  1. i am pretty new to the zed scene but i probably first set eyes on one only just earlier this year. It was instant love and i knew i had to own one for my first car, so for months and months i visited every website on the net and looked daily on every car site for 280's up for sale. i went and looked at one in geellong which was a piece of it and then about 2 months ago i found one on ebay selling in Newcastle. no one bid so i was in contact with him, flew up to newcastle, bought it and drove it home to melbourne. and here i am a month later with a reluctant father wishing i had of invested into a more practical and reliable car. pffft to that!!! i love her!
  2. yeah sounds good guys, i agree the car would look sweet lowered a tad but ill have to put in on the maybe list for further down the track, definately not a priority now. In terms of the actaul shocks, im not entirely sure of the deal, but it is fitted with ajustable nismo sports suspension. from 18 years ago or 50 thousand k's. so im not sure if that means its a completely new package or just the shock... i wouldn't mind tightening them up though for a tighter ride. How could you have better things to be doing then photoshopping my car Evan...
  3. to answer both posts: Yeah that picture you see there is from the previous owner when he was selling it (i havent got round to taking some good day shots, just a couple of night ones in the gallery section) so since ive had it ive taken off the headlight covers and mudguards whcih adds a lot. Explain the lowered springs to me, im not much of a expert in cars, still young and learning And yeah i have seen that gold/orange 280zx around about 4 times now, was about to ask if you knew him. I have to admitt before i bought my 280 i saw his orange one at the lights when i was waiting for a tram and got so excited i pulled out my phone and took a video and watched it over and over. haha, dam im cool! I will probably drive to uni a bit once i get my 280 going seeing as ive owned it for just on a month now and only driven it for a week! but, tram is the cheapest option so i think ill do that mostly. hopefully my car will be tuned properly and rego'd before too long so keep a look out for me.
  4. yeah i got my baby going today WOOHOO! but its its running bad and needs a tune desperately and has no rego yet so i wont be there.
  5. Thanks for the replies, ive finnaly managed to make it work, but its in desperate need of a tune. I'm not sure if i should be driving it in its current tuned state to go to be properly tuned incase i did a crap job and it may damage it. I'll give tony a ring at B&M as you guys suggested and see what he thinks. any idea how much he charges? i guess ill find out when i ring. cheers.
  6. I am at Swinburne Hawthorne campus doing first year Electronic Engineering. thinking of transfering to mechanical eng though. how about you?
  7. Thanks for doing that dude. Looks really good. I never got into the whole photo shop scene, presuming thats how you did it. Well yeah i think that looks good in black, i would prefer to just keep these mirrors, i rekon they look pretty good. Im also after doing the job pretty cheaply, i need to spend my money on a tune, alarm system then a bit of sound. and im also saving to buy a dirt bike , all whilst studying full time at uni. *boo*
  8. yelloz, My 1980 L28 has a K&N pod filter which is succesfuly fitted if that helps. Also just wondering what the legalities (is that a word) are with pod filters. i have heard different things from different people. First of all that they are just illegal full stop and also that you can either have a pod filter or an intercooler and the pod filter has to be boxed off. My 280zx came with a K&N pod filter mounted infront of the radiator (where the stock one goes i think) so it is completely away from the engine. The car is from NSW so i need to get a RWC for it... Do you think i should put the stock air filter on for the RWC or is how its set up legal, and would insurance (3rd party fire and theft) cover my car with the pod filter as is. thanks everyone.
  9. Bit of a boring poll but wanted to get you guys' opinion on what colour i should respray my side vision mirrors on my porchse red 280zx. Up until a few days ago i was thinking just the same red as the rest of the car as its a pretty safe option, but i thought a nice black might look better, as the interior is all black, and the plastic bonnet grills (1980 style) are black also, so it might add an extra something. I am respraying coz they are currently looking pretty terrible... all the paint is coming off (pretty sure they're not stock). thanks.
  10. I'm having trouble with my high beams as when i go to switch on the headlights they will go to parking lights fine but then when i switch it further, instead of going to normal beam it goes straight to high beam. I have tried fiddeling with it a bit and tapping it and moving it in all directions incase a switch was a bit crappy but nothing seems to really work. I then started pulling the surrounds of the dash where the steering wheel is off to see if i could locate the problem, but it seems there is something holding the top and bottom pieces together on the left hand side just infront of the windscreen wipper button. Has anyone encountered a high beam problem like this or know how to finish taking the front bit of the dash off? cheers.
  11. I have never done a sound system upgrade on a Zed but there should be about 12 wires for the stock tape deck. 8 for the speaker pos/negs (or does the 260 only have 2 speakers), 1 for the main power, 1 for ground, 1 for the aerial, and that orange one you speak of would go to the ignition like you said so that the head unit will turn on when the car is on. I think that'd be all of them unless if i forgot some. Then you just get the massive diagram which the modern head unit hopefully came with and join the wires from the new one to the ones which went to the stock deck. Except on the new one you wont need to connect the 'remote' wire and a few other crazy wires which are needed for things like sub amps etc. I plan to mount a headunit in the glove box of my 280zx in the near future but am concentrating of makng the car start first.
  12. Im still having trouble with my Wolf 2D ecu in my 280zx. I started talking about it in the alternator topic in electrical section where toecutter helped me but am starting a new thread as it has nothing to do with the alternator. Anyway my ECU reset itself for an unknown reason and the previous owner thought he had all the settings/fuel maps written down from the last tune but it turns out he didn't. Through the previous owner, I then found a 260z owner running an L28 with a haltech e6x i think it is, and am trying to get his fuel maps to chuck in my Wolf so it might actaully at least start. I havent heard back from him in a while now and am anxious to get the car on the road, so im putting a shout out to see if anyone has a fuel map or know what to chuck into the Wolf 2D control bit to make the dam thing work! i dont know much at all about ECU's so any help with this would be awesome. The engine is a 3.1L stroker with LD28 crank, L28 block, heavy duty tomoe pistons and custom nismo head if that helps. Thanks all.
  13. i just rang the wolf place and they said if i reset the ecu it wont go back to facotry settings it will go back to nothing. and want to charge $44 for me to send it to them and for them to check if anything is wrong with it. I think what i should do is try to obtain some numbers to punch into the ecu so it will actaully start and i can drive it, and then take it to get a tune, which it needed anyway.

  18. thanks for the responses. there now seems to be another electrical problem as a result of the battery losing its charge due to the alternator or whatever caused that. Once i charged the battery up again, the starter motor would kick in fine and the engine would occasionaly fire once but nothing more. i then had a look at the ECU control panel and all the settings had gone spastic... most of them have a setting of '99' and the rev limiter is set to 31780. i am running a Wolf 2D as the stock ECU apparently broke sometime back when the previous owner had the car. The most logical explanation i can think of is that the ECU reset itself when the battery lost a lot of charge. but then that goes out the window because the ECU didn't go spastic when i have previously had the battery not connected to the car. any help would be greatly appreciated... -Dave
  19. Bit of an old post but I just tried to start my ZX then and it appaered the battery hadn't been charged. I bought the new battery on sunday (6 days ago) so i figured the alternator must be buggered. Was there ever a solution to this problem? somone said it may have been the mechanical regulator, any suggestions?
  20. Ah well would you look at that, i did screw it. They aren't in order. Start from the bottom scan and read up, if you can be bothered reading it all that is.
  21. g'day all, this is my first post, I signed up yesterday. thought id put a few scans up from a magazine i got when i bought my ZX about a week ago, has a 3 page section on an imported and modified 1980 280zx from scuderia motorsports. The car is now in similar modified condition but it doesn't have the 7th injector business happening and now has 17" gun metal grey rims. (i think i have put the thread up correct, but sorry in advance if i screwed it)
