Remember you dont buy a z with your brain, you buy it with a mixture of your heart and your right foot! Just do it. What's the worse that can happen ? Take the easy way out and get a modern fridge of a car or get a classic. No brainer. About the car you linked to : Tiny bubbles of rust reappearing on wheel arches and bottom of door ... If you are going to use it as a daily then these will need to be cutout quick ( i know cos I have the exact same thing on my car ). Rust isnt a crime though. But if that rust is showing then it will be worse once stripped back to metal. A bargaining chip perhaps. Get it for 8 k and use the 2 k to get the rust taken out and buy everyone on the forum a beer for helping you into a Z.

Nice look . I wont say SIK in big letters and append fully to the front of it but.... Can I ask what the offset was for your 9.5 inch simmons so that they sat inside standard 2+2 guards ? I had been thinking 8 inch wide would be enough and got close to ordering if the taxman is nice to me but then I see your pics. Mike Ahh Kapiti coast grew up around those parts.

Why would I suggest a 2+2 when he could have a 2 seater sitting on a trailer with no doors.

Pretty sure that datsun/nissan built the z to be driven as a daily driver after all they do now. I daily drive mine. I like my car and want to use it as often as I can. Put aside the money you would spend on crap car for the eventual nicks and scrapes and enjoy your car. As soon as you mollycoddle it you'll become to scared to drive it and then the enjoyment leaves your life and you become a bitter/twisted and angry man intent on ruining as many peoples lives as you possibly can. You take this new found hatred for humanity and go to work at the tax office. Your time is now made up of figuratively bending people over and humping them and polishing your car. Where as if you continue to drive your car women will flock to you in droves , men will worship you as a god and little kids will aspire to be like you. I think you can make the correct choice here. My work is done.

Sco-aus : what I am meaning is this. Choice between the easier route ( 350/370z ) or the harder/costlier/painful route of restoring and owning a car you have always wanted. Not that I look down on the blokes who work hard to get the money to achieve 350/370z. Just that I assume if you are on this forum that you have a love of the 240/260 and therefore would do as much as you could to achieve the end goal. Which is a car that blokes are jealous of, blokettes get weak at the knees and old people lose control of their bowels when you pass by. Also I am a bit odd sometimes, I like to live in a fantasy world where angelina jolie likes fat balding hairy men who drive old datsuns and can burn water when they try to cook. If I didnt live in that fantasy I'd probably do something stupid like try to run the country while taking part in ironman contests wearing lycra.

I had this discussion recently with my bro who is a " bugger it get a 350 " person. My answer was : - Have you had fun restoring the car ? - When you drive your car do you stress less and feel just a little less frantic and more laidback ? - Do/did you have a sense of achievement and pride in the job or work that you did? - Do you enjoy the looks of jealousy from other blokes who were forced to buy some SUV/MPV/bus to haul the kids/wife/dog/groceries around in ? - Do you hug your car ? If the answer is yes to any of those questions then it is money well spent. Nowadays it seems only real men choose the harder/costlier but ultimately more rewarding route. Also restoring an older car is in fact a form of recycling. You are in fact helping the planet by not buying a new car but keeping an older one still running. In fact carbon credit wise you have SAVED money. The government should subsidise classic car owners ( lower rego would be a nice thing ) for not increasing the carbon debt by buying a new car every 5 or so years. You should be applauded for spending obscene amounts of money on classics. Not derided. I intend to drink a few beers in your honour and get wonderfully buzzed. Thank you for giving me a reason.

Hello Abdal , I too am from a long way away. I used to hang around a basketball court with my friends when A bunch of no good people came up to me and biffed me around. Well my grandma told me that I had to leave my home and move to a new city to live with my uncle. I was a little worried at first but when I got into the taxi and asked the taxi driver to take me to the new house I was amazed at how all the houses were beautiful. At first I thought is this all real? then I said NAh and said to take me to my new home. I Now hang around with my uncle and my cousin Carlton who is a little square but is basically a nice if misguided fool. That is how I became the freshest royal person in Bel air. I welcome you to our site where we can talk about hip hop , Datsun z's and wearing our flouro green hat tilted to the side. -
no worries on the one off orders then. I think it is against the law in qld to run spacers. Still I hope someone takes you up on the awesome offer. I wouldnt be bothered with putting coilovers on a bus to get them to fit.

if only the offset was right. :'( :'( On a separate -related note. Can you bring in any rota wheels ?
-
might mean less sanding and prep using rattle cans. Still interested in the end results.

Odd situation with sale of a UK 1975 260z !

Taking your initial post at face value. 1. You buy a zed 2. previous owner wants to scrap it in some sort of "King George scuppering his yacht so no one else can sail it after I am dead" (I'm a history nut ) . 3. you say " hey I know We'll send it over seas that way the car gets saved " instead of insisting on your rights as a purchaser. 4. We send money. I'll sign up for that. After the cheque from the Nigerian prince clears and my teeth whitening products appear I will be sending you some money. -
I demand close up shots of end result. Looks great. Cops were called on me when I resprayed my car ( then the council ) so this might be a better option. Keep us updated.

Seriously. How long is your aerial? (Iphone night shot). Nice wheels/tyres. Are you on lowered suspension ?

back seat + female + barry white + room for sub box = 2+2 no back seat + mrs palmer + barry crocker + no room for sub box = 2 seater. For the humourless this is a joke. I would type LOL at this point to show it is a joke but I wasnt ( lolling that is ) . Obligatory 3 or because I am feeling frisky 4 happy faces to follow. ;D ;D On a serious note. I do wonder about hitting above the 10 k though. you get into some rarified territory with those sorts of prices.

" When I've finished restoring, I want a saleable asset " No dont buy it. Dont buy an enthusiast car if you are approaching it with this sort of attitude. You will never get your money back. And your " boss " will take one look at the initial investment V ROI and say that it is not a fiscally intelligent use of your money. If you see classic car ownership as a business venture that is.

I can only add that the twin su's are great in daily driving ( eg rush hour nose to tail crap ) but the triples... well they are worth it. If you dont strangle them and give them what they want. They pop and bang just like real race cars. Then that power from around 2500 - 5000 is intoxicating. Very important to get a good linkage system. Go webers over dellortos. A lot of dellorto setups ( mine included ) are using the so called "emission" carbs. B4st4rds to tune. Real b4st4rds. Just personal experience. If I had my time again I'd go new webers over "cheap" dellortos.

I re-read the OP's post and he says he wants it to rev to 7500 rpm. I have basically what he is doing but with balancing and lightening, with the l28 f54/n42 setup. The most I have ever revved it is to 5500 rpm. Where upon I grabbed the next gear. My question. Could the OP's setup ( and by proxy my current setup ) make 7500 before dying ?

nice car. one day I will have one of these. I promise it. Go international. My350z.com is huge. plus with the internet and the dollar being like it is you can get most of the items they are all talking about. There are a few aussies on there as well.

I can Answer this question with figures as well. A valve regrind kit is about 135 AUD though my first one was only 95AUD but that was missing a inspection gasket. You'll need the valve regrind kit even if you dont regrind the valves as it has the head gasket and exhaust gasket and the rocker box gasket. Ordering separately is more expensive than ordering it as a full kit. This was through Repco both times. Of course if you whip the head off ( done this too many times for my liking now ) you might find other nasties. Then you're in for some more coin.
