Watanabe Wheels on Ebay - Will they suit a 240 or 260z?
zedevan replied to gav240z's topic in Wheels and Tyres
seems to close to the price of a pair of new ones to me (since a set is around $2500 and this is only a pair?), they do look very nice though! -
how'd u do it so we know for if we see it in the future?! hehe i believe with all the s30 zeds you need the keys to lock the drivers door, with my car i need them to lock the passenger door too was holding up the handle doesn't do anything? the drivers do thing is the same on my mates pintara so i thoguht it was mayb a nissan thing, big generlisation though!
-
hmmm now that i look at it, particually in photos, it really doesn't look that jacked up in the back, so mayb it already has some king springs in the rear...it didn't up the front so i dont know whats going on. when i first walked up to the car it just looked so sexy, but mayb that was because i hadn't seen it in so long, and the front wasn't jacked up so it looked like the back still was, if that makes sense it could still be a fair bit lower, but atleast now the wheel well circle isn't concentric with the wheel!

my car is now basically roadworthy, everything that was on the orginal list has been done, except for the windscreen, which i'm hoping is one of the things they are happy to overlook. i took it to a more local place for a rwc inbetween and they wanted me to get a rust free drivers door, and while i have one i dont want to put it on if i can avoid it, and the time is now up with them so i'd have to pay again anyway. where as the orginal place didn't fill in the actual certificate so i can just take the car back. i had the front springs and shocks put in along with nolec? bushes i belive, and from towing it the whole 500metres from the mechanics to my gf's house it felt like all the play issues were gone, so now i just need to get the rear done sometime, and probably pretty soon as pushing down on each corner the front is ALOT stiffer. here's a pic of the front lowered, just low king springs (the rear currently has yellow springs so unsure whats happening there, should read through reciets that came with the car), would b nice to have it lower again but even this scraped alot more going into gf's driveway, so i really need to get some sort of ramp thingy to stop it doing so, and this is atleast a huge improvement anyway to the 4wd look in crx news the guy finally picked up the car to take it to his mate to get a quote or something like he wanted and its around the 7g mark, so definately a write off, just waiting to hear from him again...sure takes his time!

i just tested out putting petrol and brake fluid on the paint, brake fluid makes it very easy to scratch off and it goes all clumpy, but petrol just seems to give it a nice shine and not effect it much at all. i'll try oil in a bit, but i really should be doing homework...
-
i would of liked to have been there but was off funding the car hehe they pics look nice, any chance of posting some of them up at the orginal resolution? each car is so nice in it's own way, i want all of them...

thanks sulio, when the time is right i think i'll prob b going for some ROH wheels as their price is much more reasonable and aren't limited to the offset like with the other wheels (17" watanabes and the volk wheels etc) but until i buy some i'll still be on the hunt for ones that catch my eye (besides yours)
-
thanks alot NZeder, i actully emailed them and they are going to mail me a broshure so that will be here soon enough! for 9" i was quoted 17 x 8" $870 each & 17 x 9" $920 each, they dont do half sizes in the width, can do any offset, and then $110 per wheel for shipping (all prices in NZ dollar) so would end up being around $3500, and personally i dont think they are worth nearly double some ROH wheels, and if i were to go to that price range it opens up the window to all the jap 3 peice rims like the nice ones gav posted, or which you can get in 17X9 -6 and 17X10 +6, would these clear normal susspension and fit under the flares? they also have 17X8 - 6. The watanbe person said they dont make any negative offset rims in 17", but would 0 offset fit ok? (assuming they make them ofcourse) sulio do think you're wheel size is pretty spot on or would you get them slightly different if you were to get them again?

i voted for body work, as i have to back up what i did! which was pull off the rear hatch cover thing, and put on a front spoiler, even though this isn't really body work, and even though they can look alright without both of those mods when done up to suit. then any mods after that should also follow the order i'm slowly doing them in...i hope hehe
-
yeah rota make some nice copies, i wasn't able to find any places in australia that sell them, but some come up for sale every now and again. i wonder what offset is on them, tried reading though the hybridz thread quickly but to confusing! postage is around the US$400 mark so i personally dont think i'd bother, and get some proper 3 peice instead later on

how did u first fall for the z car and how did u get it
zedevan replied to pauly_adams's topic in General Discussions
when my older brother was looking for a car to buy he was interested in both lj toronas and 240z's, both of which he didn't end up buying due to rust and price, but he kept showing me pics of RPMz car and i agreed it did look nice, but they then went out of my mind due to the price. i knew a chick at schools dad rally'd one, and also some other family friends did i was then looking for cars and was thinking of either a sprinter, or a cordia, both of which would need an engine conversion, and i was leaning more towards a sprinter due to RWD and a nice common engine etc, but i also liked how cordia's bonnets went up backwards and they were cheaper, then my brother said to me "why dont you get a zed if you want a car with a backwards opening bonnet, and it actully looks nice" so after thinking about how it doesn't need much more than a spinter etc to become a really nice car (shocks, paint, engine etc) i started to look for one, but none were coming up in the price range i could handle, and i needed a car more and more gav knew i was looking for a car 5g or under that had a RWC and one come up on ozdat, i called the guy first thing in the morning and went and had a look, he'd had the car as his daily driver which he bought off an ex co worker who had bought it new, and basicially i have been driving it since. looking back now i should of spent a bit more and gotten a really nice example of a 240z as it would end up costing me less, but i've had fun, as while its not the most practical car (had the same things with my parents) it's done the job well, and now i have more money to spend i can put it into my first car and experience the transformation! my only concern is fuel efficentcy while using it as a daily driver and the rising cost of petrol... -
hehe, i have better things to be doing right now! but mayb later...either way its a fact the lower they are the better they look! i personally like the headlight covers on your car dave, but guess i havn't seen them off. i've got the front shocks and springs going into my car currently, and the rear going in most likely after the RWC (the front bushes are being replaced so while its all apart the fronts are going in since they were just sitting here) i bought it all second hand, you can get second hand king springs for around $100 ($220 or so new), but as sulio said u'd be best to change the shocks too most likely
-
i wouldnt mind some of the simmons alta rims, but they dont make them in 4X114.3 (even though they have made one set before), and i'd prefer to pay <$2g on rims due to the fact i dont have heaps of cash, but i might hold out for a bit as i've found other things to waste tax money on for now  i'm going to contact arrow wheels and see if they have a picture online somewhere of the watanabe style in 17"

i'm at swin doing product design eng, 3rd yr now, i dont feel like i've learnt much :S which is a bit worrying. there's a guy in 3rd yr mech eng now i think he'd b, and he has a gold/orange 280zx u might c around the campus a bit and he's also on here, do u drive to uni or train? i train it in so its pretty rare for my car to be there, specially since its currently off the road...hehe
-
yep photoshop, i did it as a small break between doing bits for an assignment in it for uni. which uni are you at and what are u studying? i know what you mean, i've had my car nearly 2 years and havn't done half the stuff i wanted to do to it due to money dissappearing elsewhere
-
hope this helps you decide! i'd be tempted to remove them and get the 280zx fender mirrors happening hehe
-
sure does sound pricey! i'd be interested in seeing them though, google didn't help produce a picture of them, so it'd be great if you could scan them in.
-
thanks, they look alright, from what i can find on the website though they only come in up to 16", but mayb its just out of date? up to 14" wide is pretty crazy! do you have a rough idea of the price of these?
-
what bushes did you end up getting nate? the group buy aint happening anymore i take it?
-
i photoshoped the rims to be bigger, they are really 16"s here's a link to the guys gallery, http://gallery.voodoo-people.com/austin and its a very nice car. this guy had custom shells made to get 17" rims in the size he wanted, looks dam sexy, but then u have to buy like a set of second hand rims from japan and then its a few grand to have them changed, or does someone know of a place in australia that would spin up some shells? i think i'll just go for some other rims with a black centre
-
i contacted Miki in regards to the prices of various styles and sizes and found out "all types of 17 inch cannot have negative offset" so getting sulio's wheel sizes isn't possible unless you get custom shells made like that guy in america. you can get one style (f8f) in 17X7 +24 and 17X7.5 +24 which i guess would fit under stock fenders, but is the same sort of price (around $2500 delivered) has anyone found a company that makes watanabe style 17" 3 peice wheels? i think panasport do yeah? i wonder how $$$

nah i'm working on sunday unfortunately the car doesn't have a RWC yet anyway, i've taken it to a mechanic i was recommended to as i dont have the time to do the last few bits, and would be more productive if i worked and used the money to pay someone to do it in half the time while paying them more than twice what i'm earning hehe it sure does need lowering, for the RW it needs work on the front steering rack, new front flexible brake hoes, the r/h tie rod joint and ball joint boot's both need replacing. then need to get the headlight switch to work instead of using my bypass switch (going to pick up zeddophiles one sometime) and then adjust the handbrake. the only remaining annoying bit is he says there is rust in the right hand door frame, but he didn't pull off the interior panel so i dont know what he's talking about, he said me bogging the skin is fine but i can't just bog the frame ofcourse, but i pulled off the interior panel and i can't see any rust in the frame so i'm going to go talk to him, as i'd prefer to leave my green door on there for now...so hopefully it can be on the road in a week or two, then koni shocks and the king springs soon after. when i was towing it to the place its at, a nice guy pulled over to offer to help push (thought it had broken down as was stopped on the side of the road) and turns out he has a 240z (so i told him about this site) and is selling some stuff to do an rb26 conversion to his so i might buy some of the stuff off him so i can keep this cheap insurance happening and get some performance happening too
-
i haven't had the balls (or time really) to try pouring different substances on it, but i will soon, here's a picture of the car back on the ground and after the wash, pity about what the bird left on the side...
-
i wouldn't "waste" any money on something you want to eventually change, unless its that cheap it doesn't really matter, but since you're raking it in now i think you may as well hold off doing the cheaper option for a bit and just drive the car as it is. going all out susspension would probably be the best way to spend the money given how u like to drive, and get a front lip too i'm getting koni's put in with low king springs as soon as my car is roadworthy, then i'm going to get a set of rims with tax money and maybe fender mirrors, seats, then start on engine. i dont like looking at how much i've earnt over the year then seeing how much i actully have , my aim for this year, like last year, is to waste less money

hmmm interesting, i'll have to try putting oil on my test door, i know i should of tested it more before i painted it onto my car, but i didn't do a perfect job so i dont really care, i just washed my car to take it down to hopefully get a roadworthy tomorrow (the parts i had painted felt very different to wash, the sponge slid over it alot easier) and i think it looks pretty good! i would of taken some pics but it was too dark
