Victoria club rego. Who, where and how do i apply.
260Coupe replied to Retro Z's topic in General Discussions
Guys Just to set the record straight for the ill informed and those who are quick to pass judgement on the NDSOC (and once again not current NDSOC members). There have been a couple of 1600's knocked back from the CPS as they were considered too modified and the owners did not have engineering certs covering the engine retrofits (SR20 turbos) etc, nor were they prepared to get the documentation required. The Skyline owner (if it is the one I am thinking of) was asked to get a RWC as his vehicle was considered to be in too poorer state of repair for our scrutineer to issue a letter of safety. As far as Benny's case is concerned, yes that was during a transition period where the NDSOC committee was considering a 1 year wait period due to the influx of permit plate applications (mostly looking for cheap rego)...........without starting a $hite fight .......... I think Benny was a classic example of someone wanting to join the NDSOC just to get a permit plate and had little intention of attending events and supporting the club, this is clearly evidenced by the fact that he did not join at all nor did nor did he have the courtesy of ringing me to discuss his application (and from memory had the car up for sale two months later)..............his comments now are juvenile and purely sour grapes . New members looking to join the NDSOC to obtain a CPP are most welcome as long as they sign off the T&C's The NDSOC now has a minimum attendance policy for its CPS scheme which is working very well for the 50+ members that have club permit plates and all are very happy with our approach. PM me if you need any info and the NDSOC Terms and Conditions for Club permit Plates regards Alan Fildes Permit Plate Secretary/AOMC liaison/Vic Roads Delegate NDSOC -
NDSOC member - Allan Entwhistle has a Z31 two seater - he may be interested if you are selling or he may be able to track down some parts - PM me if you want his number Al.

Sam I have a 240z air box in excellent condition, however it is to be sold with a set of 240z carbs, manifold and linkages etc attached (SR needles installed to suit L26). Airbox has been sand blasted and repainted the factory orange, carbs where rebuilt around four years ago by Lou Mondello and work flawlessly (taken off the car after 6 months and triple Mikuni's installed), These carbs are ready to bolt on and dyno tune..........(I do not sell junk). The whole lot will be sold as a set (with new air filter). PM me if you are interested Alan

There is a whole can of worms here if you want to start talking sprint classes so I have kept it at a high level. Sprint Cartegories will be published well before the event however to be realistic, there are very few absolutely standard early Zeds around so we allow some mods, again these will be detailed in the sub regs and as early as possible. Any questions/decisions around class eligibility will be will be assessed by the competion secretary as the entry is submitted. Lets not get bogged down in the details just yet suffice to say that we will be endeavouring to make the classes as fare and equitable as possible. Alan

On the subject of classes, (just talking Zeds now) the capacity rules will apply as Gordon has indicated with a 1.7 multiplier for forced induction cars as per previous years and have standard, modified and race. At this stage we will be running Zed only classes (as apposed to the shamozzle at the last Nats where classes where totally screwed and it seemed that trophies were handed out willy nilly) .......so not to loose the "Zed Nationals heritage" as well as classes for all other marques The general criteria will be limited mods for standard (carbs and exhaust permited) Modified- including engine retrofits, R series tyres, coil overs etc, but basically still a road registered car Race - speaks for itself. These would then be applied across the model range.........previously we have awarded trophies for standard 240/260/280/300, modified 240/260/280 yaddah yaddah however this becomes an administrative nghtmare with too many trophies and often not enough cars in all classes to justify....................so ...........depending upon the number of entries we may split these into classic Z (240/260/280) and modern (Z31-Z32 33 etc) stand, mod and race This is a fairly complex task and can lead to a lot of angst so a lot of thought will need to go into this with consideration of the entry list. Simon this would be a good role for you to assist with when it comes the time cheers Al.

Guys Cleaning out the garage and I have a set of Genuine Nissan 83mm flat top pistons that are superfluous to my requirements. These are STD bore These are ideal for any L26 refresh to up compression from 8.3 to around 9.8 without any head shaving. (or for use in anu L24 refresh) These are not cheap Chinese junk but genuine Nissan product which are NLA PM my if you are interested please cheers Alan

As Ash has said ..............75 db noise limit excludes me ...........my Roadster gets pinged every time due to the induction noise. The NDSOC will be providing the catering though so thre will be a few of us there to spectate. Al.

Clean energy future and Carbon Tax
260Coupe replied to positivetennis's topic in Off Topic Discussions
The irony of all this is the governments are pushing people to buy new cars to replace the "old polluting clunkers" The crazyness of this scheme is that the pollution created from a car made 30-40 years ago has long since been reabsorbed back into the environment but the production of new cars is creating new pollution !!! Another fact is that the life cycle of the production of a Toyota Prius creates far more environmental pollution and more energy to build run and than recyle than the production life cylce of a gas guzzling Hummer !! the government should be pushing the retrofit of modern fuel efficient engines into old classics rather than the ridiculous "cash for clunkers"scheme pushed by Gillard (another failed policy) that was only designed to boost the car sales (and mostly small imports) , not save the planet is claimed Al. -
If your L26 runs the stock 8.3:1 comp then it will run on 91 RON unleaded...........the issue is valve seat recession caused by the lack of lead so use a lead replacement additive in the fuel. Or refress the engine and install stainless valve seats so you can run without the lead replacement additive. You may find slight performance increases using 95 RON but only a dyno run will prove this Al.

Finally Nissan are seeing some sense !.......Mazda have been doing it for the past 20+ years with the MX5- a true light weight sports car that is as much fun at 60 kmph as it it at 160 !- this is the closest thing to the Datsun Sports 2000 reincarnation available - 2lt, front engine, rwd and a rag top . The 370z whilst a great car, its performance only comes to the fore beyond legal speed limits so in my view a bit pointless.(same goes for most other sports cars on the market) Let's get back to a bare bones sports car with brilliant handling and adequate power which balances the whole package and get the price back down to under $50k.

Looks like the only mods that are now considered are engine swaps (original era to modern) A Zed that has been mod'd with big stoppers, L30 donk with triples, coil overs etc will be hard to catch in a Sc spec Zed on stock brakes and suspension Also 240 will be in Class CC not DC as suggested on the web page http://www.msca.net.au/content/downloads/MSCA_Vehicle_Classes.pdf

March 9 to 11 2012 Phillip Island Classics. hUGE historic event

The rollover happen right in front of us- the transaxle stayed attached, the porker lost its screen, bumbers and various bits of metal in the cartwheel and sounded like a biscuit tin full of bolts when then rolled it back onto its wheels and dragged onto the flat bed. The roll cage certainly did its job as you could clearly see the impressions in the roof. Here is a pic I took when you wre leaving the scene Al. -
Sorry - I'll qualify that...........you can refresh a L series for under a grand if you have the ability to do the work yourself. I built an L24 for my old Sc race car for around $900 this included new pistons (from Lindsay Drife) , all new timing gear, rings and bearings, oil pump, water pump etc - the head was fine. I suppose I did have the advantage of getting all the parts at wholesale prices (apart from the pistons )... so add on 20%. This motor turned 140 kws on the triples

Pull on /pull off - or use the flash button at the end of the stalk If the high beams do not work, also check the relays - they get lazy
-
Simon has hit the nail on the head - most of the specs you read are from US cars which where progressively strangled by emmision control gear and the requirement to run on low octane unleaded fuels. (we inherited this in the form of the L26) Early 240's were good for a sub 8 sec 0-100 kph, this then slipped to over 10 secs in the 280z hence why they bolted on a hair drier to get some mumbo back in the 280zx. If you can find an L28 from a local 280zx (not a Jap taxi import or a Patrol engine) bolt on some 240 carbs, a mild cam and decent extrators -it should good for nearly 200 bhp if tuned properly (Lindsay Drife was building these "bread and butter" engines 20 years ago ) without to much work on the internals . Big horse power is exponential with ever deminishing returns for the $$$ spent..........anything over 220 bhp from a L series gets very exy .........the more you want the more you gotta spend If you want to retain the L26 and stick to a bugget ( a refresh for well under $1000) then install flat top pistons- this will increase the comp to around 9.8:1 this will improve power and torque by around 30% If you want to go beyond that build an L28 (or bigger) and start spending
-
From the Zeds we have run on the chassis dyno over the last 20+ years - we find most standard L24/L26 engines turn around mid 70's rwkws Here are some numbers from my L26 Standard with standard exhaust and 240 carbs and B grind cam - 76 rwkw Standard with 240 carbs and headers and A grind 240Z cam - 88 rwkw L26 refreshed with flat top pistons, elec ignition, 240 carbs and A grind cam - 108 rwkw L26 with all the above and with tripple 44 Mikuni's - 122 rwkw As to weather you replace your L26 is a question originality - and how much $$$ you have free to spent Al.

A great day on Sunday Huge prang in the Group SC race on Sunday (right in front of the NDSOC display) with a Corvette spinning on the sweeper taking out half a dozen cars, Jason ended up facing the wrong way and looked to have avoided much of the carnage, a 911 rolled several times (end over end at one point) and was totally destroyed- driver was very lucky to avoid serious injury. Al.
