  1. Meanwhile, I was getting some inspiration earlier today...Nice 1957 356 A
  2. OK, shell picked up and delivered to body shop. Wont start till after the new year and I'm of OS for 2 weeks anyway, so will just have to sit tight. The shell is in a very good nick. The only visible rust was in the dog leg section which of course we'll cut out and weld in new panels. Other than that, doors, guards, hatch, etc, all nice and solid.
  3. interested.
  4. Have been enjoying the car a bit, driving to and from the office, but still not happy with the exhaust note, so now building custom rear silencer with a help of few people in the know, will be adding baffle plates and shortening various tubes to get the sound I want. Meanwhile getting bored with all red look and over a beer, we decided to give her some decals
  5. Thank you. Saw many materials like this, they are amazingly versatile. Picked up the rotisserie today (thanks Pater!). Saw a mammoth Ferrari replica build based on S30 chassis. I feel like my project is actually walk in a park by comparison. Get it all done Peter, time to live is now!
  6. The ferry approach is very steep. I couldn't make it on in my red Z. Would have to go the other way and meet up on the other side 1st.. Went that way many times on bikes and in other cars. If someone is up for a longer, quicker drive, I also suggest Jenolan Caves run. Not that far.
  7. I will be replicating this, so stay tuned.
  8. This is not for the faint hearted. Getting prepped for 2nd acid deep. Where in doubt, blow torch it! (stubborn sound deadening)
  9. That 911 in front, do you know whether this was a 3.2 or 3.0?. Great driving and love that screamer!
  10. Yes, they do. I have entire 280ZX workshop manual with schematics.
  11. Great turnout...Thanks for organising.
  12. Yeah, just looked at your post again. You are really doing a great job there. Hope to meet up with you one day.
  13. Thanks Jeff. Lots of work ahead. Hope to have a nice Z after all of the pain to enjoy for a very long time.
  14. Head almost done, block getting done next. All will be balanced, MIA guys seem to know their old-school craft well
  15. Yep, the last multi-window combi (recently) sold at Shannons for about $180K off memory. Anyway, Went in today, to check up on status of the body and then the engine progress with MIA. Body had stage 1 deep, getting water blasted today and going back in tomorrow for the weekend, Initial view is daunting, but I know it will look much better in a weeks time.
  16. Thanks GongZ !.. Well sorted The car was very clean as you all saw, but the paint was very tired. I'm not one for "patina" and wanted the best shell I could get. The owner of the deeping place said that they never done a 240Z before. They do plenty of cars and bikes etc and its the only way I know, you can get to all rails and cavities and neutralise any rust there may be lurking (and there would be). I have a strategy for the rust proofing afterwards and will discuss this once the car is on rotisserie. I hope I don't see this when the car emerges: :-) (old VW combi which was just about to go to neutralising bath. Its essentially a large sieve now.
  17. OK, so got the car dipped today. Was there to soak up the action. Will be there for about 2-3 weeks, then off to panel shop.
  18. IF my red S30 will be done (still playing with exhaust), I'll bring her in, if not, next best thing.
  19. Just the exchange!, I really feel it this time around, last few years it was almost a pleasure spending $$ here, now I count ..Went to see few Z places, such a different vibe in Z community here, everyone actually wants to talk to you and I was showered with free gifts!...We could take a page out of customer service in US that's for sure. (remember, this is not my 1st visit here). Anyway, some original rear 1/4's anyone?. They are here, hanging around, Made in Japan verified!
  20. While in US, stocked up on all of the essential detail parts and taking with me on the plane tomorrow. Rest already at home
  21. OK, got a call from stripping place, they are ready to take my car on. So back in Sydney on Friday and car off to strippers on Monday!. Should be in a panel shop in 2 weeks. Got all of my essential resto parts here in US and carting it all back home on Wednesday
  22. Thanks for that. Didn't pick up on that aspect. Would love to see the many dayno runs with various set-ups to see the difference..
  23. Well spotted. I don't want to sound like a whinger, but the headers I though had ben rushed and are a little bit of an afterthought. I mean look at the joints. With all of the gear I saw at the show and all of the capabilities, why would you weld 2 different wall thickness's together?. As for brake lines, they will have heat shield, just not for the show ....
