Cars For Sale (3rd Party Sites) Ebay, Carsales etc..
gav240z replied to gav240z's topic in Cars For Sale
Anyone see this? http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=10201873 Pretty average looking for the asking price. Think he's dreaming at that asking price and it's auto! Good points are original paint and interior. Needs a good refresh though and you'll spend a good amount of coin doing that. Seems nice and straight though. -
I should point out I think the problem is I don't have "a" dream car I have "many" dream cars . For me 2 cars I always lusted for were the S30Z and FD3S RX-7 and I now own both . However there are many many more cars I adore. I'll post them later though.

+1 to that. Or a 4 rotor RX-7

+1 to what the others have said. You are doing an awesome job matey.

Emailed a few people directly but as of yet no replies. It's good to have a new featured ride on the site as it attracts potential new members to the site and brings in traffic from all over the "internets". So does anyone want to put the spotlight on their Z. It doesn't have to be finished, heck as long as you can tell a good story or have a good story to share our members will love it. Or would you guys rather I picked 1 of you? Are you all too modest?

Happy Days.

I love how motivated you are, you inspire me to pull the finger out with my own ride. Which brings me to a question re: Clay Bar I've read about these too and seen a few videos on the net about it. I wanted to use it on my FD before trying to polish it up as the paint is a little dull (especially around the roof). Do you have any tips for working with the stuff or is it pretty fool proof? Also any particular brand?

I'm getting rid of an XR5 Turbo focus to buy a Zed....
gav240z replied to Tj's topic in Introductions and Forum Etiquette
Not crazy at all, but then again you are asking a bunch of crazy people if you're nuts . Nice conversion of the Galant looks very tidy. I'm sure you'll like it here with all us crazies. -
Can I post second dibs on the door cards? I was going to buy OEM too, but still not sure if I'll return my 240z to it's original silver in which case I'd very much like a set of red / burgundy door cards to suit the silver exterior. I would be in no rush to ship them to Victoria since I am of course overseas so we could work out shipping whenever really. BTW those carbs are an absolute bargain IMHO.

Yeah dirt cheap over there. I seriously considered importing a Californian S30 to Ireland. It wasn't going to cost all that much, but knowing Z's I was worried about hidden rust that photos over the net wouldn't show. Good thing how cheap it is to keep classics registered. You know what I miss about owning, driving and fixing the Z in Australia is the community of owners. If I could have found a 240z cheap enough here I would have bought it, but as it turns out the FD RX-7 was going to be pretty damn cheap, to buy that is, not own. I also thought I should venture out and own something else otherwise I'd only own S30's all my life haha.

Welcome champ, Well as Dimitri mentioned good cars have come up a few times, plenty of unfinished projects come up. I think enthusiasm wanes when the car is off the road too long and the massive task of getting it all done seems daunting to many. Not to mention funds dry out. You can definitely take advantage of that and pick up a gem when someone is moving house or their better half is in their ear to "get rid of that damn car, it's in the way". . To quote one of our new members "Out of all the cars I've owned the 240z is the most fun". I'll have to agree with that, it might not be the fastest or the best handling by today's standards but it's definitely 1 of the most fun cars I've ever driven. Even the ones with shot suspension, worn brakes, destroyed bushes, shot steering racks. They are still loads of fun to drive. Good luck.

Mate I know how you feel I recently purchased 2 different things from the UK for my FD RX-7 1. Brake Kit at £400 of value. Front rear discs + pads. Never showed up. Have been trying to sort it out for 2 months. Courier apparently lost it, they only wanted to refund £50 as that's all it was insured for. I should have said to seller insure for whole amount, but let him take care of details. Big mistake. Hoping to at least get some of my money back. He's still trying to call different depots to find it. 2. Bought an intercooler kit off eBay with various other parts like oil catch can, Greddy intake elbow etc.. Again never arrived. This time is was sent to other side of Ireland (West Coast). Called the guys who apparently signed off on it and they have never seen it. Since it was purchased via eBay I got a refund via PayPal and the guy genuinely tried to help sort it out. I paid £350 for the Trust Intercooler and piping was more upset I didn't get the parts. So I'm still £400 pound down and need rear brakes, when I drive the car I hear grinding from rear brakes. Sends me nuts, lucky it's only a weekend car. Anyway at 1 point I was seriously thinking I should just sell the RX-7 and not own a car. I've calmed down a bit now but the experience has taught me a few things. A. Always insure the package for full amount even if it costs more. B. It's better to buy from a company / business even if it will cost a bit more than buying (unused second hand). C. Buy in person if you can, much better to deal face to face and see the parts. D. Use PayPal if dealing online. E. If you buy a package from someone on a forum ask them to send a photo of the items in the box before being sent. Ask for tracking ID from the start and keep an eye on where it is using courier website and tracking ID. I'm sure I've learnt something else, but now I forgot haha. In all honesty in all my years dealing with Zcars and Zparts I've never had a problem. It's only been since dealing with RX-7 related stuff. I'm hoping it's just coincidence, but man there is nothing worse than paying for something and not have it arrive. If you want my opinion on your L28 turbo. I'm guessing your current motor runs fine. So just start building your own L28 Turbo on the side slowly over time. At least you will learn something and know it is a good motor, buying second hand you never know who built it and how well. My 2 cents.

A pair of Datsun 240Z NEW OLD STOCK (BRAND NEW) Tail lights
gav240z replied to zed24t's topic in Parts and Tools for Sale
Datsun Restore in the US used to make replica lenses but their website is down. http://www.datsunrestore.com/ If you don't care for the Koito branded lenses then that would be your best bet. Otherwise you are looking to try and find an NOS set via Nissan or eBay US. -
Awesome Lurch, looking the goods. Is that your ZX?

Hi everyone, I think it's about time the homepage got an update, just been really busy with work so I haven't had a chance to follow any of this up. Just emailed a couple of you about feature cars but if anyone else is interested please let me know.

Awesome mate, I really like the Gnose and I think it's really under appreciated. You have to see a proper version of it in person. So many cheap copies have destroyed the look. Make sure you go with the original colour scheme too, it won't look right all white. Has to have that 2 tone. It will look amazing I'm sure. The dilemma going with the Gnose was expense of getting a good 1 and using ZG flares. Still not sure I want to chop up the guards on the old girl yet.

Man up and just bring 1 home, so long as it won't send you both broke you'll be fine. Man needs a hobby after all.
-
They are pretty hard to get now mate, I found a spare set in average condition on eBay. I think I got them around $200 AU, by the time you pay for shipping and cleaning them up (re-plastic chrome) and paint the black line on them, polishes the lenses and remove cracks etc.. I think you'll be around $350-$400 in. So if you can find a good set of OEM ones close to that I'd go for that. Although I've seen em' on Ebay US for $900 or something ridiculous like that. If I was in Australia I'd try and help you out, but currently not. So hopefully others can help you out. Might be worth asking someone with contacts in Japan for them.

Happy Birthday Matey, hope you had a great day.
-
Hi Guys, Just caught this on Youtube and thought you might also be interested: I particularly liked the restoration process. I'm not a huge fan of building so many replica's of them out of the poor old girls, but if I could own 1 of these I wouldn't say no .

Hi from a soon to be Z owner
gav240z replied to Aliangus's topic in Introductions and Forum Etiquette
Welcome mate, Historically we were a Victorian Based site, but a couple of years back we shifted to a more National level. There tends to be more Z owners in NSW / Victoria, followed by QLD, Adelaide and WA. So more activity from Victoria / NSW in general as a result. A good 2+2 will show up eventually, in fact I've seen several and they always tend to be very well priced for what is a great car. -

I'd be very careful about buying this car based on the shock tower re-drilling alone. -

Not quite, but I guess it depends on how you read it . No the 260z (better chassis) was fine it was all the emissions stuff under the hood that wasn't so flash. -

gav240z replied to specialp3's topic in General Discussions
FYI: The 73 240z in the Australian market always had the round top SU's. It was the US model that got emissions carbs in 73 not the Aussie market. In Australia it was 74 that saw the introduction of horrible flat top SU's along with the 260z model.
