Classicman Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Hi guys I've been offered a two owner mint coupe back in South Africa. It needs a blow over though, and the price seems quite steep, so I'm not sure if it will be viable. Are they sought after here, and what would a market related price be here in Aus. I'll try and load a few photos tomorrow for reference. If viable, I will have the car painted by the same guys who are doing my Z, but won't do a full restoration. Any comment, advice, opinions welcomed....... Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted December 10, 2015 Administrators Posted December 10, 2015 Yes desirable, is it a 4 door or 2 door? I don't know your definition of 'steep'? But for the right person a good car would be in demand I'm sure. 1600's (510s) were and are still very popular in Australia. Quote
Classicman Posted December 10, 2015 Author Posted December 10, 2015 Two door Coupe. After repaint, shipping etc it would land here at top 240Z pricing territory. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted December 10, 2015 Administrators Posted December 10, 2015 Well Mr Muppet Lees had 1 for sale a while back. http://www-edwardlees-com-au/vehicle/datsun-bluebird-coupe-1970-2512(replace hyphens with period (.)) because don't want to link to Mr Lee's website (SEO). At $38,000 and it wasn't mint. It's sold now apparently, but that means some poor unfortunate soul had to deal with him. Quote
theremm Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 the 4 doors sell for about 8-12 on average, from what I have observed. I think there would only be a small market for a 2 door above $25k. Quote
1600dave Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Mid $20's would be a reasonable price for a decent example. The right buyer and a very good car may fetch over $30, but it will be a limited market. They still sell for less than a zed in Japan, so anyone in the market would potentially also be looking at importing from there. A broad generalisation here - for a 1600, you are looking at a younger (and potentially less cashed up) demographic than you would be compared to the zed market. The top priced 4 doors are mostly highly modified (SR20 / FJ20 engine, etc), originality is less valued compared to zeds. As to rarity - 5 years or so back, they were very rare over here. Quite a few have come over from Japan in the last couple of years. Very recently, a number of shells have come over from Japan, and have been selling for around $5K. So, I reckon you may be lucky and get close to 240Z money, but it will be a considerably smaller market. Quote
Classicman Posted December 10, 2015 Author Posted December 10, 2015 Thanks for the input guys. This is what the car looks like at the moment: It would be a pity for this car to go to someone who would want to modify or race! Quote
74zzz Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 (edited) ahhh its the coupe.....there would eb a market but it is really small and youd probably have to sit on it for a while before you get your price....... Im in the market for a 1600 and you can't find any decent ones under 12 grand these days....unfortunately.....they have fallen victim to many younger drivers who like to rally and thrash/crash them....or wack sr20s in them.......id love a 2 door sedan as the angles on the coupe just don't look right to me:) Edited December 10, 2015 by 74zzz Quote
Classicman Posted December 10, 2015 Author Posted December 10, 2015 Ive never seen a two door sedan, could you post a pic please? Quote
74zzz Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 they were not imported to Aus....i have to rely on one from the US don't know too much about the jdm supply not sure if they were even sold there......... Quote
74zzz Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 there is a stunning one profiled by jay lenos gararge shot many years ago....have a look on you tube. Quote
Classicman Posted December 11, 2015 Author Posted December 11, 2015 Thanks. I prefer the lines of the Coupe to be honest - personal preference I suppose, just looks more like a fastback / sportsroof. d3c0y 1 Quote

74zzz Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 yep agree totally personal taste......for me fast backs or coupes need to be rounded with the angle carried to the end of the car:) which is probably why i bought a z....couldnt afford a 65 fastback or an xa hardtop haha and had no chance of owning an 60s Ferrari or porsche:) Classicman and gav240z 2 Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted December 11, 2015 Administrators Posted December 11, 2015 Photos from the 2005 Nationals I took. I like both, kind like the notch back 2 door a bit more myself. Classicman 1 Quote
chris240 Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 Meeeh, if you put one next to a Breville 2 slice toaster, they look the same.... Quote
Moderators PB260Z Posted December 13, 2015 Moderators Posted December 13, 2015 Nice looking cars, and certainly unique, but for money I would rather a Z Quote
