  1. Ahh cool, thanks Lurchos, although it is not "Vacuum" hose either?
  2. Last night I finally made up the hose. It loks alright, a few little modifications and I think it will be fine. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,12802.0.html Benny I think those hoses on eBay aren't specifically vacuum hose. They would work for a while but then they weaken and the hose would just collapse meaning no or little brake booster
  3. Vacuum Hoses My brake vacuum hoses are really starting to fray and it seems pretty much impossible to source moulded hoses that fit RHD vehicles. I read a post about a guy who used an internal wire to give the hose its shape. I have also been using a plastic braiding called FlexoPet to do the electrical wiring on a arcade game console I was making and figured I could use this on the car too. It doesn't look original but I think it looks pretty tidy. Here was my mockup, the wire I had on hand was too thick (first 2 pictures). I ended up using a coat hanger wire which seems to work alright although may be a little soft. Here is the clean hose next to the original: http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/Z/24tzd/240zBrakeVacuumHose.JPG And the braided sleeve hose next to the original: http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/Z/24tzd/240zBrakeVacuumHoseBraided.JPG Shaped hose with coat hanger wire and braided sleeve ready to go on : http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/24tzd/VacuumHose_003.JPG Old vs new comparison in car: http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/24tzd/VacuumHose_004.jpeg New hose installed (I was meant to trim a bit off of the manifold end of the hose but forgot so it is currently a touch to long): http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/24tzd/VacuumHose_005.jpeg Top view: http://www.shaun-maluga.com/Images/24tzd/VacuumHose_006.jpeg What do you think? The soft coat hanger wire means the bends aren't as 'sharp' as I'd like. I'll have to get something a bit thicker. I would also like to get some nicer hose clamps to finish it off. I am yet to go for a drive to see how it holds up to the heat over the valve cover. I have previously redone the electrical wiring on the alternator side of the car in this sleeving and it has held up fine with no issues.
  4. Ol Yella Sushi's 1973 240z I hang out on the forum a fair bit and just realised I don't have a build/journal thread for my 240z. I bought the car in August 2006 off of another forum member Nigel, you can see his feature on the car here http://www.viczcar.com/member-rides/nigels-stunning-1973-datsun-240z. Over the years I have been maintaining the car, buying new shiny parts and upgrading bits and pieces as I go such as adding an s14 gearbox. I just recently replaced most of the suspension bushings, tie rods, ball joints and wheel bearings under the front of the car and performed the Hilux caliper mod (I'll add a post on this later). I have also just order a rear disc brake kit from <a href="http://www.silverminemotors.com/Stage-4-Rear-Big-Brake-Kit-Stage-4-Rear-Big-Brake-Kit.htm">Silvermine Motors </a> which uses a caliper from a 2006 Mustang. I have also ordered the hardware so that I can finally install my 3.9 Subaru LSD (currently running the stock auto 3.54 diff) and replace the rear suspension bushings. Anyway I'll try and keep this up to date with the mods & maintenance I do to the car and update with pictures as often as possible!
  5. Count me in too Peter. I Think I have an aircon compressor to pick up from you too?
  6. http://www.racq.com.au/about_us/news_and_community/events/motorfest 14th of July
  7. I'm going, are you in the Qld Z Car Club Peter? There is a club meeting on tomorrow night, as per usual I won't be able to make it :S The last email said that a "club gathering point will be emailed out at a later date" For anyone who hasn't been before, it's a massive show, I've got a couple of pics up here but my camera battery died last year so couldn't show off how many cars were actually there (the large group shots of cars are just the ones from the Japanese section) http://shaun-maluga.com/?p=466
  8. Nice pics BigCol! Thanks for sharing!
  9. OK so I just used some wire I had lying around which is too big to actually use but it seems to work pretty well! I reckon if I can halve the diameter of the wire that would do the trick. Can anyone see any issue with having a wire internal to this vacuum hose (I would obviosuly trim it to be shorter than the rubber hose)? It should stay in place due to the kinks etc. Here is the clean hose next to the original And the braided sleeve hose next to the original. Does anyone know where you can by straight braided vacuum hose instead of using a sleeve like this? I would just need to cut and heatshrink the ends to keep it together then get some new hose clamps and good to go
  10. I just bought normal straight vacuum hose today for this. I'm going to have a go at bending a wire inside the hose to keep it's shape. I'll let you know how it goes. I noticed that Goodyear Rep says they can do moulded lines on their website, I'm not sure if this is a viable option though for one off's or small orders though. Definitely interested if anyone comes up with other ideas.
  11. Found photos on my hard drive the other day that I never uploaded from RACQ fest 2012 in Brisbane. Not a great deal of photos as my battery died during the day but still got a few of the Z's at least http://shaun-maluga.com/?p=466
  12. It's alright my parents live in Gladstone so I can get them to pick up or u to drop off?
  13. Ah right, I never got a msg :S I was after the chrome window trim bits too.
  14. Can you get a hold of any adobe products? Premiere and/or After Effects should do everything you need. You can use Handbrake to convert mov to avi I believe. http://handbrake.fr/ It's free too. Not for editing though. I just used it to rip The Dark Knight rises from a bluray disc that wouldn't play on my player. Full bluray hi-def with surround sound!
  15. erm I thought I was waiting on a price for this :/
  16. If these are rebuilt as described they are pretty good buying: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=271153415213&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:AU:1123#ht_500wt_1144
  17. GoPro HD Hero 3 on eBay Deals today, $228 with free postage: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SALE-BRAND-NEW-GOPRO-HD-HERO3-WHITE-EDITION-VIDEO-CAMERA-CAMCORDER-HERO-3-/221184359924
  18. I nearly bought a GoPro at the airport in Singapore as it was so cheap ($250 from memory) but I couldn't buy 1 pack that had the right attachments for cars and snowboarding (I will have to purchase the attachments separately). In Aus I buy my camera gear from http://www.d-d-photographics.com.au/. They source from Singapore and Hong Kong and are always much cheaper than retail in Aus. This site is cheap too but I haven't ordered from them before http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/astore/Default.aspx. My granddad just ordered a lens from them over Christmas and it was fine.
  19. Hey Peter, that's quite a ways away but I'm interested
  20. Hey mate can I grab the kick plates? Was there a reason you didn't use them? (fitment etc?)
  21. Nah no pieces in particular, I know I have a few bits lying around in my dads shed in Gladstone but not sure what they are. Just hoping I can make a decent set out of the parts I have. Just let me know how much you are thinking.
  22. Hey Tim, how much for the fuel gauge and the stainless steel trim that goes inside the windscreen/hatch rubbers?
  23. I was driving behind this on the M1 yesterday, anyones here?
