  1. More the merrier, i am making the 4hr round trip from sunny ballarat. So THERE HAD BETTER BE BEER! I would be great to catch up with some of you a little closer. Even if you can't bring a zed, come along for a chat and some food. I am bringing those magazine articles on the 240z I have been collecting for those who are interested, last count was 98, not inc the 120+ from 2004 onwards 27 1970's 22 1980's 19 1990's 30 2000-2003 ? 2004 - now 98 Cheers from up the highway Dale
  2. Nope, thats Gavin Strongmans old car, it is now owned by vince harlor (sydney), he also has the RB25DET (No399) 240z that took out the Nats in 2005. He had both cars there on the weekend. The RB car had an extensive write up in Fast Fours July 2004. Think you will find that the 260z (orange strip) would have been quicker if Gavin was still driving it, Vince I think is more interested in having a good time rather than ultimate speed.
  3. For those who are interested http://www.racetime.com.au/?event=p0703
  4. Craig you got it for the fasted time in the over 5l class for the sprints. Gordon also got one for the fasted in the 2-3l, 1.50.??, second fastest on the day.
  5. Heath I have heard about that to, can confirm that the present system in SA. I want that in, you are suposed to fill in the log book before you leave home each trip. But 90 days a year is more than enough if you are like me and only drive the z on weekeds thats a spin Sat & Sun on 45 w/ends a year, if only i could find the time to drive the z that much. They do limit your driving to club sancitioned events, but it can be any club event as long as the club is a CH affiliate. Eg i am off to a show'n' shine in Maryborough on w/end thats run by the local hot rod club. There is also a 'test and tune :-) day on a dedicated day once a month'
  6. Gav I will have CH plates for my z this week, you don't have to get a roadworthy :-). I rang Don Hill (NSDOC President) and they didn't want a roadworthy they prefered a check of the car personally. I got that done saturday, he just checked all lights & horn, stood on the brakes and gave the car look over, didn't take it for a drive. Gave me a letter saying he has given the car his OK, get a vic roads rego form signed by Alan Fields (Sec), take both into Vic roads, pay your cash and you are done. Relatively simple process just a matter of organising with the NSDOC guys. Mine was a bit of a rush / messy cause I need it before the Nationals & the show n shine i am going to this sunday and i had to find a morning to dive the 3 hrs to melb & back. Dale
  7. DON'T THROW ANYTING OUT can't agree more, I have/had a bag of bolts, rubbers etc etc somewhere that I can't find (and need) but I have a sickening feeling that they got thrown out in a clean up i had 12 months ago
  8. Just got a price from local auto parts store on std z air filter, $49?? Mind u it took them 1/2hr to dig it up out of the catalogs, and they need to order it in. Seems a bit steep, I will b bidding for that one on ebay, but what have you guys been charged round town.
  9. jacking thread ;opps hemi motor sounds familiar, I got a magazine during the week from the 80s bout a turbo 4.6 hemi in a 240z, may be its the same car. i'll find the mag and post up a scaned copy, and u can see if its your old rig.
  10. Thanks guys I did see that one on ebay, I only need a real cheap one, after all it just going back into the orange one (for those of you who know this car, it is still very bent), i am using it for parts at the moment. But will get it straightened out at some stage, may be turn it into a track car, who knows!
  11. Any one else come accross this? My red 240z has a metal fuel filler jutting out into the boot space. I tried to fit the interior pannel off the orange 240 and the fuel filler was in the way? Dam it! They must have redesigned the filler neck and the interior pannel to suit. Probably to fix (partialy) the prob of fuel spill when going round corners. Red car never came with that interior pannel, and come to think of it almost no interior at all. Any one got a photo of that pannel from an early car, like to see what they resdesigned. So after much sweating on the weekend the rubber neck fuel filler from the orange car is in the red one. Tried to fit the metal filler back into the orange one and nope will not fit seems nissan decreased the size of the fuel opening in the later models!, so the hole in the body work is to small. Note Red 240z 3/1971 Orange 11/72 Anyone got a rubber fuel filler neck they want to get rid of!

  13. Only had the car just on a month now, its a red manual. There is a pale yellow 240 for sale on the WA z club web site #513 is this the one you thinking off. I picked mine up from a farmer were it had been resting in a shed for 10-11 yrs
  14. Ok, I know I could be opening another can of worms here, and this topic has been done to death so many times over on so many sites, but I have one question. Trying to work out an approximate build date for chassis no - HS30 - 00517, Engine no - L24 - 20606, it has no compliance plates in the engine bay like my other 2 z's had. From what I have read, and the other early one i had, I believe build date would be a approx - Mar 71 Does that sould about right to you guys.
  15. Time to get some touch up paint for the z, trying to make it look at least respectible before the nationals. Does anyone have the datsun colour codes, I am going to take an inspection flap in with me but a code would be a much better starting point.
  16. From what I have been told bout my car (never pulled it personally) they had to use a 280 gearbox to match up to the 3.5 auto dif when the manual converson was done. I am sure it retained that dif because is used to tick over at 26-2700rpm @ 70mph in top. Dale
  17. From memory I think Daniel Moore got his 240z race car down to 980kg with half a tank of fuel and him in it. Fibre bonnet, perspex rear glass, no heater box, whatts as rims etc. He runs DJM automotive & is a member here. Dale
  18. Photos are up in my gallery guys.
  19. Thanks Bruce Mates dad was stiring me bout not fixing my bent z & commented there was a parts z on there small town notice board for sale. Thought it would be a 2+2 or 280, they know nothing bout z's, but it was only 200km out of my way, a nice drive for sunday so i went to have a look at the advert. Turns out its much better than a parts car. Short term, plan is to put it on club plates, make sure its mechanically reliable & take it to nationals as is, dirt & all. After that, use interior & what ever else i need for the orange z, (the one from tamsamia for those who know it) to do this one up, from there anything is possible Cheers Dale
  20. Hi Guys Found build no 517 on a farm in country vic on w/end, and bought it. Been sitting in the shed (dry & under & car cover) for 12 years only driven every 6 months by a guy in his mid sixties. Recon its done 400km in that time. Very straight, almost no rust to speak of, few small holes in the floor around where a previous repair jobs was done, straight frame rails and a little rust in the usual z problem areas. Interior is aclass 80's botch job, sports seats (yuck), 8 ball as gear nob (classic) and hession for carpet. Some of the diamond still their along with centre console. Running a L28 with 5 speed, on 240 carbs, comes with bags of parts. There are cars hiding out in country vic so don't stop looking over peoples back fences & down the side streets, it took me 10yr to find this one. Still its not what u know but who u know in the quest for the z. Got lots a photos on the phone but can't get them to up load yet. Dale
