  1. No link for the article, as it doesn't appear to be on their website anymore. though there is a pdf version of the article here: http://www.viczcar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=596 A farm in Vic you say. I guess that makes 2 sheds full of zeds. One at each end of the country.
  2. The link is broken Heres a pdf version of the article:
  3. Well the front half of a 2+2 is the same as a 2 seater, so you could say A 2+2 is half as good as a 2 seater.
  4. All built at the same plant I think. I guess Nissan regarded the left and right hand export cars as different models, and also the Domestic market cars too. For example there could be 3 different cars thought of as #230: HS30 - 00230 (That Australian car on ebay with the flares) HLS30 - 00230 (Left hand drive car, that probably went to the USA) S30 - 00230 (Japanese Domestic market car)
  5. Apart from being illegal....
  6. I asked Carl Beck, who runs the US register for Zeds, for help in dating your car based on the engine number. Because the engine numbers were unigue, unlike Chassis numbers for RHD and LHD cars, you can compare engine numbers with US cars to determine approximate build dates. He thinks its a late 72 or very early 73 complianced car. It depends on how often shipments of Z's arrived in Australia, as the date on the compliance plate is the date they arrived/were complied, not the build date. (build date at a guess he thinks around September or October 72). As we get more details on the Aussie register we should be able to narrow it down for you.
  7. Yeah good idea. I added it to the links forum, and maybe Gav can make it sticky.
  8. The WA Z Club have an Internet Register for All Datsun 240Z & 260Z cars in Australia and New Zealand. Similar to the USA one at Zhome. So Please register your car. Helps if you have your rego papers handy, or have a look at the registration form, and collect the required info before registering. http://www.wazregister.com/index.php?title=register_form I hope to add a feature where you can add a photo of the car in the near future. Gav, Maybe you can make this link sticky?
  9. Your mum must be high on the list of worlds coolest mums.
  10. Closest one I could find to yours is: HS30-100983 240Z 1/1973 Engine No: L24-151379 Yours would either be a very late 72, or early 73. Unfortunately the latest 72 I have info in is Gavins 2/1972, which is still a 5 digit chassis number. Whats the engine number? Is it the original engine? Please register your cars details at http://www.wazregister.com/zindex.php?action=anziregister
  11. Bonnet should be identical to a 240z, unless its the vented bonnet. More differences: Front lower radiator crossmember is deeper/closer to the ground, allowing for a bigger radiator. Top rad support panel has a Lip on that contours to the underside of the bonner (though later 73 240z's had this too). Rear A arms construction is different (where the spindle pin housing joins to the A arm - 260Z appears stronger maybe?). Front crossmember is reinforced where it bolts to the chassis. Engine bay has extra brackets for carbon canister, fuseable links, etc. Door catches may be different. Front valance pannel is different Seat trim is different. Interior trim is different (Not the same diamond pattern as the 240). Thicker sway bar (i believe, at least on the 2+2 it is).
  12. The L24 was rated at 151hp, not 160. and that was at the flywheel with no fan, waterpump, alternator etc. Just the bare engine on a bench dyno, with cooling and electrics supplied externally. The L26 was rated about 160hp in the same way. With the L28, the way they measured HP changed, in that all the extra bits (alt, fan etc) had to be on the engine. It was about 135BHP You can get more power from a 2.8 litre engine than you can with a 2.4. Its all about cubic inches.
  13. Dunno about the new Skyline, but the current skyline coupe is the same chassis as the 350Z, just looks like a maxima front end on a 350Z. I saw one driving down the road a couple of weeks ago. Must have been a private import, as I dont think they are available locally. Sounds like the new Skyline will be using the same V6 engine.
  14. When i say not cheap, i mean $1000 minimum. Actually i haven't seen one for less than about $1200 for a clutch pack one. ....except for the one I bought that was alot less than $1000 There was also a R180 LSD on there in the classifieds section. Dont know if it ever sold though.
  15. I thought all 260Z's would have had a R200, except maybe early '74 cars since nissan seemed to have had a habit of using up surplus parts, like when they used up the "series 1" 240z parts on "series 2" cars. But thats just speculation. (Also would have thought all 280zx's would have R200's too). Lambs, You know anything about 300zx turbo (Z31) diffs? Wondering if the 300zx turbo had a LSD? Sorry for the thread hijack. getting back to the LSD issue. Theres some good info on www.hybridz.org about swaping the R200 Short nose VLSD centers into the Longnose R200 housing. They also have people that have fabricated brackets to fit the shortnose into the S30 chassis. Also there a some R200 Long nose LSD's for sale on www.ozdat.com/forum/ but they arent cheap.
  16. P.S. people will pay between $600 to $1000 US (in USA or Japan) for a complete original set. (Rings, gaskets and plexiglass).
  17. Then you'd get sued by the wangan people. whats an emo?
  18. Haydens Green 240z is sold (aparently to someone in Perth). Is that the Yellow 240z you are buying? I bought a car from Adelade a few months back. I paid the money direct to the sellers bank account and arranged for TNT vehicle logistics to pick up the car from the sellers house, and drop it off to my house in perth. Apart from the 3 week delay (TNT are backed up sending cars to Perth) couldn't be easier. If I was selling a car I wouldnt let anyone take the car away untill the money was in my bank account. Sometimes you just have to trust someone. You can alway call the cops if you pay and dont get the car.
  19. They could have been swapped, as people like to do. What years were they? I've heard even the auto 280zx had an R180 from the factory. Info is from Oz Dat forums.
  20. I think you might find that early auto 260z's had R180 diffs, or so i've been told.
  21. Hey Gav, I saw you were bidding on some fender mirrors a couple of weeks back  http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290040054555 As for parts cars. I bought a 260Z 2+2 for parts ages ago, stripped it, cut up the chassis (It was way too far gone with rust, and had accident damage - gave parts of it away to another guy that was doing up a 2+2) and kept the rest. I sold off a few parts cheap that I knew I wouldn't need. I think I paid $500 for the car, and probably sold about $250 in parts so far. I still have all the suspension, diff, engine and gearbox, front end panels, seats, grill etc. I'm keeping the rest for when I finally finish the 240z and work out what I need and what I can sell. A parts car is defiantly the way to go if you have the space. You'll probably make money out of it.
  22. Well, since I was bidding on them....... The last set of nissan headlight covers that were on ebay, were also sold as is, without the plastic. ie, just the stainless steel loops. They sold for about $298 from memory. The plastic cover is the easy part to replace (I already have a set of the other type of cover, that you have to attach with little brackets), its the stainless steel surround that is no longer available anywhere. Someone in the USA has started making repros, but at US$400 a set, its a bit rich. I was only interested in the headlight surrounds, and had I won I would have probably re sold the other parts, recouping some of the money back. I have this car as a desktop background on my PC, and decided i must have these covers, but not at more than $300.
  23. A couple of things it could be. If the car was originally a Left hand drive car, and converted to RHD, the chassis number would be over on the passenger side (mirror image of where it is on the RHD car). But that doesnt seem likely. Another Possibility is the original cars chassis was damaged beyond repair, and the car was repaired using a replacement body shell from nissan. I hear that these replacement chassis didnt have numbers. I guess that this would had to have been done close to when the car was new (when shells were still available), and the cost to repair was less than a new car, otherwise it would have just been written off. Other possibility is that the car was "Rebirthed". Where the car has it's identity switched with a wrecked or rusted out one. Sometimes this is done because the car is stolen. Sometimes because a registered car is rusted or wrecked, and you have a another unlicenced car that you can swap the rego over onto, without going through the "propper" inspection process. I've had a couple of zeds with 2 chassis numbers. id/compliance says one thing, the stamping says another.
  24. Are you sure its Vintage? It there a Date on it, on a label anywhere? I'm think somewhere in Europe they still sell Datsuns new ( they still use the Datsun brand name instead of Nissan. I saw a brochure in some foriegn language with new Nissans, badged as Datsuns). Maybe its a newish shirt, and Nissan-Datsun from whatever country it is, sponsor a cycling team, hence Datsun on the shirt. Of course its Just a therory, and No, I've never seen anything like it. Have seen new Datsun jackets from thailand or somewhere.
