  8. Probably not for road use as much. I guess it depends on how you drive your Z. It will reduce body roll around fast corners. Sulio (member: toecutter) seems to think he noticed a huge difference when he installed a set on his Z a while ago.
  9. Hi everyone, In order to reduce the overall repetitiveness of certain questions asked by many new comers I have been considering adding a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) section to the site. This would hopefully allow new owners or potential new owners to get the answers they seek. Or I guess they could use the search function lol. Anyway I want to compile a list of common questions. Below is a list I think would cover most questions. What year zcar is the best? (Subjective to opinion but an all too common question). What is a zcar worth? How do I tell the difference between years? What changed in what years? (kinda the same as above) What engine(s) can I swap into a Z? Where can I get x part? What do 240z carbies look like? Why are 240z carbies better? What sidedraft carbuerettors will work? Should I replace my twin SU's with a single downdraft carb? Can I upgrade my rear drum brakes? What brake upgrades can I do on a budget, or no budget? Common problems with 30+ year old Zcars Where do they rust? - Answer everywhere! Should I import a Z from Japan, USA, UK etc..? Should I get a Zcar for my first car? I can't think of anymore at the moment. If you have any ideas add them to the list.

  11. Hi everyone, thanks for the feedback. I'm going with option number 2 since it's similar to what I was doing back home and it will allow me to continue to improve my web development & design skills. The car magazine folks just couldn't come to the table with enough money. The difference was $13,000 Euro between that and my highest offer so I just couldn't say yes to less money. The good news is that there seems to be lots of demand for someone with my skill set so if it doesn't work out I'll just go elsewhere. Gonzo, As for getting an Irish girlfriend, it sounds great but my girlfriend of 5 years wouldn't like it. Plus my current girlfriend is a good cook . If only there was enough money in early Zcars back in Australia, but there just isn't. It's a hobby and passion not a career, ah well. I went overseas to travel and have fun so I guess I should stick to the plan. Also I do want to start my own company, but I think that will come a bit later on. Probably when I get back home.
  12. I think it's the same thing as sandblasting. See here: http://www.lowridermagazine.com/tech/0604lrm_rust_removal_media_blasting/index.html
  13. Hi everyone, I am having a slight dilemna. I have been in Dublin (Ireland) now for at least a month. I have been to several interviews for various jobs. My background is in IT and when I was in Melbourne I was working for a large internet based service company. I was in their online marketing department helping people with search engine marketing and website marketing, however one of my passions is web design. I have been looking for a role that offers both and I have found some and been to at least 10 interviews. It's now really down to 2. I have been offered 2 more but they don't really interest me as there is no design work with one and the other is a low pay rate until after a 6 month review. Here is a description of each of the finalists: 1.) Media Company with Several Car & Entertainment Magazines. They produce car magazines Yay! and it's a really young working environment that seems like loads of fun. However pay wise they are the lowest offer I've had so far, although they are happy with a commission system depending on how well I go. We haven't clearly defined the goals yet or targets but I could potentially earn as much as job #2 or even more. There is also a cool social life attached to this job with media conferences and other promo's and fun nights out. This role involves some design work and unfortunately having to use some Flash (I think flash is pretty useless) but also some search engine marketing and website usability work. I should also point out that I wouldn't be involved with the car magazine's to start with but could possibly move in that direction over time if things pan out with another website I'd be managing for them. 2.) Search and Web Marketing Company Seems like a really cool place to work but alot smaller with a team of maybe 7-8 people. Working primarily with search to begin with but working toward web design down the track. Pay is better for a base salary and I had to work pretty hard with this one. I had 2 interviews and I had to prepare a presentation for the company stakeholders. Both require travel. I guess I am asking a silly question here. I mean we are all car enthusiasts, but both represent a great opportunity for me. So I'm looking for some opinions and keep in mind that rent here is expensive 950 Euro per month. Cheers, Gavin.
  14. I think from memory this is the return hose from the heater core. It should plumb into the firewall. This is actually a good reference picture since many cars have had this removed due to a leaky heater core.
  15. Hi Mate, It would be great to do a feature on your car, however i'm not in Victoria. I have moved to Ireland for a working holiday. When you are finished and back on the road we can do a feature then. As soon as I get a chance I'll send you a document that you can use to fill in the details about your ride and I'll transfer that into an article to place on the site. Cheers, Gavin.
  16. I'm not so sure about those to be honest. They just don't work for me. Warren if your going to all this effort with restoration I'd keep looking for a "real" set of originals or try find a second hand one that's in need of TLC.
  17. Cool Sulio, how far away now?
  18. Hi everyone, As you may or may not be aware, I am away and living in Dublin (Ireland). Before I left I messaged a few Z owners to do a feature on their car, however they have been a bit slow in responding. I currently don't have a computer here and have to rely on internet cafe's so I'm not too fussed. However as nice as George's car is, I think it's time for another article. If anyone know's of a cool Z or has a cool Z that could be featured please let me know or let the owner know that we would love to do a feature. The only requirement is that it should be an early Z. Thanks for the help and it's good to see the site going well in my absence. Cheers Gavin.
  19. Yeah holiday is good but I am having withdrawals from a normal routine such as work and daily gym visits. I might go to New York or Amsterdam for a few days . I'd give Sulio access but he's not really too literate on how all the web hosting in and out's work so he'll probably just bring the site down LOL. (sorry Sulio couldn't resist). It's really more of a web hosting management issue rather than an actual site issue. Other than the bandwidth issue it appears the site was running fine without me for a few days.
  20. Hi everyone, Sorry about the downtime, it appears the site has been busier and busier each month. As a result our old bandwidth cap did not do the job. Before I left for Ireland I set it to 10gig but it seems we managed to exceed that so I have set it to 25 gig now. We shouldn't have anymore problems. This was not a web host fault rather a setting that I can modify. I am looking for a new laptop computer so that I can get online here, in an Internet cafe for the moment. Hope everyone is doing well.
  21. It looks like a lot of hard work and a really well thought out project, I'm sure once it's painted it will look really really mean and it's great to see another widebody Z I think they look fantastic. To me though it's a bit of a shame he picked a 240z over a later Z like a 260z or 280z. Being in the US though early 240z's are much easier to find than the rest of the world so he was probably not thinking along those lines at all. In Australia though the early 240z's are getting so scarce that modifying one to this extend would almost seem a shame. I've never been that keen on different tail lights on a 240z myself, but that's only a minor thing. It's very extreme though so you'll always upset a few of the more purist.
  22. Hi Atticus, As the others have said the vehicle is way over priced. For the same money you could get a much much cleaner example. I had a look last night on carsales.com.au and saw a couple of beauties. There is a nice green 260z 2+2 I think it might be in tassie, however sometimes you need to look a bit harder and buy interstate if it means getting the right car. In my experience you are much better investing 2-3 or even 4k more into the right car to start with than buying something a bit rougher and painting it etc.. You will save yourself alot of hassle and enjoy the ownership process a whole lot more. Not to mention less time off the road. Do an aus wide search on carsales.com.au
  23. Hi Spdrcr, Do you have contact with the owners of the cars pictured above? Particularly Jim's 71 240z, I saw it in 2005 at the Nationals and was impressed. Much more beautiful in person than pictures mind you. I'd love to do a feature on some of these cars. Also if you have more pictures it would be great if we could add them to the gallery for future reference. Rather than have them in a thread. If it's easier you could send me a CD (although I'm leaving for Ireland soon) or I might be able to set up FTP details so you can upload them to the site that way. Cheers Gavin.
  24. Steve for a budget build I would suggest the following combo: L28 Block F54 / N42 Head giving 10:1 Compression Ratio Give the engine head a tidy up but nothing too drastic. I'd put a mid range cam in it to give it a bit more life. Electronic distributor E12 Module (Make sure it's advancing - might need a rebuild) 240z SU's with richer needles (SM needles apparently are good). Then I'd focus on a better ratio diff say 3.9 (LSD if you can) Match it with a close ratio box (260z 5 speed) It should go relatively well then. However even with those milder mods it will still cost you a few thousand dollars for the parts. I guess it depends how resourceful you are.
  25. Ok guys, As they say time waits for no man and well everyday it gets closer to my departure to Europe. I will be storing the Z and I suspect it won't get cranked over too often. I will probably ask mum to give it a kick in the guts here and there but it probably won't be driven much at all (if at all). So what are your storage tips, so when I eventually get back getting her up and going again won't be too hard? I am thinking the following might be in order: Disconnect Battery. Spray Cylinders with WD40 Drain Brake and Clutch Fluid Cover with car cover Anything else you guys would recommend?
