  1. how much the 3d set you back if you dont mind me asking? I've got a piece of it 2D in my 280 which could use a tune, might look into something a bit better. Is it just extending the wire to your dash you're trying to do? can you not just use any old bit of current carying wire, ie some speaker cable or something?
  2. I rekon he might have some luck. ~$100 is what a wrecker would give you for a bomb which didn't go and was rusted out.
  3. Are you sure Evan? I just got a rego refund on my brothers old subaru which died. They gave me $387 - part of that was the rego fee and all those little thigns they charge for. From memory only about $250 was the acutal registration. I was being overly nice and curtious to the guy at vicroads coz i didn't have the plates to return as they were sold with the car and then the car was destroyed. That may have helped.
  4. Yeah I think I might be heading down saturday morningish in my 280 then coming back sunday avo/night. and I think evan is similar. I know theres a fair few of us in the eastern suburbs, we could possibly meet on springvale road near where the freeway starts; In Glen waverly/ wheelers hill sort of area or a bit further south; whatever suburb that is.
  5. Well I fixed my bumper 2 weeks ago and thought id post a pic. I didn't take a before shot of the damage, I think evan, you saw it at its worst. Im pretty happy with how it came out, could use some more paint in order to get a really smooth finish and buff it really shiny, and beacuse the damage was so bad the entire bumper isn't quite straight and the curvuture is a bit off in several places. I also fixed a small rust patch in the corner of the taillight, fixed it all up and painted it, tried to merge it will the old paint but failed fairly hard. The colours dont seem to match quite as they should (got it custom matched to my spoiler though) and it physically didn't merge with the old paint, theres an obvious line where they meet. I was told by the guy i bought the paint off to put just thinner in the gun and do a couple of quick light sprays where they join, but i stupidly ignored him. Is this fixable? or would it best to sand the paint back and start again from primer stage. (Please exuse the crapness of my camera phone, im still hanging out to get my mju770 )
  6. There must be 500grams of weight in that dash matt - think how much faster you could go without it. Might be a stupid question, but i've never understood what the netting on the windows of race cars is for. Best theory i can come up with is so your helmet doesn't smash the window when you go round a corner. thats it... right guys?
  7. Evan, i'm not sure it will fit under the front seats... theres something else under both of them, i have no idea what they are thats down there, but it has model number rw-145r on it. couldn't find anything on the net... anyone know what these boxes and electrical thingies are? + wheels weigh too much. and then i'd need to carry a jack and all that to actually make it worth while carrying the wheel.
  8. Sam, I am in the process at the moment of installing some half decent sound into my car. as JP240z said, if you are after a basic system you can just go for a headunit and either a pair of speakers, or a set of 4 speakers. I am installing the headunit into the glovebox for both security reasons but i also want to keep the stock cassette deck there coz it looks sexy. I am then mounting a 4 channel alpine amp into where the spare wheel normaly is, again for security and so i cant see it. I will then be mounting some 5.25" speakers in custom fiberglassed pods above the rear suspension bits and some 6" JL splits possibly in the rear little panel facing forward. But im hesitant to do that as i will probalby have to cut holes in it. I mgiht try and find somewhere up front. I wont go on about it, but I will probably do a little write up once im done as i know there was at least 1 other person insterested in a headunit-in-glovebox-install. Back to what would be best for a simple setup. Putting a headunit in the glovebox isn't that tricky so i could recommend that. Putting speakers into where the stock ones are, in my 280 it was a lot of stuffing round getting bits off to acess the rear ones next to the passenger seats (does the 260 have them there) and they're only 4" mounts anyway. i'm rambling aqain - i'll leave it at that.
  9. well the mju770 doesn't have an external case to make it waterproof and all that, it just has good seals. its 7.1 megapixel but i'll get my bro or other friends who are into cameras to see if its other specs like the lens and all that is any good. should be good enough quality, I dont need the sort of crazy quality from an SLR. dunno about titanium... its got anti scratch-ness... hmmm. RE: wheels.... My car isn't really my financial priority at the moment, except for $80 i just spent to put some sound in it. I'm probably gonna blow 900 ish on a bike and then 600 on this camera. (just earnt ~1100 at the F1  ) I'll give my mate a buzz to see if he'll be down there once i get some dates for going.
  10. Where abouts at the F1 were you evan? I was working as event staff on the inside of turn 3 in the corporate section. By the way seeing as cameras are on topic, does anyone know if the olympus mju 770 is a good buy. Just been realesed. It's one of the water proof/shock proof/crush proof ones. i can get it for about $520 + xd card + case etc from dick smith. No online reviews as yet, but it looks pretty nice as i could take it diving and trail riding etc without worrying about it.
  11. well ive got an LD28 crank and i dont get at all good effeciency. but im guessing there'd be too many variables at play for that to mean anything. a tune may fix my effeciency to a degree though... hmmm...
  12. 2+2's may not look as nice, but we can carry 3 times the amount of passengers...
  13. You could give spotlight or somewhere like that a go if you're any good at sewing. A mate of mine with a holden VX wagon is replacing the checkard looking fabric in the door trims and other little bits in the interior with beige coloured fake leather stuff. I remember they had a maroon when i was there ages ago. Spose you want the stock furyish material though ey.
  14. yeah they look too big for 16's, id say they're 17's.
  15. The 280 has them, i spose they're sposed to be the luxury version of the S30! Mine are a bit funny though, you flick on the switch and they will start very slow and then build up to a normal speed. I think my bulbs or something might be on the way out... sometimes i get the fast-indicator-blinking syndrome.
  16. I too am going to paint my front bumper, tomorrow probably, fix it tonight then paint tomorrow. Just a couple of questions: - I am getting acrylic custom matched paint, $30 for 500mills i think it was, he said it was $65 bucks for a cheapish touch up air gun as well. I think there are better deals around on guns? suggestions? Are gravity fed ones anygood? or is air compressor the way to go. (im in eastern suburbs) - Also he told me I don't need primer, just use wet 600 grit paper on the bumper then slap on the paint basically (its a fiberglass bumper). Is this correct? I'm pretty sure thats what he said, I don't know heaps about paint but i thought a coupla coats of primer were needed. cheers.
  17. No idea how much experience you've had on eBay but just be warey of second chance offers, make sure its legit, but i suppose if he has several of them for sale then its probably actauly him emailing you, not a piece of poop scammer.
  18. I posted some pics of my repair work on my front fiberglass bumper some time ago, but i did a pretty crappy job as i used a bad filler which just crumbled away the first time i just touched a speed hump, and i also had evans smaller rolling diameter wheels on my car, hence making it lower and hence almost ripping the front of my car off going over a speed hump i didn't see. Anyway, I dont have a picture on me of the damage but i thoguht id get round to fixing it, its fairly split... the bumper is almost in 2 pieces! What Bog/filler/body stuff should i get to fill all the cracks and imperfections once i have actaully attached the spoiler back together with structural fiberglassing on the back of it? I have done glassing before, so i should be right there, but ive never used Bog, or whatever other panel beating materials i will need. Cheeeeers

    Sound System

well i've already got some bottom of the range JL audio splits i bought a couple of years ago which ill use. not fantastic bass considering they're 6"ers but the highs are quite exceptional which is what i want the most. and ill pick some 6x9's up off eBay. possibly some alpines, maybe some hertz if im feeling rich.

    Sound System

looks pretty setup. i think ill just go for a headunit to alpine amp to 6" splits and some others for the back. im considering making little boxes which will fit nicely into the corners in the back and something possibly similar in the front so i dont have to hack up any of the interior. once i get my wiring kit and another set of speakers im ready. might get some 6x9s to add a little bass.
  21. I was thinking of doing something like what Evan has done, with a massive touch screen LCD and a media centre PC. but mine wouldn't be touch screen, just an old laptop screen. Might not end up bothering though, maybe just a standard headunit will do the trick. anyway i dont wanna hijack this thread; heres the link if you wanna read/post about it: http://www.viczcar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=277 cheers.
  22. yeah im pretty sure my 280 stops if you go too far. i got used to it pretty quick though. My current immoboliser consists of popping the bonnet and unplugging the ignition coil. kinda annoying to do but better then the car not being there when you come back! Ill hook up something a bit better when i get round to setting up some sound. not sure what to go with yet though.
  23. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=108498&highlight=%22speedo+teeth%22 did i win??? i do remember another post though, not sure if it was on viczcar forums which had pictures and possibly more detail about it all.
  24. well today i finally after about 4 or 5 months got my zed registered and on the road with some plates on it so im now mobile in my 280zx!!! Must say cheers to evan for heaps of help with the wheels and sorting all that out. now i'm ready for a zed cruise! ill post a pic up (with never seen before plates!) maybe tomorrow once its washed and daylight and i can find a camera.
