Administrators gav240z Posted December 28, 2011 Administrators Posted December 28, 2011 Hi Guys, I'll be in Melbourne from the 6th - 25th of February. It would be great to catch up with a few of you if possible and meet some new faces (but old forum friends ). I may also make it to other states NSW / QLD - but haven't planned that far ahead yet. Would like to see Uluru / Ayers Rock but again not sure how possible this will be. I was considering trying to get my 240z on the road, but not sure how feasible it will be for just 3 weeks? My step dad has been starting the car every so often for the past 4 years! - My plan was to: 1. Bleed to brakes - possibly replace the rear drums with caliper conversion 2. Drain fuel tank (the fuel is 4 years old) 3. Consider replacing rubber fuel lines 4. Replace spark plugs 5. Drain oil in sump and replace with fresh oil and filter 6. Step dad says air is still in tyres (I'm surprised about that) - Do tyres get flat spots from sitting that long? Should this be a concern? 6. Try and get temporary reg or Club Reg (CH Plates) - I want my mum to be able to take it out every so often - it's a waste having it just sit there. - However I'm not sure how feasible it is to get temporary insurance cover (Possibly 1 month only?) - If I got real enthusiastic 1. Fit Triple Mikuni's - I have in storage 2. Maybe fit bigger camshaft 3. Consider replacing gearbox 4. Do some minor bodywork But really my main goal is to just get her on the road and enjoy driving her for a couple of weeks while I'm back home and it's sunny! How I miss Brighton beach in summer and driving along in the Z. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted December 28, 2011 Moderators Posted December 28, 2011 That's great news.. I'd drain fuel as #1.. 4 year old fuel you'd be lucky if the car starts! Perhaps a small team effort to help install all the bits? I'd be in to give a hand. Quote
luvemfast Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Cam and triples workshop? Shouldn't take too long. Then off for a cruise? What side of town is the car? Quote
C.A.R. Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Rego/Club Permit will be the thing that will hold the process up, Gav. Quote
luvemfast Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Rego/Club Permit will be the thing that will hold the process up, Gav. Too true. Seems to be more and more rules coming into play. Like- "You must attend at least 6 club events to maintain club rego" Don't really get it, but not in a position to join the committee either. Quote
benny Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Gav you can put it on 2 day a week insurance with shannons for less then $40 a month with around $20000 of coverage, you should have insurance on it anyway incase the house went up in flames or someone nicked it!! Quote
luvemfast Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 I would have thought a laid up insurance cover would be under $200 a year? Quote
benny Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 laid up is less but it obviously cant be driven Quote

I told him fuel goes off after about 6 months of sitting so I was surprised he had managed to get it started myself. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted December 29, 2011 Author Administrators Posted December 29, 2011 Forgot to mention flush cooling system also. Quote

Triples would be awesome, but not sure I have the correct linkage set up for the Mikuni's. Also not sure how good they are yet, I bought them from the US many years ago and was told they were next to new, but would need an expert to give them a check over. I also have a big cam, but it might be a bit hot for my current engine specs. A milder 76 degree cam might be better? Quote

Yeah a bit difficult for me considering I live in Europe, but my mum might attend. I'd have to check with her to see if she would be ok with it. I know she always wanted a 240z when she was younger and enjoyed driving my old 240z. But this 240z is pretty loud and might draw some funny looks with an older woman behind the wheel haha. I would rather the car get driven though, than just sit there collecting dust. Quote
Agno Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 There are literally dozens of like minded clubs out there that would have less strict requirements if you want to get your car onto club rego asap. That is if you are willing to be a member of another club obviously Quote

Let's not make it unattractive or hard now shall we? Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted January 24, 2012 Author Administrators Posted January 24, 2012 Hi Guys, So time is getting closer and I am trying to plan a head a little here. In terms of spark plugs what do you think is the ideal plug for my car? I'm thinking: NGK BP6ES-11 My engine is: - 240z carbs - L28 (Flat Top Pistons) - E88 high comp head (early version) - From memory comp test is 250PSI in each cylinder! So high compression (11:1??) - Mild Cam profile - Electronic Ignition (ZX) I'm also going to need the following items: - New NGK leads (think it's worth using these they fit real well) - Fuel Filter - Oil Filter - Fuel hoses - Distributor cap - Distributor rotor button - Brake lines (may as well do front + rear) - any good suppliers for braided lines? I may ask Ash at Moorabbin Auto Spares if he can get most of this stuff relatively easily. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted January 24, 2012 Author Administrators Posted January 24, 2012 By the way does anyone have experiencing sourcing 240z rear drums and components in Australia? Any idea how expensive it is? Tossing up between replacing 240z drums and replacing with a caliper conversion kit upgrade. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted January 24, 2012 Author Administrators Posted January 24, 2012 Found some in the US of A. 620Z Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Welcome home Gavin. We should get Sulio to try and organise a Zed BBQ at his work for after our return from Tassie? I will try and contact him. He is a bit quiet these days with kids and all. Quote
