  1. Do you think that colour is original for the year? It would seem HS30's didn't start on that colour until 1971. I don't tend to see the very early cars in that shade. 919 Yellow.
  2. That colour doesn't seem to have arrived until 72, so I'm not sure it's an early car. It might have had a rear hatch installed with flutes in it or it may have had the console converted to a later style 1 with a later gearbox. I would be interested in seeing the driver door jamb plate which has date of manufacture for HLS30's in North America.
  3. So a bit more progress on this. After great hesitation to cut the vents into the hatch after taking ages to shape this piece I finally took the plunge and started it. I measured the inner lip which was 5mm and traced a square inside of the outer marketing for where the vents go. Then I drilled 2 holes and used a saw (see photo below) to cut a line between the 2 holes. This is what I had after. NB: The pitted metal was due to surface rust build up from having left it sitting so long unprotected. I'll sand it down to clean it up before paint. Double-checking it all still aligns. 5mm lip on inside of original piece. Once the holes were drilled and the line cut, it's time to use the tin snips to trim the inner square area. This is tricky and tedious work, plus time consuming. I've certainly got a lot better at using tin snips since I started working at the TAFE - I was all thumbs in the beginning... Before tidying up with a file. Compared to original piece. My biggest concern was making sure they were aligned correctly. Otherwise I'd always notice it... The lower section vent holes look smaller. That's because they are, I still need to bend the inner lip on them which will increase the size of the holes and give them a rounded/beveled edge. Since you can't just bent a perfect square shape, first though I need to file the edges to give them a rounded shape. I do this with a rounded file. You want to aim for a shape that reminds you of dogs bollocks lol... Then I quickly overlaid the new panel on the hatch to see roughly how it will look.. The vent hole on the far right has the inner lip partially folded, still got to do the others. Takes quite a while to do fiddly stuff like this. Honestly if I could find a rust free early hatch, it would have been far less work. However they are very hard to find now and most of them have lots of rust around the bottom. So I'm persisting with this 1.
  4. I'll have to sit down and figure it out, shipping is expensive due to size and when you put 3 pieces of sheet metal together they actually have a bit of weight too. From memory they should be around $450-$500 each.
  5. Just received lower valance/beaver panels to suit a 240z.
  6. I've heard that the "Noah" covers are meant to be really good. http://www.covercraft.com/cartlink/index.php?cust_id=covercraft&prod_id=ccnh I haven't had any first hand experience with them yet though. I was thinking of getting 1 for my RX-7 which mostly sits in a garage.
  7. I don't believe that, you should be able to balance wheels without damaging them badly. This is the problem with cowboys that run tyre shops.
  8. Buy them new mate, they are literally all cracked from age now. http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/40-2954 I'm sure you can get them cheaper than this though!
  9. A Holden Camira was the most reliable car I ever owned, said nobody ever.
  10. More videos of the sexy beast. Check out this 2+2 pretty wild.
  11. This 1? http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/13521-s30z-specialists-in-japan/
  12. There is a phone number in a couple of the ads, why don't you interested blokes put in an offer outside of eBay? At the end of the day the car will sell for whatever is the most someone is willing to pay for it. Always buy the car based on it's condition, colour is the least important factor in my opinion. I saw it in person and it's nicer than you'd think, almost had a red tinge to it. The interior was not my cup of tea along with other customisations of a questionable nature, but the rest of the car is pretty solid. It fired up first go and had a good noise to it. It's my humble opinion that it's worth at least 35K AUD. I wouldn't be surprised if it went higher though. However the only question marks I'd throw up were the form of textured paint all over the rust prone areas, they are either there to prevent further rust or could (and I say this cautiously) used to hide indiscretions. However I honestly don't believe this is the case, it really did look solid to me and well cared for by previous owners. But.. I didn't get it on a lift. The photos show a lot of little details I had forgotten. https://picasaweb.google.com/107400787026175995661/Pickles73240z2014?authkey=Gv1sRgCPyAle70j6DySw&feat=directlink It could well end up being exported like some recent examples...
  13. The problem with those might be shaft wear and axial play, hence my suggestion to go for a newer unit. Let me check how good this spare unit is for you. It looks rough though...
  14. Tentatively sold. Will update when confirmed.
  15. Think this car is now in the hands of member: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/user/102270-axe2it/
  16. Hi Guys, I've had a few people asking about this crank, I've had a couple of offers but at this stage I'm not willing to go below $1,400 posted. (Assuming postage is $100 to your location).
  17. It will be interesting to watch alright, if the seller was smart they would list them at different times.
  18. Honestly 280z's rust just like 240z's and 260z's. They may not be as rusted now as 240z's are but there is still a lot around in the US and North American markets. If you import a rust bucket and it's LHD you'll need to weigh up restoration costs vs what it's worth. At least with a RHD 2 seater AU delivered it will hold more value and the money you spend on importing the car can be spent on rust repairs instead. I looked at importing a US 240z at 1 point, car looked good in photos but the seller was an absolute *insert appropriate term here* and I had the car independently inspected which revealed quite a hard front end smack and pretty average repair work at best. A paint depth gauge seemed to indicate quite a bit of bog all over too! So when I factored in purchase price + import fees etc.. It suddenly looked like a lemon. Just be careful importing an old sports car that has had a hard life and maybe not so great repairs. I'd put your money toward a local example if it was my first S30z endeavor. As someone once said to me "photos hide a lot of shit".
  19. That looks familiar, this is why I'm not a huge fan of the standard 280zx distributors. They have had a hard life by now and between the vacuum advance, the ball bearings in the plastic cage and the magnetic pickup they are all FUBAR. I have a spare 280zx distributor I was going to rebuild for shits and giggles to see if I could make any good use of it. However I'll need to spend some time looking up the part no's of those broken bits. You might want to ask Lurch what aftermarket distributor he uses on engine builds he is doing lately. I believe it's probably a cheaper / better way to go unless originality is important?
  20. Alex do you know a good fastener supplier in Sydney region for sourcing stuff like this?
  21. This 1 has been on eBay a while now. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-240Z-280Z-Short-Wheel-Base-2-Seater-2-8L-5-Speed-Nissan-/252293861531 Worth looking at if you're thinking about it, as import costs alone are likely to cost 7-8K AUD.
  22. It is the same car that was on Gumtree a while back HS30 00958 See Early Girl Bingo thread. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/13773-early-girl-bingo-with-photos/ and earlier in this thread. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/1924-cars-for-sale-3rd-party-sites-ebay-carsales-etc/?p=166961
  23. Geez you blokes reply quickly lol... Here is more photos of the Pickles 240z when I went to look at it. https://picasaweb.google.com/107400787026175995661/Pickles73240z2014?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCPyAle70j6DySw&feat=directlink As I say happy to talk about this car with anyone seriously thinking of buying it.
  24. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-240Z-coupe-/151990757995 1973 Datsun 240z. L24189527 Current Price: AU $24,000.00 with 6 days to go. I went and looked at this car personally when it was for sale at Pickles Auctions in Sydney. (March 17th 2014) Here is a couple of videos of this car. It last sold for $24,000 + commission which I actually think was cheap at the time considering how well the car presents. It was by no means perfect, but it's an older restoration and the engine seemed very healthy (fired up right away) and the car appeared very solid. There is a thread on here also when it was last for sale quite a few years back now (around 2005? maybe) and memory seems to think it sold for $18k back then. The car has not changed much since the last few owners. I was inspecting the car for member Alfadog who wasn't sure if it was worth that much at the time, but I honestly thought it was worth at least 30k a couple of years back. Interior sucks and looks daggy in my opinion, but would be easily rectified. If anyone would like to ask me more about the car just let me know? Hope it stays in Australia. . Brown looks better in person than the photos.
  25. Hey Luke, Any updates? Just looking at your thread and saw the rear hatch slam panel repair work.
