoota's familiar with them, but can remember Peter having trouble tuning some? Quote
Retro Z Posted June 2, 2013 Author Posted June 2, 2013 I called the guy and he said they will need a full rebuild. So not really worth it now imo Quote
luvemfast Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 I called the guy and he said they will need a full rebuild. So not really worth it now imo I disagree. You'll more than likely need to rebuild whatever you buy! And that's a price that can't be beat If Dellortos are any good that is It's also a great way to learn how they work. Quote
Retro Z Posted June 2, 2013 Author Posted June 2, 2013 I agree about rebuilding but have found several new spanish Webers for not much more like the one i showed you on facebook the other day simon for $900?. I know not many people like webers but then seem appealing to me with the huge parts support etc. Will go have a chat to my local carb joint and see whats needed fir those dellortos and how much etc. Im pretty sure Agno has dellortos and he said Pete mac got it running good. Quote
luvemfast Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 I'm certainly not against Webers or Dellortos. They offer good value. Quote
Retro Z Posted June 2, 2013 Author Posted June 2, 2013 I'll keep you posted on what i decide to go Simon. I'll chat to the Carb specialist and see what they say about those dellortos might be a good buy afterall Quote
peter mc Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 The dellortos we had trouble with were 40mm alfa carbs , they are very different from 45 dellortos , you can still get parts for them and can be tuned very well some say there better than Weber's ,people are seared off them because there the forgotten carb , but there a fine carb if the tuner has some experience Quote

So if you say its good then its good! Whats your opinion on spanish made 45mm 152 webers? Ive seem several for sale at a good price. And would it be better to buy the kit from weber that is apparently jetted to suit Z cars L-6? Or other carb kits that came off an L-6? Or wouldn't it matter as we need to play around with jetts etc? Quote
peter mc Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 At cruse the 152 carbs are not good, at full throttle there fine , the 45 dell carbs are a better thing buy far , if its a road car rebuild the dell 45s Quote
adam Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Hey all, sorry for bumping up such an old thread, but I thought it would be good instead of creating a new one on the same topic. So, these ebay carb packages (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DATSUN-NISSAN-6CYL-240Z-260Z-TRIPLE-40-DCOE-WEBER-TYPE-CARB-CARBY-PACKAGE-CARBIE-/151367079809?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item233e2e5781&_uhb=1), has anyone actually purchased them? I'll be honest, the complete 'bolt in package' is the most appealing part of it all. I have seen people collect bits and pieces separately but it all seems a little daunting not knowing what exactly is required. I simply just want to buy a package where I know most, if not all of, what I need will be there. Getting back to these carbs on ebay, I notice they mention 'weber style' carbs, is this an issue? Am I better off sourcing the parts separately, linkages, etc? Ignoring the money factor in this case. I am running a basic modded L28, SUs I have read are more than ideal being easy to tune and whatnot, but after hearing a set of trumpets, I can't resist! What do people recommend if they're in the position of buying triple carbs? Edit: If not the ebay packages, how about the MSA packages? http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/classic17a07d/11-2990 Quote
Enzo Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Hi, I would be reluctant to buy these carbs. They say "Weber type replacement carb". These are not genuine Weber carbs. I think that they are an Asian copy. The manifold is Redline to make the package look appealing. Genuine carbs are from Weber Australia in Melbourne. Buyer Beware. David. Quote
WA240Z Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 For another $150.00 you can have the real thing (weber), well as close as it comes to the real thing these days. http://www.weberperformance.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=2_62&products_id=233 Personally I think I will still hold out for Mikuni or OER when I finally get to giving the engine a birthday, I like the idea of keeping to Japanese bolt on period performance mods. sydney mike Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I went for the Kameari intake kit: http://www.rhdjapan.com/kameari-intake-manifold-kit-l-type-l6-42mm.html and the three new 45 dcoe webers from weber performance melbourne: http://www.weberperformance.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=1_9&products_id=1 The kameari kit contains the bakelite spacers that alot of people recommend over soft mounts. I was wary of reading alot of people having problems (even for years!) of trying to get the 2nd hand set of triples they picked up for a bargain, then ended up spending more than what it would cost new to get them sorted and tuned. I did want to go Japanese with mikuni/OER but chose the webers for local technical support/parts availability. And they sound just as good , could not be happier. PS if you want OER: http://www.rhdjapan.com/oer-racing-carburetor-kit-45mm-wire-type-l-series.html Quote

Yep unfortunately I agree with Mikes comment, got a cheap and spent more in the long run sorting out the issues. Another option you might look at is the pierce manifolds. http://www.piercemanifolds.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=K659 Good luck Mick Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted August 1, 2014 Administrators Posted August 1, 2014 Those OER's on RHDJapan are a good price! Mikuni / Solex ones are available on Yahoo! Auctions - but the big ones 44 - 50 mm ones are very expensive! I still haven't driven a Z that runs Triples.... can't believe it. Quote
Retro Z Posted August 1, 2014 Author Posted August 1, 2014 I've never purchases from RHDjapan before but what would something like that cost to ship to Aus? Quote
sydney mike Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 I've never purchases from RHDjapan before but what would something like that cost to ship to Aus? & @ Gav, RHD are very easy to deal with and the prices seem ok but I must warn you that their displayed exchange rate and paypal's exchange rate are planets apart. The shipping for the intake kit and fuel rail IIRC was around $110 and less than a week. Here's another pic: Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted August 1, 2014 Administrators Posted August 1, 2014 Yeah my experience with RHDJapan is the same. The PayPal fee is a stinger and shipping is on the high side. Also exchange rate is pretty average. Otherwise they are good. Often cheaper than OEM dealers in AU. I speak from experience buying parts for the FD rx7. Quote
sydney mike Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Also worth mentioning that Ben @ OTOMOTO is a Kameari dealer so even if the stuff is not on his website I am sure he could get it in for you. I didn't know this before otherwise I would have asked him first. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted August 1, 2014 Administrators Posted August 1, 2014 Another option if you want Mikuni's would be to contact GreenleavesJapan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2g0prlRK_I on Ebay also http://www.ebay.com/usr/n916k717?_trksid=p2047675.l2559 http://www.gl2007.com/usa_kyusha.html Quote
adam Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Thanks for the suggestions and links, gents! Please, keep them coming. Research continues.. Quote
Retro Z Posted August 3, 2014 Author Posted August 3, 2014 Whatever you decide to purchase Adam let me know and i'll probably grab a kit aswell if it means we can get cheaper shipping or a better deal. I'm leaning towards the webers WA240Z posted- http://www.weberperformance.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=2_62&products_id=233 As it costs almost exactly the same as buying from the usa and its local. http://pages.ebay.com/motors/link/?nav=item.view&id=321457674578&alt=web I don't have the knowledge or patience to buy 2nd hand carbs, rebuild and chase parts etc..so a complete kit seems like a good thing to me. PS. The guys from procarb selling the 'weber-style carbs' on ebay claim that they are different and superior to the chinese copies and are equivalent of not better than genuine webers with quality internals..i'm sceptical as they said its made overseas and assembled and tested by them. For the sake of $150 id bet on the genuine webers Quote
Retro Z Posted August 3, 2014 Author Posted August 3, 2014 Topend also has a good deal aswell. I've sent through an enquiry asking what postage costs are to Melb for the 'deluxe kit' http://www.racetep.com/ztripdcoe.html Quote
chris240 Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Are you blokes mad?? The prices weberperformance are offering are close to equal that of most of the US west coast suppliers.. Shop locally and support aussie businesses ! Quote
