  1. if NZeder isnt interested, how much u want for the wheel kit? about how much further back does it set the wheel from OEM position? Cheers Dave
  2. I would suggest NOT purchasing OBX seats, they are cheap, which is good, but they fall apart, which is bad. The foam does not have good memory, and so it sags very quickly. my seats have been int he car about 6 months, and the bolster on the outside of the drivers seat is goon in material and stitching, but not so crash hot in the foam underneath my 2c worth
  3. thats true, and here is another one to throw in the mix. the 240z is undoubtedly a classic., 40 odd years from production Will we (or not) see the 370z being a sought after classic. I for one believe that the s15 200sx will enjoy that status, as the last of the "modern but without a computer for everything" cars, that still required a good dose of brains and common sense to drive. the 370z is getting some good reviews, and is in my opinion carrying on the zed lineage (unlike the zx's and the 350z (im sure i'll get some flame for that ) BUT i dont think it will be sought after as a classic like the 240 (and lesser extent the 260z has been and like i predict the s15 will be (if you can ever find one that hasnt been widebody 22" chromasized. lets discuss
  4. Im sure most people here have seen Eric Bana's "Love the Beast" Jeremy Clarkson in an interview said "if you built the car this last time yourself, you wouldn't have crashed it" (talking about paying for a build rather than building the XB coupe himself. And to a certain extent I think thats true. If you put in the time and effort to build the car, then you will respect it, and enjoy it. If you just bought a damn good one, although you may respect and enjoy it, it will not quite be the same, it will have no memories, and nothing (other than the new-found wallet hole) to attach you to the car. I think most people here will swing toward the older cars... we wouldnt be here if thats not true! There will always be more money later, who says you cant have one of each! I love my 260z, but the 370z is also mmmm *drools*
  5. hahhaa well I have a foot in both camps here, with an RB conversion on the way, and a L28 (2.9L) on the floor in the corner. I loved the way my car used to drive. It had epic torque, could keep up with the S15/WRX/skyline etc etc BUT I love turbo. and to go turbo, although you can go the L28ET route, there is a fair bit of involvement in getting that across the line. RB on the other hand, bolt in and away we go! overall, I would still have to say nissan motor FTW. Cross Breeding... pass
  6. You have PM Zbitz
  7. all the r200 long noses that I have seen ont he net are the 4.36, which will be a bit on the short side when we start winding it out. whats thjis wheel swapping business?
  8. still looking for a longnose R200 3.9 LSD let the last one slip through my fingers, but have the funding now, so anyone who spies one around the traps... Cheers Dave
  9. Sports 1000 S211 I believe?
  10. Spanishroll There are some people, and things you just gotta leave alone. 99.99999% of the time, people put up prices for goods that are fair. especially when those people sell parts for a living, or have been selling them for a fair while through the forums. People who put up incorrect prices usually dont know what something is worth. I believe if you will search you will find a for sale listing of me wanting $3000 for a L28 motor and gearbox. (ridiculous I know) Generally, on carsales, we negotiate, if we buy more than one thing we negotiate. go to a swap meet, we negotiate. with a small, reasonably tight knit forum, if the price it fair, you just pay the asking price. I can't speak for RB30x (although he is prompt on the PM reply when i ask for a part), but I know a couple of people who have bought things from Otomoto, and I personally have had some non-finanical dealings with Ben and his guys, and NEVER has the price been misrepresented, or the advice and helpfulness been less than awesome.
  11. I figured before I try Kennards I would try my local Zed community I friend of a friend's mother's son bob once had a pet ferret that owns one I can borrow, so its sorted
  12. Hi All, Needing to borrow an engine hoist/crane from someone in the greater sydney area. Would Need it for about a week (hopefully) Will pay in Beer Can Anyone help me out?
  13. whats your location? if you are close enough to me i'll come and grab the engine crane
  14. sounds like they didnt get many of the s20 motor to the US or even in japan either. should have been teh standard configuration! bean counter miser at nissan/datsun said no
  15. didnt figure i would need to search in case of duplicature seems i should have searched so as not to cause the echo effect echo effect echo effect..t.t.t...
  16. I have no build thread.... cause im lazy so far I have only gone thru the parts buying, adn the taking off old parts stage. so not much to say so far. The point you mentioned about about the smaller turbo on the honda, and understanding our points as needing a large turbo for a z, is half true Half of a turbo's power comes from the pressure you have it controlled at (by wastegate etc) the second, and often the more important part, is the volume of air that the turbo is able to flow. you can have a tiny t25, and push 30 PSI through it into a 3L motor, no worries, (assuming its all built) but it will run out of breath, because not much air at high pressure is stil well... not much air. you can have a monster turbo, gt3545 on a 1.8L motor, and run 10PSI, no worries, but your tiny motor cant actually push out enough exhaust gass, to get good pressure in the turbo, and therefore, we get lag. for good response, and good boost, and ultimately good power, you first have to match the motor and the turbo to the application a GT28, GT2871, 2876 etcm should get you into party mode with a 3 L, its marginally bigger than a manufacturer would put on the car, and with proper management it will flow air into the engine well, and be good for scando's 200km ish figure. if you want to get your party on really hard, you go larger, but you need the fuel system, the engine system, and the tuning to match it. going smaller just gets you super response, followed by a car running out of breath @ 5000rpm. no benefit. all things in balance grasshopper.....
  17. http://speedhunters.com/archive/2009/11/04/car-feature-gt-gt-that-240z.aspx a friend of mine drew this to my attention so impractical, but the stance is just so angry! im sure a few of you have seen picutres floating aroudn the interweb
  18. why they couldnt make a couple more, and pop them in all the zed we will never know. i understand base vs premium model, but the zed dominated teh corvettes etc in luxury trim. in s20 engine format, it would have eaten them alive.
  19. hi mate, and welcome I am in teh process of the same conversion by my understanding, high boost, and high compression CAN be done, but requires an epic amount of tuning to get it exactly right. in an NA car, 11:1 is high, but reasonable, esp in such a tightly strung motor like a K20 or the like from the spoon makers. the new BMW turbo motors are on 10.5:1, with something stupid like 20PSI boost, but you can imagine how much in a turbo car, 8:1, 9:1 maybe is the norm. reason for this is as you say, it allows the PSI to be higher. The easiest way to lower compression is to increase the size of the combustion chamber (bit between the top of the piston and the valve seats.) to do that a metal head gasket does the trick nicely. what size of head gasket will depend on how far you want to lower compression. A metal head gasket and some head studs to go with it have other benefits as well. instead of running at atmospheric pressure, or vacuum (depending on throttle position) you are running with boost, so above atmo pressure. putting all of that extra pressure in there can lift the heads. which means the coolant and the oil get an intruduction, and you get to blow a head gasket, which is not the most fun to be had. My suggestion would be to lower the compression, and run mediocre boost, somewhere between 8 and 13psi. start with a 1mm head gasket, and if while tuning you still get alot of pinging, work your way thicker from there. Mechanical sympathy, and giving your engine some comfort space in the boost/pressures/detonation/"tightly wound" department will mean you get more km out of the whole set up.
  20. for some reason the majority of zeds i looked at were in VIC, and they represent the biggest slice of the pie in zed ownership as far as i can tell grass is always greener on the other side though right
  21. @ eastern creek you are not supposed to, but @ the beginning of the day while tyres are cold, you gotta warm em up somehow, and at the end of the day, when you are starting to get thru the tyres, they get a little floppy brake far too late into the corner, with a bit of steering on, and control with light throttle, great fun spun it once when i left teh braking so so late i locked the front and then it whipped about if ur in Sydney, look up friday night drifting @ eastern creek, they are about to start an "off street" meet in the carpark of WSID (all legit and above board) they are marketing it a bit like the movie scene, show and shine, and driftwars. more likely be mechanical zip tie yard and destructo derby if you have to go out with another car.
  22. the octopus..... fail on the translation of manifold perhaps? intake octopus and exhaust octopus? yes i know its strictly an extractor, but the first translation has "sOLEX octopus legs.... Also, I was wondwering whee i might purchase a new full-tiger, i would love to have my hand on it too.
  23. i believe over filling the oil slightly gives you more 710 fluid slopping around int eh sump, so in extreme cornering the pickup wont go dry, and therefore you are less likely to suffer from oil starvation, which leads to well... pop and so on. I am running an L28 in 260z, have done some track time, including some experimental dorifto driving on track, whcih will certainly dry out a pickup, and I have never had an issue either. touch wood
  24. I have had the same thing. had my car put through a blueslip for falling out of rego for too long. passed without a care in teh world, nothign dodgy etc etc all above board. After finishing up @ the RTA i went home and out we went for a drive. stetch the old girls legs. got pinged 30 mins later for rims non standard, air intake non standard, suspension non standard, (and the list goes on) 15 mins of "discussion" with the policeman, and there was a shiny new yellow decal on my windscreen (defective sticker for NSW dunno if its the same in all states) took it straight back to the inspector, and he blinked twice, swore under his breath about police officers and improper training/knowledge etc etc, and cleared the slip. been defected in my father's XR8 (standard) for ride height too low. asked the police officer to park his car on the same section of road and pass the block under. (ford XR8 for him too) and his car failed too. Instead of admit his fault, he defected me, and then defected his patrol car to have it inspected.
  25. Nikon d3, with 24-70 f2.8 lens but its my job, so i have to outlay stupid amounts on cameras. Used to (while still at tafe) sell cameras through a specialist retailer in sydney (Paxtons) D5000, and for those onthe canon side, 500d, are stupidly well advanced, i didnt think we would see the jump to that sort of thing in that level of the market quite so soon. hopefully some more photos to come. I have others but they are not of zeds
