Well after a few phone discussions and a quick trip last night 10 minutes from home, I bought this very original 1973 240z of the second owner who purchased the car in 1976. It was a bit of a mission to get the car out as it hadn't been moved in 10 months but after a bit of lifting and moving stuff around we got it out, and surprisingly it was still registered as well. The car is in very original condition with the original carpets, radio and is all matching numbers. With a good tidy up it should come up really well.

I bought it from Stuart Wilkins motorsport in Sydney, they got the car west of Sydney out near Cattai Ridge of memory where it sat in a paddock. The car did run when I had it (not to well) but amazingly it would move around under it's own steam and it was fairly original as far as all the plastics being there and in the engine compartment, just very rusty.

Hey mate, did you get the original motor as well, of memory hat car was matching numbers. I'll put up some pics of how the car looked before Ryan bought it if your interested.

Common zed problem if you have been just driving it in and out of the garage, the engine will start to blow smoke from not having a decent run and can foul the plugs up. take it for a good run first and see what happens. if it still blows smoke and is using oil than you have a bigger issue.

Model - 1976 Datsun 260z Price - 4,000ono Location - Byron Bay - 1 hour south of the QLD border Contact - 0423 660 281 For sale is my 1976 Datsun 260z 2 seater. I was going to fix this car but have decided I'm going to look for another 240z. I have almost everything to get it back on the road as the shell has almost no rust in it. The roof does need replacing as the previous owners tried fixing the sunroof (I have another roof to go with the car) and It's had a light prang in the front left hand nose and needs to be fixed properly. Apart from that the car is fairly original and the interior is in pretty good shape for the age but does need a tidy up. The original colour was brown with black interior and is a 5 speed manual with the r200 diff. The car will come with a L26 motor with the original 260z carbies which have been taken of the car and all the other bits and pieces to get it going. Overall this would be a good base to take back to original or use as a weekend car. I was quoted 5-7k to get the body and paint done which if it doesn't sell I may consider doing. Please note that I will be selling the car with out the bonnet.

I thought about buying this car and converting it back to original. The current owner use to live and work in the same area as myself so i had the opportunity to have a good look at it. The main reason I didn't worry about it, was it needs so much work to get it back to original. You would have to change nearly every panel on the car, front guards, rear quarters, beaver panel, door skins, hatch and unfortunately they have taken the gutters of the roof as well which i've been told can be a hastle to fix. End conclusion for me was unless you can buy it for not much or you like it as is wait for a better car to come up. But hey if your handy with body work or if you have a smashed up 240z sitting in the shed this would be an ideal car to have.

Well after selling the white 240z 18 months ago things have been fairly quiet on the z scene until about a month ago this Red 260z come up for sale on gumtree and was only a couple of hours away. After contacting the owner (had owned her for the last 34 years) with a bit of persiverence a deal was done and we picked the car up that night and drove it home. Since I bought it I have had some rust repairs done, put a 2 1/2 exhaust on and some general maintenance. I'm going to keep it reasonable stock apart from the wheels, exhaust, BRE front spoiler and a couple of other bits and pieces.

9k sounds expensive to get the car roadworthy unless it's got some rust issues. As other people have mentioned on here these cars are so easy to work on.
