  2. More progress today. Three of the four struts are re assembled and ready for installation one day when the body is finished. Forth one I is on the bench so should get it done this week. The colection of finished components is growing larger at the back of the shed. And the bonus is that all this has feed up some shelf space.

  4. Spent some of the day in the shed. Man it was hot here today. Our garage is under the house so it stays nice and cool. It was a retreat today. Spent time sandblasting small components and painting them plus some assembly work. Finished off the RH rear upright. Quite happy with it. Not sure what I will do tomorrow just to many things to do........

  6. Old school. It's not going to be a race car. Maybe later it will change but getting through rego first time around will be much simpler with it std. I do live in a burocratic strong hold. Jeff.
  7. I was in the workshop today for a few hours investigating a compressor failur. When I was done I had time left to spend working on the 240. It was great. I felt like doing some fitting work so I started to re assemble the right rear strut. Fitted the bearings stub axle and breaks. Always great to get the time to just potter. On the engine front I can share a few figures of what's in production at LCR. Les also sent through a couple of photos today of the Pistons and one of the block pre machining. Block original L24 Bore = 85.5 mm Stroke = 89 mm Capacity = 3066 cc (call it 3.1l) Compression = 10.57:1 Head original E88 Inlet valve = 44 mm Exhaust valve = 35 mm Chamber = 50 cc I think it should go ok. Might just be a wolf in sheeps clothing?
  8. No not to much oil. Most likely caused by oil returning from the system as a slug rather than in a continual manner. Or from liquid refrigerant flooding back (less likely given other indicators). The oil sump is actually on the discharge (hot gas) side of the compressor. It is a mess though but unlike a combustion engine that stops fairly quickly when it fails the electric motor driving these things can just keep churning along becoming a blender.
  9. I had another failed compressor to investigate today. Bit of a mess this one. It's a scroll compressor and they do not like being used as a hydraulic pump.

  15. I remember Greg Carr's 131 in the early 80's. I was even lucky enough to get a ride in it. But I don't remember it going as hard as this one. The revs o the revs.
  16. This event is on my bucket list. Each year at this time I watch some of the videos and think next year! So maybe next year will be the one.

  19. From memory Murray Coote's 1200 was a piece of engineering. Greg Carr's 131 was and still is an amazing car. I saw it in Canberra at auto Italia last year. It is as it was run at this event dirt and all.

  22. Les said the crank starts life as an RB crank then gets modified with the journals reduced and off set ground to increase the stroke. Or something like that. Honda I beam rods and LCR pistons should be nice when it's together. It will be 85.5 bore 89 mm stroke makes it just over 3 ltrs. Around 300 BHP at 6500 with 260 ft lbs from about 3500. Coupled with EFI it should be a good driver.

  24. I am working near Warragul this week so I made the pilgrimage to LCR this afternoon. It was great to meet Les have a Cook's tour chat about my engine build and talk about physics with Les. Les seemed quite excited about the prospect of building a (as I'm calling it) 3.1 from an original L24 block. I'm just looking forward to its performance once it's in the car :-).
