These are earlier style 44 MM Solex / Mikuni's. Nicknamed "Mag" Solex carbs. Mikuni/Solex - NPHH-2 (Type 2) These look like the 50mm versions, but are in fact only 44mm. Also found on Datsun Roadsters with the U20 motor sold in Australia (Solex/Mikuni N44PHH-A5a is the designation). Z432-R photo taken from Alan Thomas (Facebook post). These carbs have been fitted later (not factory fitted). General FYI: Be careful the screws are different and the throttle shaft is clocked differently. Also be careful with the threads. Zinc is really soft and the thread pitch is totally different.

Solex-N40NPHH-A15 carbs. As the numbering suggests these are 40mm sidedraft carbs. These were fitted to the S20 motor found in the KPGC10 GTR

Ok, so I've been looking at a lot of places recently to source some Triple Mikuni 44 carb bodies and I keep coming across different versions of these. So I figured I'd start a thread with photos of each style so that we can all more easily identify these carbs. Contributions and corrections are welcome along the way.

I see those carbs have part no. 21100-88236 which appears to be off a RA28 Celica. http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/threads/12578-Mikuni-Solex-Carbies

I love some of the work going on in here, thanks for making me realise how little progress I've made of late. RE: Aftermarket replacement parts I've heard they can be a fair way off. For that section on my car I just fabricated it, it's a basic curve really. But if you don't have a roller it's probably easier to buy them. The welds on the 1/4 windows are probably because the tabs have a habit of breaking off, on #150 I've got that problem on the driver side glass. You can also polish stainless with steel wool and WD40 works well.

For some reason there were rumours for years that someone in Melbourne used to sell large quantities of S30Z's back to Japan for mega profits (late 90s). However I spoke to someone about this who informed me of a few that went back, but said that many Fairlady Roadsters were actually sent back. So whilst quite a few AU delivered S30Z's probably have ended up back in Japan, I'd say there is likely to be many more Roadsters and Roadster parts.

Pretty sure it's a form of variable resistor (dimmer).

Is this only on 73/74 S30Z's? I'm surprised AU market cars had these fitted? Perhaps Nissan intended to fit hazards and illuminated panels and didn't go through with it?

There is a company offering reproduction of original tyres. Very expensive but if you want original... I'll see if I can find the link. http://www.restore-an-old-car.com/classic-car-tires.html

Yeah I think a 2 month difference between build month and compliance plate is a good rule of thumb. Obviously only works for cars that had 1 fitted to begin with.
-
Compliance date, I assume you're referring to here? Which would make it a late 70 build (December).
-
I'd speak with a local specialist like Stewart Wilkins. http://www.swmotorsport.com.au/ He's helped build many successful rally and race cars. Importing stuff is expensive, not only because of size/weight, but also because of import duties on anything over $1000 AUD.

Well.. assume we got about 350 (HS30's) in late 1970. Now assume a 20% survivor rate.. leaves about 70 cars today. I'm not surprised. Hope owner is on here and shares some photos! I haven't seen this car yet... -
Cool I've got the same yellow marks on parts of my FD RX-7. I believe the explanation that it indicated being torqued to the correct spec is bang on. Just another little detail for those wanting to replicate the factory look.
-
I think when most advertise as 1969 model, it is out of ignorance not malicious intent. Either way a low vin HS30 like this is very rare and this car appears to be relatively complete and original. If you want an early 240z it is slim pickings in Australia for 1.

HS30 00291 I don't have a record of that car. Could have been 905 red... -
Most HS30's were NOT made in 1969, I suspect this car is a very late 1970 (December) based on chassis no. A lot of Australian S30Z owners over the years were under the impression that the first 240z's here were 1969 produced but that's not the case. It's possible HS30 0003 was made in 1969 but since we haven't been able to find that car we haven't been able to check date stamps of parts on it. It's likely that HS30 0004 was made in early 1970. Going by Engine number. In fact this car is 1 or 2 engine numbers away from the earlier crankshaft design issue they had with early L24's. Which almost all 1969 made 240z's had as an issue. Now it could be that it was made in 1969 but had to wait until 1970 to receive it's revised motor before getting shipped out to Australia for testing..but that's just a theory of mine. HS30 00150 was made in September/October 1970. Compliance date was Nov 1970. So that should give you some idea.
-
Original radio in this 1, that's quite rare really.. Especially for an AU delivered car. Most were taken out.
-
That would make sense, from what I've seen I tend to come across many cars of the same colour (originally) and very close chassis numbers over here. So it's likely they were built to similar spec in batch form and even shipped to the same destination in batches also. Going back to those production numbers, Chris mentions it in the original thread, but it doesn't mention NZ and I know they got 2 in the 9XX range in 1971. Also HS30 00012 I believe was a Papua New Guinea car from new apparently. HS30 00016 has had an interesting history also as it was an Australian new car (I believe) then when to NZ or Norfolk Island for a while before returning to Australia. I could only guess at this stage that maybe some of the dealer demo cars are not counted, but that doesn't seem logical either. Or it could just reflect gaps in Nissan's own records where these numbers were taken from? Who knows.. really. So to clarify no Fairlady 240Z-L's were made in GP Maroon? I did see such a car, but it must have had a repaint I'm guessing? With regard to popularity of the 240ZG's I guess the number of tribute cars running around is testament to that.
