  1. I guess you didn't see the set of 240z lights that sold on ebay (usa) for US$500.
  2. Thanks Sulio. The Z I plan to put flares on has rear flares already. Smothed into the body, but I want to remove them and put ZG style ones on it - when i get around to it. It has chevoit hotwires (think they were 7 inch from memory) with 235 tyres on it. How did you attach your flares? rivets or bolts? Also the reason SR240Z doenst have 17 inch watanabes on it is because 16" is the largest they make in old school offset (R wheels). Their 8 spoke 17 inch (F8 wheels) smallest offset is +30 (one piece. 2 piece smallest is +15). which would probably not fit a 240/260z
  3. I think the main issuse here is mentioned in the last post. If they were offered as standard or an option by the manufacturer, they are allowed. Thats why you can put flares on your 4 cyl LH torana, or even swap in a V8 without any problems, because the V8 was offered in the same chassis. The overfenders were offered as an option, but I dont know if they were available in Australia as an option, which might be the sticking point with the cops if they decide they want to stop you and argue the point. You could get a permit for them, then they cant do anything about them.
  4. Just wondering how far the ZG flares stick out Sulio, say if you were to measure form the outside edge of the metal wheel arch to the outside edge of the overfender. Cheers.
  5. Your old door skin looked pretty good compared to mine What was the other side like? Heres mine:
  6. It would have had a compliance plate and a id tag, but over the years, for various reasons they get removed and lost. Would be interesting to see how early it really is. Post the chassis number when you look at it next, and I'll give you a rough guess as to what month/year it is.
  7. Colour is a personal choice. Its like asking someone what the best type of music to listen to. You are going to get lots of different answers, none of them are right or wrong, just different peoples opinoins. The best thing you can do is look at a picture gallery of lots of zeds of different colours and see what appeals to you. Heres some: http://www.wazcars.com/gallery/2005%20Z%20Day/ and http://www.wazcars.com/gallery/2004%20Z%20Day/ I dont like Light Metallic Gray is on a Z, but Dark Gunmetal Metalic Gray is awesome. like this one: http://www.sr240z.com/srpictures/26.jpg I've wondered what those colour changing paints would look like on a Z. I know a guy with a Supra that has that paint and it looks ok. People cant help but look at it when it drives by, as the paint changes from green/purple and gold depending on the angle. (Cheaper paints only chage 2 colours and dont look as good). http://www.nokternl.com/mesmerize/ But I did see a MGB painted with similar paint (was the cheaper 2 colour paint), and its looked really crap. I dont think that style of paint suits an older car like a 240 or 260, but its got the right curves so it might be able to pull it off. Would be interesting to see though.
  8. Where / How are you getting the Fairlady Z badges made up? I guess youd have to make them in plastic from a mould of the original ones? but then how do you get them chromed? I've seen original ones on ebay, but not often. In the flat space i'm going to have the Datsun rear badge on a angle, with the 240Z badge under it, but straight. As for removing the over-riders. A tip I picked up somewhere is to get a coach bolt and polish up the head and bolt that in the hole to fill it. I've never seen it done so i dont know what it would look like.
  9. Maybe i wasnt paying enough attention, but i didnt notice any turbos. Might have to watch it again. I've wached the daytime drive part a few times.
  10. Watched it. Recognised the word "blackbird" (thats what they called the porsche), and a couple of japanese phrases here and there. I believe it originally started as a comic book back in the 80's.
  11. P.S. Heres the video that I think comes from the playstation game. Think its the intro or something. http://www.pape.ws/allan_and_rosanne/Z-Car_Stuff/Darius/Daruis-Video/wangan.mpeg (12megs)
  12. Yeah there are a few games based on the Wangan Midnight comics/cartoons. Theres a Wangan Midnight game for the PS2, and there are the Initial D arcade games that feature the same wangan midnight 240z. And for those that dont know I believe that Wangan means bayside or oceanside. I think theres a long stretch of road or bridge that runs along a bay somewhere in Japan. Something to do with street racers racing along the road at night. somthing like that. Is this a anime move, or real actors? I read somewher about a movie being made, but the car they used was a 260Z instrad of a 240Z like in the anime. Wish I still had broadband. Got my bro DL'ing it for me. Now we just need some fansubs to subtitle it for us.
  13. I vote for black same as the flares. (if you didnt have black flares id vote red).
  14. They look like they should be on a F1 car. Dont know if I like them yet. On modernised looking z (big modern rims etc) they'd be ok.
  15. 280ZX's also use CV type hafl shafts.
  16. $300 to $600! Measure up the hole and go down to a pick a part type wreckers and start measuring. Gotta be cheaper than $300. Another alternative would be to cut out an electric sunroof from one of the wrecks and welds that in. Like this guy did: http://www.thezgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=183 With a 2 seater, you have to go with the type that pops up then slided back, like in the late 80's rx7's and supras. Or just have the hole welded up, like the other guys said.
  17. Who was it that told you about the new laws? Is the car licenced or unlicenced? I'd check with the council and find out exactly what it is you are alowed and not allowed to do. If its in the back yard in a closed shed, maybe its allowed. And check that they are council laws, not just housing estate, type "laws". Contact you local council member. As for noise, I'd check that to. Used to be that you could make as much noise between 7:30 am to like 5 pm, or something like that. Play extremely loud heavy metal music to piss them off and cover the noise you are making, but wear earplugs.
  18. Yeah I thought about $50, but the guy buying it thought about $25. I'd rather sell it than have it sitting around. I dont need it. Thanks.
  19. I have a 2+2 fuel tank that someone wants to buy off me, but i dont really know how much to sell it for. What do you guys recon a fair price is? Also a 2+2 tank wont fit a 2 seater at all will it?
  20. Check ebay. "Project cars" come up there some times There were 3 on there recently. Seach for 240z or 260z and check the completed listings box and you'll see what sort of Z 2 grand will get you. 22. Hi Gav You could awlay tighten the security so that new members have to be approved by and administrator before their account is made active. There a setting for that in the admin somwhere.
  23. link to the book on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Datsun-Z-Car-How-to-restore-your-Datsun-240Z-260-280_W0QQitemZ6978176397QQcategoryZ268QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Currently at $5.50
  24. Theres a How to restore your Z car book that covers all the basics. Cost about $50 I think, but theres one for sale on ebay at the moment. The Haynes manual should be able to help you out with the wiring. Theres also a PDF of the 260Z service manual floating around on the internet, so you dont have to buy the haynes manual if you can find it. As for inspiration, check out Kents 260Z 2+2 http://www.wazcars.com/index.php?action=membercars&member=kent This baby looks like it just rolled out the factory yesterday.
